Bestial Mockery - Bassist Dies, Band Calls It Quits

Swedish Black Metallers Bestial Mockery have posted the following message at their official website :

"After the departure from Hell's Metal Festival in Germany, the Bestial crew went to Sweden Rock Festival, where Bundy and Devilpig ended up in a fight. Due to Devilpig's high alcohol consummation, he ended up in a coma after the fight and two days later he was confirmed as dead and the doctors pulled the plug! His last wish was that 'Chainsaw Fucking Down the Church' would be played on bagpipe, this will not happen and... Bestial Mockery have now went down into the grave! There will still be several releases out in the coming year since much is recorded. But now you must fuck off!"

Bestial Mockery was :
Devilpig - Bass
Doomanfanger - Guitar
Master Motorsag - Vocals
Ted Bundy - Guitar
Warslaughter - Drums

Bestial Mockery's latest album "Gospel Of The Insane" was released this past January via Osmose Productions.

Immortal - Abbath Debuts New Project At Hole In The Sky Fest

'I', the new band of Immortal's mainman, debuted at Hole In The Sky festival, Bergen, Norway on August the 26th. In a pre-gig press conference, he commented, "After I put Immortal on ice, this came out exactly as I planned, better. If it (Between Two Worlds, the forthcoming CD due out this fall via Nuclear Blast) sells only two copies, that's OK. It was a success a long time ago. I could have done this by myself, but there's nothing like being in a band. This is NOT a solo project. This band wil be around a while, until my liver breaks. As Ace Frehley said, I'm back!"

Live, the band delivered a destructive set, including pyro, that already sees 'Warriors' and the title track as excellent live tunes. The entire album, minus one, was aired. No Immortal songs were performed.

Lordi - Mainman Earns His First One Million Euros

According to Oikotimes.com, Lordi mastermind Mr. Lordi has earned his first million euros (approximately $1.28 million), reports the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat. The group's "Hard Rock Hallelujah" single has been sold over 300,000 copies all across Europe. Meanwhile, Lordi's latest album, "The Arockalypse", spent 11 weeks at the top of the Finnish album chart and has shifted more than 70,000 units in Finland alone. In the rest of Europe, "The Arockalypse" is believed to have sold around 250,000 copies. On September 20, a new version of "The Arockalypse" will be released, including a special DVD featuring footage from the Eurovision Song Contest, which Lordi won in May.

There is also a lot of other Lordi merchandise on the market already, including books, clothes and comics, and soon there will be a softdrink called Lordi Cola. The drink is expected to be a huge success in Finland, where it is projected to sell over million bottles in the first year. Mr. Lordi will naturally collect his share of every bottle of Lordi Cola that is sold and he continues to receive royalties every time songs from "The Arockalypse" are played on the radio.

Manowar - Release Of "The Sons Of Odin" EP

Manowar will release their first-ever EP, entitled "The Sons of Odin", on the following dates:

October 6, 2006 (Germany)
October 9, 2006 (rest of Europe)
October 24, 2006 (USA)

The band's bassist, Joey DeMaio, said "we decided that just a single wasn't enough. We want to give our fans maximum value for minimum expense and the EP format is the best way to do that. It gives us the opportunity to cram tons of audio and video content into one package."

The EP will feature over 27 minutes of total playing time. Besides "The Sons of Odin" ? which features Manowar's patented, lion-hearted metal riffs mixed with arena-rock stomping grooves and orchestral arrangements ? the EP includes the title track from the upcoming Manowar full-length album, "Gods of War", an orchestral version of the new song "Odin" and live performances of "The Ascension" and "King of Kings" from the Earthshaker Fest 2005. A special Immortal Package digipak version will also feature a bonus DVD boasting 38 minutes of footage from the first-ever Manowar Fan Convention in 2005 and the band's rehearsal of "Heart of Steel" ? recorded in the Czech Republic with a full choir and orchestra ? as well as a video trailer for the upcoming "Live at Earthshaker Fest 2005" DVD. Finally, the DVD will also include a special audio section with 5.1 audio mixes of all 5 EP songs as well as a slide show of exclusive Manowar live shots and photos submitted by fans.

Behemoth - Drummer Twists Ankle; Band Cancels Festival Dates

Drummer Inferno of the Polish black metallers Behemoth has twisted his ankle, which has made him unable to walk. Shortly after he was transported to the hospital, the group's mainman, Nergal, issued the following statement:

"The accident happened right before we were about to take off to Belgium, to play at Vlamrock fest. His leg was put in plaster which makes him unable to walk. Fortunately, his ankle isn't broken, but he won't be able to perform for the coming weeks. We are pissed off but there's nothing we can do about it. Behemoth is known for NOT canceling any shows, but this shit went beyond our control. We wanna apologize to all the fans and festival organizers and promise to come back as soon as possible and make it all up to you the best we can!"

The affected dates are as follows:

Aug. 26 - Vlamrock Festival, Belgium
Sep. 09 - Precursors of Eternity, Austria

Behemoth is expected to begin work on the follow-up to 2004's "Demigod" later in the year. Nergal previously said about the new material to MetalEater.com, "It's fast; it's technical; it's fuckin' catchy; it's everything, you know. It's heavy, more like mid-tempo, slow songs. I can't say yet, but it's going to be a crazy record ? and hopefully the best one."

Def Leppard - 'We're Not A Heavy Metal Band'

Tom Lanham of InsideBayArea.com recently conducted an interview with Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

On developing a bad back as a teen, lifting boxes incorrectly in a steeltown factory:

"And once you've got one, as everybody who has a bad back knows, you've got it for life.

On once having to see 41 chiropractors in 43 days:

"Every single day except for two we had to get somebody in to fix me, because I was bent in half, I was crippled. And every time they'd fix me up, I'd get onstage and do a jump here, a twist or shimmy there, and pop! Out goes the back again. And that was when I got my first steroid injection."

"I was forever being injected with steroids, but I didn't realize what they did. They took the pain away, but they also make you balloon in weight."

"So now I'm officially getting back on track. I'm pain-and-steroid-free for the first time in several years, and it's good not to wake up crippled, or just forever wondering why your trousers don't fit anymore."

On the "Yeah!" 14-track set of covers:

"...I just thought it was a great idea, ever since I had David Bowie's 'Pinups' in my arsenal of albums. I thought 'What a great concept. He's showing me where he came from.' ...If you actually got to hear your favorite artist's version of ? say, with Bowie it was the Pretty Things, The Who and The Easybeats ? it just made sense. You could actually hear those original songs."

On being lumped in with New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands:

"Lumping us in with Iron Maiden was as ridiculous as lumping us in with Depeche Mode. And we've spent 20-odd years trying to tell the whole world that we're not a British heavy metal band. Now, if people finally hear the songs that influenced us, they might finally get the picture."

On unlocking a secret or two about rockdom in the three-decade process:

"It's all about maintenance. In this business, you have to fend off the aging years as best you can, and I now see that there are two ways of doing it: You can have all that steroid stuff pumped in and end up looking like a hot water bottle, or you can do what Mick Jagger did. Which is, be as wrinkly as he is ? but when he goes onstage people still go 'Holy s? ! How can he do that at his age?' Because he's looked after himself ? that's how.
