Haunted seems to be an appropriate way to describe this. Utterly dense, unnerving and swirling death metal the likes of which you probably have never heard. (Kudos to Alex Lemon for this great find).
If I were to describe this in one word... it would be eerie.. or ominous.. or something like that. Goddamn this is good
Yeah that would be the best way to describe it. It's hard to find death metal like this, in all the songs, deep down in the mix, there are constant layers of weirdness of some sort. I love how dense it all is.

There are definitely layers a'plenty, it's like the world's biggest cake. The ambient tracks mix in so well with everything else going on, especially the vocals (which might be the highlight of the album for me) even tracks like Hierophant Disposal Facility manage to keep me pulled, just listening to everything going on.
Fuck it, giving this a 9. It's flaws are minimal and the amount I've listened to this album exceeds most of the other albums from this year
If I had the know-how, I'd strip away the rest of the music on this record and see exactly what they do sound like. Of course that's part of the beauty of the mix here that you can never quite grasp anything completely.
When I first listened I honestly thought I had 2 songs playing
You'd be amazed how often I accidentally have a song on YouTube and Spotify playing at the same time and not realise. And usually after I do realise and turn one off I usually think it sounded better with both playing
I actually had a chance to listen to this on headphones whilst walking last night and the layers are much easier to distinguish. The production really is first rate (if you dig this approach anyway).
This honestly what I like in an album, extremely long songs, ominous overtones, slow doom metal sound with a death metal singer and also pretty good to drink too

Wouldn't really call it doom metal. Sure, it sounds heavy as hell and it has some slow passages but it's still very much death metal, just the "doomy" kind.

Written by Guest on 21.05.2014 at 14:47 It feels...so preternatural.
I think that's the point.

God, I'd love to know where those samples in Anno Mortii are from. I'm fairly certain the line "This is how we ruin the world?" is from Cube, but I have no idea where "They're all here; everyone has died... everyone who's responsible" is from.
Am I the only one who thinks that the last song feels out of place? It's one of my favourites but the feeling is rather different from the rest of the album (almost feels like another band playing).

Pretty sure if you stripped away the metal on this album (or at least Pendulum) it would sound like something very similar to this.
I am more than sure that "Crematorium Angelicum" is the best song ever written by Matron. Is it just me or it sounds like Evoken meets Darkspace but in death metal dressing?
