Wow, I'm surprised at how little attention this is getting.

Are you? I've only listened to about three songs but they seemed like pretty average death metal tracks, nothing to write home about.

It's about the same quality as the previous one, and look at how much attention that one's got.

I think Macabre Eternal got a lot of attention but that's because it was a comeback album alongside the EP they released around the same time. Since then I feel like the hype surrounding their re-emergence has waned, and understandably so.

A lot of albums beat Severed Survival, one being the album that came immediately after.

The Headless Ritual, you mean?

The Headless Ritual, you mean?

No, that was their last album prior to this. I meant their comeback album from 2011, which launched Autopsy back into the same kind of realm popularity-wise as Cannibal Corpse. Autopsy are becoming less relevant with every subsequent release as the initial excitement over their hiatus subsides.

I think by now Autopsy fans and the majority of death metal fans know better than to expect something that will ever surpass either Severed Survival or Mental Funeral. They do their job well but ultimately these recent releases are nothing more than stripped down derivative versions of their two most highly regarded albums.

Knowing how much you emphasize the new school is almost always better than the old school, however, that's something you won't agree with. It really shouldn't come as a surprise that this album went even further under the radar than its predecessor though.

Personally I thought The Headless Ritual was just as good as their two classic albums. In fact, I think I've listened to Headless Ritual a lot more.

Haven't heard this one yet.
