I am hoping very much that this will be not another squeaky clean produced modern death metal album.

As long as the other musical traits remains, production really isn't much to complain about.

Good shiz, but I think this one will get a little bit of negative reception from Metal Storm nonetheless. At many points, I felt like this was Gorguts TRYING to be Gorguts, and it felt a bit more calculated than a typical Gorguts album.

That being said, it appealed to me greatly and I think it is a fantastic record. Enemies of Compassion and Ember's Voice are the two tracks that stood out for me.

Really nice album. My main complaint is that it opens much stronger than it closes, and I tend to prefer the opposite. Actually the opening track is my favorite on the album. Better than FWTH, very pleased.

Le toit opened up like the album gonna be fantastic. It is, but wasn't that much blown away as the first song sounded like.

Thinking man's death metal with a lot of melodic complexity. My favorite record thus far in 2013.

How many more top-notch albums like this are going to be released this year?

But seriously, "Colored sands" is extremely good indeed. The band may have a considerably large gap between each of their albums but at least every time they make up for those long periods of wait. As for the album itself, I personally think the first half outshines the second-but not by that much. I mean, the one thing that annoys me a bit is that fact that 'Absconders' is a bit too long (although I know that Gorguts like to experiment, and they usually do that considerably well), yet that doesn't exactly lower the quality that the previous seven songs had produced. Personal favourites for me are the outstanding title track, 'Le toit du monde' and the nice classical interlude that is 'The battle of Chamdo'. This album is going to be loved by many for years to come, that's for sure.

First half was fantastic, second half was ok. Pretty disappointed the second half wasn't as good, because this was shaping up to be one of the best I've heard this year. I found the first half to be a little more experimental with odd stuff going on, whereas the second half was a little more just tech death with some wankery. I'll give it time, but it is a little disappointing. First half was like a 9, second half was a 6.5 / 7.

A good part of their sound is, well, their sound. Luckily they're not idiots and the production brings out the best of their music.

Gorguts make their music so weird that it becomes ridiculous. I like to listen to music that actually resembles songs. Gorguts create random assemblies of riffs and drum fills that are supposed to be songs, but they aren't. I listened to "Colored Sands" a few times when the album leaked, and now, when it's out, I revisited it on spotify just to see if my initial impression was correct. It was.

Yeah Gorguts are strange but I wouldn't say that they're so alien that the songs don't sound like songs. I can understand people not liking the dissonance however.

they indeed still are songs, with a head and a tail.
