"Please welcome Crematory."

This is how the Germans begin their 14th studio album, a release that has had more media coverage than any other in their entire career, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

Since Revolution this band didn't release anything special. Even AC/DC has a more diverse late discography than Crematory. The album has a few good moments (Salvation, Immortal) only because of the catchy melodies, the rest is the same sh!t heard 1000 times already. The drumming sounds like a drum machine instead of a real drummer. Anyway, I don't like to bash musicians, so I'll stop here.

I've been a Crematory fan off and on over the better part of 13 years or so. In 2015, they lost the main thing they had going for them- Mattias Hechler:
1. He doesn't look inbred (which is apparently rare in this band)
2. He can actually sing
3. He brought a little bit of mainstream appeal to an otherwise very niche type of music

Yes, there have always been things to cringe through- and almost of them were Felix's Cookie Monster vocals. What made it worth listening to were catchy choruses, exciting (if unoriginal) riffs, good orchestral or synthesizer arrangements, and Mattias' vocals. Now that he's gone, I'm afraid not enough left for me to redeem this group. The one thing you can say for the new guy is he fits in perfectly. He's just as ridiculous as the rest of them.

As for this album, it's difficult for me to evaluate musically because there is so much I can't get past. Crematory, want to sell more albums? Want to get higher attendance at your shows? Find Mattias and pay him whatever he wants to come back and restore normalcy to this freak show.

Crematory have their best time long behind them. I like their stuff from "Illusions" to "Pray", but the last albums from "Antiserum" to "Oblivion" are warmed up songs & melodies without heart. Boring, we have heard this all already from them, but much better. Toothless & listless, routine. Especially the german songs sound so embarrassing. I am german, and this sounds so corny in german. Some nice melodies here and there on this album, you can hear, that they do this job since many years, but they become weaker and weaker with every new album. The heart of the earlier stuff is disappeared. Time to bury the band, sounds all like made only for earn money...
