And so begins the next chapter. One band from Andorra has torn the fabric of space-time continuum to deliver another one-of-a-kind album. Persefone has undergone some lineup changes in recent years but the quality of musicianship hasn't been affected one bit.

The 33 second teaser to Persefone and Paul Masvidal is very promising.

And..... surprise surprise this is another great Persefone album. I don't quite think it tops Spiritual Migration or any of Persefone's earlier work, but this is probably the first Persefone album that I would qualify as "without filler". Very consistent through and through, which is a great accomplishment given the length of the album. Superb musicianship. I was super impressed with the rapid changes in No Faced Mindless and the flow of the title track. I'm also pleased to confirm that the Paul Masvidal moments avoided cheesiness, in my opinion. Overall, this album easily earns a high 8 from me but I would not be surprised if progressive circles acclaimed this to be an album of the year candidate.

Might need more time to get used to it. As it stands, I like it a lot, but I do find it a step down from Spiritual Migration - I feel like the music on that album is simply more memorable, and on this one perhaps there's a tendency to 'over-prog' it. However, the best moments are still fantastic, and I imagine I'll warm to it (hopefully) as I get more familiar with it

Solid album through out! Persefone is proving to be one of the best new bands in the genre. Not their best work, but a low 9 for me.

Same feel as the previous album. Great music, but the awful clean vocal pisses me off.

I think it could be a very good album, but it has some annoying parts that definetely take away the great mood and atmosphere

Definitely their most mature work, but not necessarily their best. Solid and about on par with the last album. Something about it though doesn't make me want to listen to it more than once or twice.

Prefer SM, but this album is still really fantastic. These guys have consistently released high quality progressive MDM and this is no exception. The four part self-titled track absolutely SHREDS

Yes, clean vocal pisses me off too...but this album is really a let-down compared to the previous excellent release, both are totally different !

As far as I remember every single one of their albums was good or decent music that was completely brought down by horrendous vocals, both clean and harsh. Probably hasn't changed much, so I won't bother with this album.

I love that the band is always changing their style in order to "keep up" with the evolution of the extreme metal scene, the djent and post-metal being HUGE influences on this album
BUT, i didn't get used to this album... it seems that they lost their punch, both spiritual migration and shin-ken were so much heavier, i miss it ):
maybe a bit of over-progging or they just wanted to make a more melodic-focused album

It's 2019, i just realized i bought the new album from Persefone and listened to it maybe twice, so for the past week i listened to it several times, and i simply cant like it, the clean vocals don't fit, i have to agree with the others they they over-prog
It's a shame, i really wanted to like it but i just can't, i might end up just deleting it from my hard disk and forgetting about it

Holy balls, Merethe Soltvedt is just fantastic. I'd heard her sing before with Two Steps From Hell, but they didn't showcase her talent as much as this did.

Edit: Just decided this gets a 10. I suspected it might go in this direction as early as my second listen, and now much later I can confirm my suspicions were true. Everything, and I mean everything, on this album works perfectly. Every moment is enjoyable, and it is a journey unlike many others. There are mind-blowing moments of technicality, beauty, and straight up songwriting genius. The recurring keyboard melody (it sounds quite eastern) is just icing on the cake.

I also love Spiritual Migration and Metanoia, but this album is just something else. Discovery of the year (funny since I didn't really pay attention to this band; listened to a few songs and thought it was average).

This is now my #5 all time favourite album. This also marks my tenth 10, which I think is a good milestone for my metal-listening, especially when my more refined taste is fairly fresh still.
