01. Hold The Heathen Hammer High

Music & lyrics by Heri Joensen
Heathen heart
Pagan pride
Faring far
Sword by Side

Tribal times
Northern nights
Hidden high
Runic rites I was told

Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high

Hold the heathen hammer high with a battle cry
For the pagan past I live and one day
will die
Hold the heathen hammer high, never turn away
Ever true unto your
forefathers stalwart stay

Hold the Heathen Hammer high with a battle
cry
For the pagan past I live and one day will die
Hold the heathen hammer
high, never turn away
Down the wayward way so far faring strangers
stray

Hold the heathen hammer high

Weather wild
Blackened blade
Angry eyes
Ruthless raid

Heathen heart
Pagan pride
Faring far
Sword by Side
hard and cold

Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high

Hold the heathen hammer high with a
battle cry
For the pagan past I live and one day will die
Hold the heathen
hammer high, never turn away
Ever true unto your forefathers stalwart
stay

Hold the Heathen Hammer high with a battle cry
For the pagan past I
live and one day will die
Hold the heathen hammer high, never turn away
Down
the wayward way so far faring strangers stray

Hold the heathen hammer
high

From a pagan past that only the heathen hold
From the far end of the
world and of times untold
I bring message to your mids of the ways of
old
Ways reluctantly abandoned if truth be told

Ways abandoned for a
scavenger of our souls
Living on malicious lies, hiding in the holes
Cruel
and credible as any our tale of trolls
Hold the heathen hammer highest of all
your goals

Hold the heathen hammer high with a battle cry
For the pagan
past I live and one day will die
Hold the heathen hammer high, never turn
away
Ever true unto your forefathers stalwart stay

Hold the Heathen Hammer
high with a battle cry
For the pagan past I live and one day will die
Hold the heathen hammer high,
never turn away
Down the wayward way so far faring
strangers stray

Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high
Hold the heathen hammer high

02. Tróndur í Gøtu

Music by Faroese Traditional Melody, Arr. Heri Joensen
Lyrics by Faroese Traditional Text, Heri Joensen
Omaneftir of niðaneftir
Omaneftir vallaratúni
Har fór hestur mín tann brúni
Omaneftir vallaratúni

Tróndur droymdi dreymarnar
Segði teir ei for mørgum
Tókti mær sum noregs kongur
Stýrdi grimum vørgum

Tróndur droymdi dreymarnar
Segði teir ikki smærri
Tókti mær sum siglitrø
Tey gingu fjøllum hæri

Svarði sjúrður tollaksson:
"Vær gevum ei slíkt í geyma,
Verturnáttin er so long.
At mangt kann bera í dreyma."

Brandi brá og mælti svá:
"Hilmar undan leypa.
Eg skal standa eftir ein
Lív mítt dyrt akt keypa."

Omaneftir og niðaneftir
Omaneftir vallaratúni
Har fór hestur mín tann brúni
Omaneftir vallaratúni.

Translation:
Up and down
Up the wanderer's yard
There went my horse, the brown one
Down the wanderer's yard.

Tróndur dreamt the dreams
Said them not to many:
"Methought that the king of Norway
Steered grim wargs."

Tróndur dreamt the dreams
Said them not to many:
"Methought that masts
stood higher than mountains."

Answered Sjúrder Tollaksson:
"We heed not such things.
The winternight is so long,
That many things may come to dreams."

Swung his sword and spoke thus:
"Chieftans run away.
I shall remain alone
My life dearly bought."

Up and down
Up the wanderer's yard
There went my horse, the brown one
Down the wanderer's yard.

03. Into The Storm

Music by Heri Joensen, Faroese and Norwegian Traditional Melodies
Lyrics by Heri Joensen
Much may change in the life of a man
Now I will sing of how the war first began
How these dark days of doom became mine
It was the year Nine Hundred And Ninety Nine

When pagan poets speak of heathen heroes

Holding high the old way
Warriors waging
Into the storm
On wings of dragons
Fame and fortune
Into the storm
Into the storm
Into the storm

From the old land in east we had word
Of how the Earl had fallen and then we heard
That he dies he who dare disobey
When this new king imposes the eastern way

When pagan poets speak of heathen heroes

A storm has begun by my magic command
And my runes in the sand will deny them land
You may die on our feet or you live on our knees
When the raven is fed time will come for peace

When pagan poets speak of heathen heroes

04. Northern Gate

Music & lyrics by Heri Joensen
So we feast tonight at Northern Gate
We have won the wars of late
Hold your head up high tonight
Have another horn

Even though we won the war today
They will find another way
Don't give up without a fight
Take what give the norn

I see ships on the horizon bleak
I know whom they come to seek
They will find I'm not alone
They won't come at ease

Maybe leaving them alive was wrong
Even though they were so young
So I reap as I have sown
Not a moments peace

Show your swords
Drive them down
Hold my hoards
Give no ground
Show your swords

05. Turið Torkilsdóttir

Music by Faroese Traditional, Heri Joensen
Lyrics by Heri Joensen
Vatnið rennur av høgum fjøllum
Og eftir hvøssum gróti
So ilt er at leggja ást við hann
Ið onga leggur ímóti.

Dagurin líður, náttin kemur
Dimmir á jørð so frída
Í morgin saðlum hestar dyst at ríða.

"Tað er so vánt í tínum landi
Tí har er veður og vindur
Nógv betri er í Noregs fjøllum
Tú astir við meg bindur."

Fylgdi hon honum so langt á leið
Til gøtur tóku at skilja
"Tað, ið eg vendi aftur frá tar
Tað er ei við mín vilja."

Turið situr í Noregs fjøllum
Hon vekir harm og pínu
So møðig fellut hon blóðig tár
Á báðar armar sínar.

Dagurin líður, náttin kemur
Dimmir á jørð so frída
Í morgin saðlum hestar dyst at ríða.

Translation:
The water runs of high mountains
And along sharp rocks
So Painful it is to love him
Who doesn't love you back.

The days go by, the night comes
Darkness falls on fair ground
Tomorrow let us saddle the horses for a race.

"Your land is so unpleasant
For there is bad weather and wind.
Much better is it in the mountains of Norway
To stay here in love with me."

She followed him so far on his way
Until paths went separate ways.
"When I turn away from you now
It is against my will."

Turið sits in the mountains of Norway
She invokes harm and pain
So mournful she fells bloody tears
Down both her arms.

The days go by, the night comes
Darkness falls on fair ground
Tomorrow let us saddle the horses for a race.

06. By The Sword In My Hand

Music by Heri Joensen, Swedish/Finnish Traditional Melody
Lyrics by Heri Joensen
A boy gone astray, deceived by a god
Remembers the day, bereft of his blood
Might to your dismay now equal we meet
Self righteous repay, you kneel by my feet, I stand

By the sword in my hand
I will conquer the land
I will decimate and decapitate
Those who question the sword in my hand

I seek what you took, I promise you'll pay
By hook or by crook, a boy gone astray I stand

By the sword in my hand
I will conquer the land
I will decimate and decapitate
Those who question the sword, I stand
By the sword in my hand
I will conquer the land
I will decimate and decapitate
Those who question the sword in my hand

I hold the final truth of all eternity
Happens to include my own superiority
Mischief of the past has come to seal your destiny
Kneel before me now or I will have your head for heresy

07. Ride

Music by Heri Joensen, Faroese and Irish Traditional Melodies
Lyrics by Heri Joensen
Northern wind, hail and thunder, blackened sky
All my mind like seagulls soaring high
All these eastern ways lock our minds in darkened halls
Ride to fight it now my chieftain calls

There's a fire in his eye
As he holds his hungry sword into the sky

We ride for the battle, my brothers by my side
We fight, we were still standing by the morning light
They died, well at least those who didn't run to hide
We ride for the borough where mead and wenches bide
We ride, we ride

Lesser men hope for freedom when they die
Home is where the heathen banners fly
And this eastern king laughs at us in darkened halls
Ride to fight him now your chieftain calls
There's a fire in his eye
As he holds his hungry sword into the sky

We ride for the battle, my brothers by my side
We fight, we were still standing by the morning light
They died, well at least those who didn't run to hide
We ride for the borough where mead and wenches bide
We ride, we ride
We ride for the battle, my brothers by my side
We fight, we were still standing by the morning light
They died, well at least those who didn't run to hide
We ride for the borough where mead and wenches bide
We ride, we ride

08. Hear The Heathen Call

Music & lyrics by Heri Joensen
Many a thing may change during all the days
A mighty man wanders free on this earth
Kinsmen young may fall by the bitter blade
When he heard is when he laid down his life

Borne on his shield, his sword lying on his chest
The Northern Gate they passed through
They marched on to the eastern mound where they laid him down
Crying rain and wailing wind in the mountains we all

Hear the heathen call
Time will take us all
And hear the heathen cry
Finally we die

So hear the heathen call
Time will take us all
And only time will tell
Time will bid us all farewell

All knew our greatest times had come to an end
We proudly carved a memorial stone
There to stand alone through the ages long
Lasting onto later times of the world

Many a thing may change during all the days
A mighty man wanders free on this earth
Kinsmen young may fall by the bitter blade
Crying rain and wailing wind in the mountains we all

Hear the heathen call
Time will take us all
And hear the heathen cry
Finally we die

So hear the heathen call
Time will take us all
And only time will tell
Time will bid us all farewell

09. By The Light Of The Northern Star

Music by Heri Joensen, Faroese and Norwegian Traditional Melodies
Lyrics by Heri Joensen
In the mass grave of mythology lie the legends of the past
Discarded superstitions,
Although once held high both in honour and in awe

Now they have fallen too far to rise, and closed their eyes
The time and the tide

From yearning years of want on to dark days of wane
We have walked by the light of the northern star
From frozen fjords of rime out to swift seas of raid
We have sailed by the light of the northern star
The northern night has never seen
The southern cross shine bright
Across the colder seas under rain ridden skies
We go on by the light of the northern star
May the mighty Mjølnir nail the bleeding
And naked Nazarene upon the pagan planks
Pound in the painful nails now and hang him high and dry

Or have we fallen too far to rise and closed our eyes
The time and the tide

Have we fallen too far to rise and closed our eyes
The time and the tide
