Never heard of this band until now and i got to say this is awesome.

I also think that the vocals are over the top on this one. A shame.

I don't think it's bad, it's just over the top and could be much better. Bilateral was way better.

Alright, this is one album that has taken FOREVER for me to make my mind up about...
Simply put, this is an incredible release (and possibly my AOTY) and just proves that Leprous can really change it up without falling in quality.

I do personally believe that Bilateral was a little bit better (being the masterpiece that it is,) but this one actually beats out Tall Poppy Syndrome easily for me.

If this is a sign of Leprous' consistency as a band (I mean, three top-tier albums in a row is one HECK of an impressive feat...) then I'm really looking forward to whatever these guys have next in store.

I just love getting lost in this album, this is an incredible effort.

By the way - was I the only one who thought "Opeth" in the beginning of Salt's second verse? (cubes of marvel)

Yeah, superb album. I think that Einar is highly influenced by A-Ha's singer's ( Morten Harket) style. Specially this dong reminds me a lot to this band. Which is good to me!

Excellent album!

With The Congregation being my introduction to this band I've been giving their older records a listen. This is quite the awesome piece of work. I especially love the drumming, being a drummer myself. Admittedly the vocals did take some time to grow on me. This group is full of amazing talent. Favorite tracks: Coal, The Valley, Echo.

This is a tough one to rate. I wanted to give it a 9 but then that would put it at the same level as the previous 2 albums (both of which are strong 9s for me).

8.5/10 leaning VERY slightly towards an 8.

This is where the band starts losing the uniqueness and high quality from the previous 2, mainly from "Bilateral". I like about "Coal" the dark heavy mood, something like "Train Of Thought" by Dream Theater or Nevermore but some tracks are not good. My favorite track is "The Valley", one of their best songs followed by "Chronic" which has some really nice instrumental parts.

I've been listening to this album obsessively for three days now. For some stupid reason I'd never paid any attention to Leprous before. I love this, even though I totally get the "vocals don't gel with the rest" comments.

As time goes on, I feel this more and more as well

I always felt this was their best album, and now I discover they're doing a special 10 year anniversary Coal show near me... I haven't really cared about this band in a bit but that got my attention.

They're doing this set at the pre-show event for Damnation Festival in November, would've been the swayer for me buying a ticket if I hadn't already got one

Yep it's in Manchester - the main festival is on the 4th, and they've previously done a pre-show on the Friday before with a couple of special full-album sets (the time I went before, it was 4 bands - Akercocke doing Goat Of Mendes, Svalbard doing their 2020 album, etc.), but this year it's effectively a second day to the festival - just look at these special sets!. I just have to hope none of Leprous, Enslaved or Bossk clash

And yes, very lucky dates there if Groningen's easy to get to for you! I reckon they might not get Ihsahn, just cos it's only 2 nights, but you never know

Damn those are some cool sets indeed. For your sake I really hope there aren't any clashes, but it's gonna be tough to arrange a proper timetable there...


Groningen is a reasonable ~1 hour train ride away.

I'm so glad I moved to The Netherlands just in time to witness Opeth play their 30th anniversary show and now Leprous play this show. I never felt like I got these kinds of special shows in Belgium or Ireland, unless the bands were from those countries. (I'm still sad that I never got to see Primordial in Dublin thanks to Covid...)
