I absolutely adored their debut EP, but the sound on this is just too far from it for me not to consider it a bit of a disappointment. It's good for what it is though.

I'd still recommend giving this a go. I'm almost certain you'd find it a notch above this album, even if you don't especially like it. Much nicer sound (not as harsh), a few Blut aus Nord-y clean and bendy guitar moments as well and on the whole much better songs.

It's a nice little EP. I like the slightly psychedelic feel to it and decent use of melody, rather than this one which is pretty much straight up harsh sounding black metal with little variation.

It's practically packed with melody, but not the kind of melody you get with the more cliche black metal bands (or atmo-black bands). It's really intricately designed to have a sort of puzzling atmosphere (indeed a bit psychedelic at times). Also, the mini-guitar solo at about 5:30 in the youtube version sounds quite jazz influenced (at least in terms of the scale and timing of the guitarist). Also the production on the EP is pretty damn perfect. It's really a fucking shame that this album couldn't live up to that quality

Yeah, no idea what went wrong. Presumably they wanted it to sound like this which is a little beyond me.

It seriously sounds like they scrapped everything that made that EP great. I guess it's cool that they tried a different direction, it's just not cool that it's boring

Well it already was a painting from 1894 called The Treasures of Satan. Plus I don't think Morbid Angel heard of Hexenhaus so I doubt that they deliberatly copied them

Given the stylistic disparity between the two it's not surprising that some will love the EP and others the full length. I guess that just means we can all hope they do more experimenting in the future, and delve into different subgenres with each release

I have a feeling I made a mistake by listening to this first. It's pretty decent and has potential to grow on me, unlike so much of the bm I listened to this year.

This definitely was a grower for me. The music and the vocals were weird at first.

The examples from the update from the comment section are ridiculous. Not to mention all of that guy's artworks are horrendous, regardless of plagiarism.

Went for this after Marcel posted his 2014 list. Still not sure what i don't like about it. To me, the band doesn't have a good command of ideas they are wiling to use.
Their debut EP was indeed way better than this one, but still wouldn't place it among the best things that this sort of BM has to offer.

Their debut EP was indeed way better than this one, but still wouldn't place it among the best things that this sort of BM has to offer.

This one is a total step or two up from their demo (which you call e.p.) which was run of the mill heard it a gazillion times before black metal. Here they at least have a lot of atmosphere which was totally lacking on their demo. Plus it has a totally organic flow to it which makes one go back to it and not play it on shuffle.

Btw I am not the only one who regards this one as one of the top albums of the year. Just look around and you'll see it pop up on many an end of year list.
