Wacken Open Air - Post "Thank You" Statement

After the very successful 18th edition of the Wacken Open Air festival, the following message has been posted on the festival's official website:

"Dear Metalheadz!

The 18th W:O:A is now part of our history and this year again 3 positive factors about our cult festival will stay in our minds:

- the best audience worldwide
- brilliant bands with great performances
- the sun is from Northern Germany!

We'd like to thank you for your support because without YOU we would not be what we are:

One of the biggest Heavy Metal Festival worldwide!

Of course there have been problems this year because of the disastrous weather conditions whilst the assembling period, at the park- and campinggrounds as well as at the arrival which we will try to change next year. But altogether we all celebrated a brilliant Metal party.

Furthermore we'd like to take away your fear - W:O:A will not get any bigger... we're at the limit! We will advance the logistic (f.e. entrance and exit to the Party Stage, accessibility of the festival area, etc. Furthermore there'll still be the possibility to camp at your cars of course (that's part of the W:O:A feeling) though we have to reserve our rights - in case of catchy conditions like this year - to change it.

Of course if you have had any stress and problems because of the short termed changes concerning the weather conditions we'd like to apologize. We hope that you understand this situation because without these arrangements W:O:A 2007 could not have taken place.

Watch out for 2008: Wacken Open Air, Faster-Harder-Louder!
See you in Wacken - rain or shine!

Now enjoy reading and see you next time!

Yours,

W:O:A Team"

The message also extends to include all the details of the efforts to get the festival site into good condition after the bad weather:

"...5000 sqm fleece were laid out. 1500 tons of wooden chips have been spread on top of the fleece and the whole area was covered with 600 bales of straw. For the secure stand of our visitors on the festival area the basement has also been millinged and indued with heavy weight basement plates which are also used for tanks. To dry the camping grounds a helicopter flew over the camping grounds only in a height of 60 centimetres and blew the excess water away so that the areas were dry..."

To read the full statement, visit this location.

The official Metal Storm report for the festival is currently being worked on and should be on in the not-so-distant future, so keep your eyes out for it. Expect a good lengthy three page review with over one hundred pictures of the bands and the festival site itself.

Sonata Arctica - Part Ways With Guitarist, Announce Replacement

Finnish Power Metallers Sonata Arctica have issued the following update:

"As many already know, our guitarist Jani Liimatainen has been absent from the line-up this spring and summer. The reason was his messing around with his compulsory military/civil/prison duty, or rather, complete failure to take care of it.

This matter, and everything that goes with it, caused a split between Jani and the other band members. This split was impossible to mend without Jani's help and co-operation.

Therefore we would like to make known the following: During fall of '06 and spring of '07, Jani's personal matters and actions drove us to a situation where we had no option but to ask Jani to leave the band.

Jani was notified of this in May, and the separation was amicable. We wanted to give Jani the chance to get his life together before making this public, which is why we didn't make this announcement earlier. We wish Jani well on his chosen path.

"Show must go on", so, facing the facts, we hereby humbly announce that Elias Viljanen is from this day forward a full and official member of Sonata Arctica.Throughout this summer, on many occasions, Elias has shown himself to be able to fill the big boots Jani left behind.

We hope our friends and our fans understand that this was the only choice left for us to make so that our band could continue. Sonata Arctica has always been, and always will be, more than the sum of its parts. The band has become for us a way of life, a lifeline that simply can not be cut off.

A long "Unia" -tour lies in front of us. We extend Elias a warm welcome to the Sonata family, and we hope the fans will, too. Sonata Arctica is whole again."

Evergrey - Announce New Bass Player

This following text was posted at Evergrey's Blog:

"Our new bass-players name is Jari Kainulainen!

Some of you might know him as a former member of Stratovarius and we are extremely happy to have him in the band as we know he will improve our sound in a great way which he already proved when we rehearsed together.

Me and Henrik talked after the rehearsal and both said we had goosebumps and this coming from a a guy playing bass. Before it's always been like - hey whatever it's only bass - but now we really feel that Jari will bring our sound up to a new level .

We got along great and it of course also helps a lot that Jari is a very experienced player when it comes to playing live with his several world tours together with Stratovarius as proof.

This was one of the main things we were looking for in a bass-player except for the playing of course, so that we wouldn't end up with a person who after 100 gigs finds out that this was not what he was meant for, cause this is, wether you believe so or not, a very weird and demanding life that let's you experience the greatest things in the world as well as the sickest, most draining moments of utter insecurity - that of course immediately vanishes as soon as we get to play for you guys!

We are so much looking forward to the coming months of recording and playing and it honestly feels like a fresh start and an injection I think we needed.

I'm going to leave you with a few words from Jari himself.

All the best

' t

What can I say? When I heard that Evergrey was searching for a new bass player, I immediately contacted Tom to let him know that I was extremely interested!

Then they asked me to come and audition for them. I can't even start to explain how nervous I was!

But everything just matched, and sounded great! And before we knew it we were all shit faced and celebrating the Scandinavian way! See you on the gigs!

-Jari Kainulainen-"

Fairyland - Parts Ways With Four Members

The following message was posted by Philippe Giordana (keyboards) from French Symphonic Power Metal band Fairyland on the band's official website:

"Anthony, Vincent, Tom and Max have decided to leave Fairyland and go on with their own project. The reasons for their departure have not been clearly expressed, and the way they handled the whole business, with direct annoucement on Fairyland's forum prior to any kind of discussion with Intromental Management, Napalm Records, Marquee Avalon, Burrn! Corporation or even me, was not very professional. However, it is their decision and I wish them all the luck they will need to make their new project break through.

Regarding Fairyland, I am and have always been the song writer, also taking care of the lyrics and vocal lines, plus the concept behind my music. So there is no reason why I should stop doing so. The only point I need to think about is whether I will try and build a new line-up, or just stay by myself and use guest musicians from different horizons. that last solution is quite appealing, since it can bring a lot of diversity to Fairyland, plus it will mean I don't have to handle a line-up's personnal issues, which is really time consuming. I'll then be able to concentrate on the music only, and all will be best.

Meanwhile, stay tuned to get a whole bunch of informations about Fairyland's next releases.

Special thanks go to Intromental Management and Napalm Records, who have decided to keep their thrust in the project. Thanks to all those who brought me support these last 2 weeks, and thanks to all the fans everywhere. We will meet again..."

Pagan's Mind - Thorstein Aaby Dies Aged 36

On the front page of the official Pagan's Mind website, the following message reads:

"On the night of 24th of July, our dear friend Thorstein passed on.

After a long time of illness, things took a turn for the worse the last weeks.

Thorstein has been a respected member of the local musicenviroment since the mid-eighties, later nationwide and also outside ofnorwegian borders-all well deserved.

Well known for his skills with the guitar as well as his easy going personality - he was the kind of guy who got more and more friends for each gig he did.

Thorstein did two albums while he was in Pagan's Mind; "Infinity Divine" and "Celestial Entrance", and after parting with the band Thorstein quickly moved on and joined Smalltown Rockets.

Smalltown Rockets appeared on the norwegian KISS-tribute; "God's of Thunder", with the track "C'mon and Love Me".

The last couple of years Thorstein has handled the guitar-duties in the Mötley Crüe tribute-band Wild Side.
Wild Side also recorded some of their own material.

This is a sad, sad day and all our thoughts goes out to Ingvild and the rest of Thorsteins family, and also to his big network of friends and fans.

Rest in peace, dear friend.

We will always miss you, and we will never forget you."
