X Japan - Returning To The U.S. To Play At Coachella

X Japan will return to the U.S. to perform at the Coachella festival in California this year. The Japanese metallers haven't released an album in 20 years, but the band is currently working on a new album to drop in 2018 and also released their highly personal "We Are X" documentary to critical acclaim.

X Japan - Yoshiki To Undergo Emergency Surgery

Drummer Yoshiki of X Japan will undergo an emergency cervical artificial disc replacement surgery on Tuesday, May 16th in Los Angeles. As a result of Yoshiki's intense drumming style and the impact it has had on his physical health, he was diagnosed with cervical foraminal stenosis in July 2009, and then underwent a cervical laminectomy and a cervical foraminotomy.

X Japan - Guitarist Taken Ill, New Album Postponed

Japanese power metallers X Japan have been forced to put all current plans on hold after long-time guitarist Pata was hospitalised in Tokyo. According to management, he received treatment for colon diverticulitis and portal vein thrombosis. Consequently, X Japan's March 12th show at London's SSE Arena Wembley has been rescheduled for March 4th next year. Furthermore, the release of the band's as-yet untitled sixth album, originally slated for March 11th, will also be pushed back.

X Japan - To Premiere Documentary At Sundance

X Japan will premiere their documentary We Are X, at this year's Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. The documentary chronicles the rise of one of Japan's biggest rock exports - and keyboardist Yoshiki will perform with a string quartet at the Utah event's Sundance Festival Base Camp party on January 22nd, today. The documentary comes as the band prepares to release their first album in 20 years - which launches worldwide on the same day as their "#XDay" London SSE Wembley concert on March 12th.

X Japan/Loudness - Former Bassist Passed Away

Japanese rock musician and songwriter Taiji Sawada (ex-X Japan, ex-Loudness) passed away yesterday (July 17th) before noon at the intensive care unit in Saipan's Commonwealth Health Center.

Sawada, 45, was arrested last Monday by federal authorities "for interference with a flight attendant" due to an incident on a plane en route from Japan to Saipan. He was brought to CHC after he tried to kill himself on Thursday evening while detained at the Department of Corrections facility.

Sawada was supposed to appear in federal court for his detention hearing on Friday morning. Mark Hanson, Sawada's court-appointed defense attorney, declined to provide details on Friday, but said his client had a "good chance of getting out" and be released to a local family under pretrial release conditions.

It is not yet known if these instances are related to his death.

X Japan - New Single Later This Month

X Japan will be releasing a new single later this month titled Jade. The single will be released digitally on Tuesday, June 28th.

Jade is the first single from the X Japan's sixth studio album, due for a late 2011 release. A sample of the track can be heard here.

X Japan frontman Yoshiki commented: "This is a years-long dream of X Japan's, to release a record in the Americas and in Europe. Music is very powerful, and we believe it can help us bridge the gap between east and west. We hope that Jade will be the first step."
