Is it extreme experi-metal? Blackened prog-doom? Gothic post-death? Yes, and/or no, to each one. Kayo Dot crank up both amps and accessibility, and call it “avant-garde doom”, while their music stands up with pants down, mooning categories conventional and convoluted alike.

Have no idea what to expect given the ever-changing direction this band has.
Edit: nevermind, they have a song up already. Sounds promising and not too far from Coffins on Io.

This is fucking fantastic, and the fact an album like this can be rated in the 7s while just another ordinary melodeath album is ranked #1 on the metalstorm charts right now only serves to remind me that not everyone appreciates the same things I do and that is OK.

Their most metal release to date, and probably the best one since Hubardo

Not ordinary. Best in the genre by far and arguably the best they've ever done and you have to remember this site worships Be'lakor, from their very beginnings and the band has acknowledged so. Their ratings will be bloated because of this (including mine, I am a fan boy). No need to step on their fans and supporters. Toby Driver has gotten a lot of press here. From MotW to Vaura to Kayo Dot. I can't wait to listen to this.

If I was stepping on anyone, it was the people that are rating this album so low. I only bring up the Be'lakor album because it's the #1 ranked record currently, and best made my point (which I was making toward myself as much as anyone) that there's no reason to worry about how other people review something that you love. It was a sort of tongue-in-cheek dig at myself for being annoyed when something I love isn't universally praised (would I even want that anyway?)

It's totally cool if you love the new Be'lakor, and I'm sure you won't enjoy it any less (and why would you?) because someone like me disagrees that it's the best in the genre.

But you had to go out of your way to point out that Be'lakor is number 1 on the site and call it ordinary in a Kayo Dot thread. Don't know what that has to do with it. I agree with you, this album needs more attention, and will most likely get it once it's reviewed.
