Don't call it a comeback. They've been crushing us for years.

Ahab, now on their IVth album, continue their maritime theme as the masters of nautical funeral doom tell the story of the crew of The Boats Of Glenn Danzig. Sailors, adrift in two life boats, beginning their Long Way Back From Hell, a tale of Blood And Tears as they are attacked by pre-Lovecraftian beasts Not Of This World in an attempt to make it home to London.

Ahab are constantly evolving . Every album adds something new to their repertoire. In this (theoretically) confined genre Ahab always finds another way to surprise us, another direction towards which to push the genre. The Boats of the Glen Carrig might be the most brilliant facet of this gem that is Ahab.

Heard it once yesterday at the listening session in Stuttgart. First impression is extremely positive. Lots of variation. Great loads of clean vocals as well as great grunts by Daniel. Musically it went from funeral to sludge to wave to post punk

This album is one of this year's releases that have me twiddling my thumbs and tapping my foot in eager anticipation.
Also, seeing how grumpy and picky Marcel is, his preliminary assessment adds to the excitement

Got the promo yesterday and spun it a couple of times. Damn, what a great album. For now it sits just behind Call Of The Wretched Sea when it comes to favourite Ahab albums for me.

After The Giant I was excited to see what they would do next. I found The Giant to be good, albeit a little disappointing because I loved The Divinity Of Oceans so much.

They posted an "Overview" of all of the songs from this album on their Facebook page today. I actually got chills a couple of times when the certain songs would break out. If the album is half as good as what that Overview offered, it will be an absolute masterpiece. I cannot wait to hear the full thing.

May even have to order some more merch.

Ahab, Shape of Despair, Skepticism... This seems like the year of funeral doom indeed! Who shall hold the crowning jewel in the end? One thing is for sure, 2015 is kicking 2014's ass musically already.

As far as Ahab's past efforts go, I've enjoyed all 3 albums and have NOT found The Giant to be disappointing. From the teasers we've heard so far, I'm thoroughly anticipating another deep plunge into the maelstrom!

Beautiful audio magic that will enchant you with majestic heaviness... that's how I can describe it even stolen but good , really amazing one , I prefer heavier side of FD not softer side as Elysian Blaze

My thoughts exactly. I am captivated by this record. I remember checking out Ahab in the past and not liking their sound. This album is actually something I can digest. BTW this dudes growls are the best I've heard since Mikael Akerfeldt. Br00t4L!!!!

Those names were born from a date night with Ne Obliviscaris.

Perhaps if they were both heavily drugged. Even Ne Obliviscaris doesn't come up with such nonsensical song titles

I think Job is character in the story, The Thing That Made Search really bugs me though, the title I mean, song's great.

I think Job is character in the story.

Probably the biblical Job. The one that was tested by God, lost all his family, wealth and health, to see if he would lose faith as well.

Great stuff. Finally they return to their roots while not completely giving up on the style of their previous effort. I really like the new album. Even the unusual song "The Red Foam", which is a little fast and sudgy for an Ahab-song.

Not sure about the former, but the latter I'm sure is a reference to the Biblical Tale of Job (pronounced as "Jobe"), assuming you were reading it as job, as in work.

Yeah, I thought it was referring to work - which coincidentally is what I'm doing right now

It is indeed a reference to a person named Job (not sure if it is the biblical one though), as can be construed from the following parts of the lyrics to the song.

Quote:

Aye, it is with truth I say:
all fierce to avenge we were
As Job had fallen prey
This night was just a blur

and

Quote:

The bo'sun placed his hand with dread
Over the poor lad's heart
Job - so mangled an be-bled
And the boy moved not ever again

As to the first song title I remember talking to the drummer and vocalist about it being incorrect. They explained what they meant by it and it somehow made sense at the time (almost three months ago) but for the life of me I can't remember what their explanation was

Job is actually a minor character who gets killed in the book "The Boats Of The Glen Carrig"

So, nothing to do with the biblical Job. Job is quite a common man's names (at least here in The Netherlands)

Ah, that clarifies it. I didn't even realize that this album was based on a story that wasn't Moby Dick.
