Miseration - Sophomore Album In The Works

Christian Älvestam from Swedish Death metallers Miseration has checked in as follows: "We are set to enter the Panic-Room studios late June, once again with producer Tomas "Plec" Johansson at the helm, to record the follow-up to our debut album "Your Demons - Their Angels". The new album, entitled "The Mirroring Shadow", will most likely include eight to ten songs of hard-hitting, non-compromising death metal. It will once again be released through Lifeforce Records, later this year!

In the meantime, we will embark on a mini-tour in May, throughout Europe, alongside our good friends in Inevitable End (who recently released their debut album "The Severed Inception", through Relapse Records) and with an appearance at Legacy Festival on May 23rd in Dessau, Germany."

Alice In Chains - Complete Mixing New Album

Alice In Chains have posted the following band update on their MySpace:

"As most of you who have been paying attention have already figured out, the new Alice In Chains album is finally complete. We've been in the studio since October, and since it all began we celebrated 6 major holidays, elected a new President of the United States, crowned new World Series and Super Bowl champs, endured fires, earthquakes, & blackouts in and around Los Angeles, took a 2 1/2 week break to go to Australia, and to cap it all off, William & Jerry finally euthanized their beards.

This long, arduous process is complete, and although there's still a lot of work to be done, the songs are in the can and that's the most important thing. So what can I tell you when I look back on the last six months? I can tell you that the monotony of 12 to 16 hour days in the studio can be broken up by multiple costumes & hair styles, hours and hours of dice games, any sort of dialogue delivered in a heavily accentuated southern drawl, and a slew of special guests dropping by the studio.

Most of all I can tell you that some amazing songs were written and recorded. From the heaviest riff-dripping gut puncher to the most sadly beautiful song I think this band has ever recorded, I honestly believe that this album will return Alice In Chains to the top of the hard rock heap. So now the next few months are dedicated to things like album artwork, lining up interviews & press, shooting videos, planning tours, and figuring out whether to bury Jerry & William's beards at sea or donate them to science.

Hopefully these new songs will strike a chord and make a similar impact on all of you out there that were moved by this band in the first place. These songs have definitely done that with me, and frankly I'm getting pretty sick and tired of loving this stuff alone, so I can't wait for it to be released so it'll become your favorite record of 2009 and we can discuss it at the shows.

So clear a slot in your CD shelf and schedule maternity leave from work in September, because the long drought will be over soon."

Iced Earth - An Update From Jon Schaffer

Jon Schaffer and IcedEarth.com got together on March 13, 2009 for an update on the band's forthcoming live DVD as well Jon's plans for the immediate future. The interview was posted a few days ago already, and here are the main talking points of the interview are outlined below, while the audio interview can be downloaded here (mp3 format, 8.4 MB).

Regarding the immediate plans for Iced Earth:

"Well, right now I'm wrapping up the post-production for the, "Festivals Of The Wicked" DVD which I expect will come out late Summer or Fall of this year. I don't know that for sure, it depends on when we wrap things up, but that's the plan. That's the next project.

Iced Earth is going to be taking some downtime. I've been very, very busy. I haven't taken any kind of vacation in six years and I have been non-stop Iced Earth for three-and-a-half years - from the beginning of the writing of both of these records through the recording, the touring - and there has been a lot of touring... it's just time. I need to step back from it a little bit. And I've got other things planned for this year which I'll be announcing in due course, but my goals are for right now are to get the DVD finished and (then) to get away completely - no cell phones, no e-mail, no contact with the outside world, just me and my family at a very nice isolated place, no music business, no nothing, and it's going to be awesome. That's going to be cool and I plan to come back completely recharged and ready to kill."

Regarding the kind of projects Jon will be working on after returning from vacation:

"You're going to have to wait and find out my man. I mean, I'm just not ready to divulge yet. I've got a few irons in the fire and some things I'm very excited about. Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and I have planned late in 2009 to get together to do Demons And Wizards stuff so that's going to be cool. We saw each other in Cologne (earlier this year) and made plans and I think it's realistic to say that there will be a third Demons And Wizards album probably mid- to late 2010. We're going to have two song writing sessions. We are committed to doing the bulk of this in-person. One of the things I felt like from the last Demons And Wizards album was that we had this window of opportunity where we had to get it done and we kind of let time dictate the schedule instead of our feelings and that was probably a mistake. I mean I'm proud of that record ("Touched by the Crimson King" 2005) and it sold killer and it's a good album but I think Hansi and I are capable of a lot more especially when we get back to the root reasons of why we did this thing together.

Axamenta - Reform To He Came From The Sun

Out of the ashes of what once was Axamenta, sprouts He Came From The Sun.

The leaving of Peter was a widespread phenomenon, but as you will have noticed, guitarist Sven Deckers left the band as well. Though his supporting the band will not end, he will be focusing on the graphical part of it all.

Sven comments: "During the past year or so, my motivation and interests were shifting more and more towards my other ongoing musical project, City Of Caesars, and I have decided after a very long period of doubt, th at I would make place for someone who is way more motivated to take on the musical aspect of the band. It's what they need, and what they deserve. I hope in this way, the finish line will be made, 'cause it is going to be f0xing CRAZY!"

The band is currently in search for a new guitarist.

A 3 minute teaser of the new sound and the new He Came From The Sun line-up can be found at http://www.hecamefromthesun.com.

Vomitory - New Album Artwork, Tracklist Revealed

Swedish death metallers Vomitory have completed work on their seventh album, entilted "Carnage Euphoria", for a May 11 European release via Metal Blade Records (May 8 in Germany). The artwork of the album can be viewed here.

Commented drummer Tobias Gustafsson: "Carnage Euphoria" was a bit harder album to record than our predecessor, but damn, it was worth it! We are ridiculously happy with how the album turned out in the end! Engineer/producer Rikard Löfgren of Leon Music Studios did once again a killer job to get what we wanted for this album, and then some. Compared to our previous albums, "Carnage Euphoria" is a lot wider, warmer and more natural sounding-wise. But still, "Carnage Euphoria" runs you over like a steamroller, just as expected. The true Vomitoryelements are all in there, but there are also some more mid-paced groovy stuff that adds diversity to this album like never before. Even some ore melodic hooks that won't go unnoticed. Songs like "The Ravenous Dead" and "Great Deceiver" add fresh slices of flesh to the Vomitory slab, while "Rage Of Honour" and "Possessed" are rotting chunks of the relentless death metal Vomitory is known for."

To celebrate Vomitory's 20th anniversary, a limited first edition of "Carnage Euphoria" will be available with a 90-minute bonus DVD. Titled "Dead & Drunk For 20 Years", the disc will contain footage spanning the band's entire career - from the very first Vomitory show in 1990 to shows in 2008. Also featured will be one previously unreleased song, "Putrefaction", performed live in 1990, live clips from different shows during the '90s with different lineups and drunk moments on the road and in the studio. "It's all material from our own private archives, so this exclusive DVD has a certain "Cliff 'Em All" vibe to it - for good and for bad," says Tobias. "I hope you will enjoy it. We certainly do!"

"Carnage Euphoria" tracklisting:

01. The Carnage Rages On
02. Serpents
03. A Lesson In Virulence
04. Ripe Cadavers
05. Rage Of Honour
06. The Ravenous Dead
07. Deadlock
08. Rebirth Of The Grotesque
09. Possessed
10. Great Deceiver

Blind Guardian - Eight New Songs Completed

Vocalist Hansi Kürsch announces:

"We have already accomplished eight new songs. What can I say about these songs? They rule, of course. You want a more precise description? Impossible. All I can say is that each and every song is 100% Blind Guardian, which naturally means there is a wild bunch of different things going on from time to time (always?).

According to atmospheres: we have everything from the more Nightfallish "Curse My Name," to the Scriptish "Wheel Of Time." In comparison to A Twist In The Myth the lyrical direction will be more on the fantasy side as you most probably can figure out by these titles. The song "Sacred" will give you an idea about the quality and the direction of the songs.

We have mixed modern elements with traditional ones throughout the whole songs. We may need two or three more tracks before we can call it a complete album, but being that far in the songwriting process we nevertheless have made first plans for a production start in September or October 2009.

Apart from songwriting we will be heavily engaged in preproduction activities and in playing festivals during the next months. As a majority of the new songs seem to demand a sort of "live" atmosphere, we consider it to be good idea breathing in some real "live" air before we will finally get lost in the "Twilight Hall studios" again.

In accordance to these events I can promise you some surprising songs (though most probably no new ones) and a nice stage set up. In total we are not going to play more than ten shows, I would think. I am sure they all will turn out to be a great blast and a unique experience for everyone joining us."
