Here's a little something I wrote for the album while it was on my list:

Pounding death metal, proggy riffs, explosive tech death, soothing ambient and jazz interludes, goose bump-inducing post-metal, bi-polar vocals?yet somehow?refined into a cohesive style. Ostensibly impulsive, yet meticulous. Regrettably, this overt detail-orientation, combined with their whimsicality, causes the songwriting to suffer from frequent indulgence in technical progsturbation. Tracks 3 and 5, for example, are anticlimactic to a level whereupon the listener is obligated to feel frustrated. There's no question that these guys possess the chops required to craft a masterpiece, but such a feat would require more focus on the song progression rather than treating the constituent riffs as separate entities. On a more positive note, the outro to the closing track features a perfectly executed build-up that they should have extrapolated on throughout the album. Features long passages of atmospheric and ambient music - *points to the 1st and 9th track* - and fleeting leanings of melodeath and Meshuggah-like djent. Enslaved's Monumension rings a bell during some of the more intense moments in the album.

Yeah looking forward to these guy's sophomore. There's lots of amazing ideas but they don't quite bring it all together. Hopefully they're tighten their shit up and get a good production job to go with it.

Hmmm. Honestly, I think the only point that plays against them is the production. The songwriting itself is, to me, very good and full of fresh ideas. They just need a bit more polish here and there.

I agree for the most part, but I still think they need to reign the ideas in a little so they mean more in the context of a song, or a whole album. In it's current state it's just trying too much in one go for me. Basically lacks focus.

Hmmm yeah I can see that. the jumps in between genres is a bit too abrupt most of the time and some of the genre influences are so far appart that it makes the whole formula unstable. I mean... there were black metal sections and djent ones. That's pretty unstable. But they totally gain an A for daring from me.

Oh, and I can't get over how amazing that artwork is.

Ha yep. The potential here is immense.

I agree, I love the artwork. How you do digital, photoshop imagery effectively (for a change).
