With very seductive cover-art, Novembre released their third full length effort Classica with a sorted out production which was lacking in their previous releases. Everything seems to be going on on the album so it's very hard to categorize in which genre exactly the album falls into. Starting from serious intense riffing, death/doom growls and grunts to clean vocals, acoustic and melodious sections, each song is different in its own unique way. Even keyboards are also used by Carmelo Orlando who wrote most of the music for the album.

For some reason I can't enjoy this album a whole lot. Every time I listen to this it bores me to death and I want to listen to something else. The high rating here is baffling to me.

Ubiquitous "atmo/melo/death overrating-phenomenon".

Haha, indeed. It seems they can't make up their mind about what genre they want to play, because this stuff is all over the place. Someone recommended this to me for my death doom list, but I don't think this qualifies as death doom even though it has both death and doom in their sound. Maybe their other albums are better?

Try with "Dreams D'Azur" and " Novembrine Waltz" - a little more interesting. Maybe you'll not get bored (too quickly). But if you're looking for a really strong position to your dd list I recommend some of my favorites:

- Black Wreath - A Pyre Of Lost Dreams
- Morgion - Solinari
- Ophis - Stream Of Misery
- Evoken - A Caress Of The Void
- Remembrance - Fall, Obsidian Night
- (EchO) - Devoid Of Illusions
- Ataraxie - L Etre et La Nausee
- Esoteric - Metamorphogenesis
- Mar de Grises - Streams Inwards

Once more I invite to my album votes

Thanks for the suggestions, but Morgion, Ophis, Evoken and Mar de Grises are all already on the list, although not necessarily the albums you mention. I only add (melodic) death doom so no funeral doom. I see a couple of funeral doom bands between your suggestions. I'll check out the others.

Huh? I said: "(melodic) death doom", not "melodic death doom". It's extremely obvious to me that this either means "death doom" or "melodic death doom". Put simply, most albums in my list are either one of those two subgenres. Hell, even the list title says "(melodic)" and not "melodic".

Oh man. Follow this way of thinking you should delete Evoken (they operate in funeral landscapes), Ophis (from the funeral doom and doom/death area, with an emphasis on the latter) or e.g. Disembowelment (often credited with funeral doom (although this movement developed years later)). And what about Mar De Grises? Melodic/death/doom/funeral/post metal (yes, at moments definitely). Delete, becouse too expansively? In this way, you should delete probably most of the proposals in your list. Do you really think that it's possible synthetically separable death doom - funeral death doom - melodic death doom, without mix-up of these subgenres? If you can do that, then respect

I don't have Evoken on my list, because the albums that I've heard from them are too funeral doom. About Ophis: they might lean a bit towards funeral doom, but are mainly death doom, like you said. Disembowelment is a classic in the genre and therefore I will not delete it. I'm not entirely sure about Mar De Grises. Have to listen to them more to find out, but I suspect you're right about the genre tag.

But let me explain it a little better. Of course you're right I can't only have 100% death doom or melodic death doom albums in the list, because many of the albums there contain elements of funeral or gothic metal. However, those elements are then just elements and so are not a very big part of the music. When an album is clearly gothic doom (like albums from Draconian) or funeral doom (Thergothon for example), then I won't add it to the list, even though those albums also have death metal in them. I'm afraid I can't explain it much better than this, so I hope it's clear now.

This album was the one that did it for me. A huge part of my history listening to metal, I still find it perfect along with Novembrine Waltz.
Nostalgiaplatz is truly a classic..

For me, easily their best. It is their only album that doesnt have any dull moments. With all other Novembre albums I occasionally happen to pass out. Not in the sense that I actually fall asleep, but I kind of get distracted sometimes, in particular because of the often slightly boring vocals at what happen to be somewhat lengthy songs.
That is not the case with Classica. Great album. Hightlights: My starving bambina, Nostalgiaplatz.
