Artillery showed us a new face with 2013's Legions, a clean, traditional heavy metal sound rather different from what the band had been known for. 2016's Penalty By Perception undertook a harsher course correction, driving back into thrash. The Face Of Fear splits the difference.

My impression of Artillery has always been something like this: "riff-riff-riffety-riff-shred-riff-riffety-riff." I am pleased to note that, while Artillery are no longer attempting to write every badass riff in existence, Legions well upholds the outstanding image I gleaned from Terror Squad years ago. These veteran thrashers have returned triumphantly once more, rejuvenated and ready to wreak havoc.

Artillery is one of those classic second/third-tier 80's thrash bands that took the better part of nearly two decades off ('99's B.A.C.K. is their only release between 1990 and 2009), before re-launching with the thrash-revival movement...
