True to its name the latest release from Norway's In Vain has puzzling layers for you to consider. At its surface it might give the impression that it is simplistic in its richly melodic approach, as it carries the listener along with ease. Yet there is something which lies beneath which speaks of ambitious scope. A strong progressive undercurrent is at work which keeps Ænigma's accessibility afloat.

Some of the vocals on tracks such as Image of Time resemble that of one of Bokrnagar's vocalists, great album so far \m/

Actually Lazare who'se the keyboardist in Borknagar (and usually have some vocal lines / songs he sings) is doing guest vocals on this record too, in Image of Time for instance.
Also Lazare's Solefald bandmate Cornelius Jakhelln is also doing some guest vocals... and I'm a pretty big Solefald fan, so that's great for me at least
I'm liking this record, even though it's not really my style, let's see how well it stands the test of time, I've been digging it three days straight at least.

Good stuff, yet far from the awesomeness from "The Latter Rain" and "Mantra". Maybe with more listens it'll get better.

I can't believe people saying that Mantra is better than this! Ænigma is better than The Latter Rain and much better than Mantra.

I love this album. My favorite release of the year so far. We'll see if Summoning can knock it off the top of the heap. I give it a 9.

This album kills. Reminds me a lot of In Mourning and a little bit of Be'lakor. Subtly complex.

Awesome sounds! I can't stop listening to this release. Their musical evolution from "The Latter Rain" is noticeable very well!

This album confuses me so much!!! the first 5 tracks are glorious, times of yore is completely out of place, and the three last tracks are ok. i'd give it a 9 but the second half of the album just sounds like filler to me :/ so much potential
