Biography
ATTICA RAGE formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2003 by Ayrshire brothers Richie Rage and Jonny Parr with Big C. The line-up was completed in 2007 by Stephen Bell. They are gaining wide-spread recognition and word-of-mouth reputation for their powerful live shows across the UK and Europe. Attica Rage are currently recording their second full-length album and will be touring extensively following its release.
Following an early demo in 2004 and their 2005 In Concert with the Mirror EP, it was October 2008 that saw the release of self-financed debut album Ruin Nation on the band's own DIY label Vanduara Records. The 11-track LP was produced by Big C, mastered by Ace of Skunk Anansie and features artwork designed by iconic Motörhead sleeve artist Joe Petagno. The track Dark City (With a bonus cover of Motörhead's Overkill) was released as a download-only single in May 2009, charting at No.1 on the TuneTribe Metal Charts and No.2 on the TuneTribe Download Charts. A promo video directed by Rodger Griffiths accompanied the single release. Ruin Nation was an 'Album of the Month' in Music News Scotland and Metal Hammer magazine. The track Attica Rising was also featued on the Metal Hammer 'Razor Presents?' covermount CD with the November 2009 issue, alongside new tracks from Slayer, KISS & Atreyu.
A growing reputation and loyal fan-base has been built with their energetic live performances at club-shows, tours and festivals. Attica Rage have toured with Die Apokayptischen Reiter and supported British metal icons Saxon, Diamond Head and Blitzkrieg as well as Armored Saint (with Anthrax vocalist John Bush), Betzefer, Voodoo Six and Mark E Smith & The Fall. Festival appearances include Download Festival 2009 (Faith No More, Slipknot, Def Leppard) at the legendary Donington Park, England for the Boardie BBQ party; Metalcamp 2008, Slovenia (In Flames, Apocalyptica, Ministry, Arch Enemy) on the second stage and Metalcamp 2009 (Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Testament, Down) where they were invited back to open the main stage. Attica Rage have also shared festival bills with Black Label Society, Sepultura, Thin Lizzy, DevilDriver, Five Finger Death Punch, W.A.S.P, Queensryche, Opeth, Monster Magnet, Wolf, Grand Magus, Skindred amongst others.
A recent success story has evolved with their appearances at the Hard Rock Hell and Hammerfest UK festivals, starting off with their debut on the Young Blood stage at Hard Rock Hell II, Wales in December 2008. A triumphant performance and record crowd turnout opening the 2nd stage at the inaugural Hammerfest followed in April 2009. They also performed an acoustic set on the Jagermeister outdoor truck stage. The band returned to Hard Rock Hell III in December 2009 to perform not one, but three sets over three days - opening the VIP Party Night on stage 2; performing in an on-site chalet apartment for a competition-winner and an impromptu appearance filling in for an absent band on the 3rd stage. Attica Rage signed to HRH Management with John Davis now officially representing the band. Topping the fans' wish-lists on the festival online forums, the band returned to Hammerfest II in March 2010 to open the main stage for Suicidal Tendencies, Iced Earth, Sabaton, Skindred & Orange Goblin. Attica Rage flew out to Ibiza in June 2010 to take part in the first HRH Roadtrip week-long festival event (Skindred, The Quireboys, Wold, Grand Magus, Battlelore, Alestorm & more). They will return to Hard Rock Hell IV in December 2010 with Helloween, Saxon, Skid Row, Blaze Bayley, UFO, Paul Di'Anno, Diamond Head and more and are one of the first five bands to be announced for Hammerfest III in March 2011, alongside Biohazard, Municial Waste, Mutant and Revoker.
With an ever-increasing fan-base at home and overseas and growing support from the rock press, media & industry, this is the start of a new, exciting chapter in Attica Rage history. But whatever happens - it's always all about the riffs, the songs, the live shows, the lifestyle and above all.... Pure unadulterated hard n' heavy rock n roll!
