Poison The Well - Taking A Break For A While

Influential Post-Hardcore/Experimental Metalcore outfit Poison The Well have decided to go on an indefinite hiatus. The word from the band goes as follows:

"So, after twelve years of being a band, countless tours around the world and records being released, we have made the decision to take some time to explore other interests in our lives. We've all reached a point where we feel like we need to take a step back from the band and pursue other things. PTW has been an all encompassing, full time thing for such a long period that this isn't an easy thing to do. We want to thank everyone who has supported us in anyway, whether it be buying a record or a shirt, to the occasional robbery from time to time. Once again, thanks for everything and we couldn't have done any of this without you."

Devourment - Ink Deal With Relapse Records

Aw hell yeah, the Relapse Records roster just got even better now that they have US brutal death metal mongers Devourment in their ranks. Here's the official press release:

Devourment's calling card is absolute brutality, and their three previous albums and international touring and festival appearance have made them one of the more talked about bands in the worldwide death metal underground.

Devourment vocalist Mike Majewski commented on the signing: "We are extremely excited to be a part of the amazing Relapse roster! To be alongside the list of past and present Relapse bands that we hold in such high regard is truly an honor for us."

Devourment kick-off a headlining European tour in support of their 2009 release Unleash The Carnivore on August 12th. This tour will launch with a performance as part of Party.San Open Air (GER) and also includes stops at the Brutal Assault Festival (CZE), Mountains of Death Open Air (SUI), and Metal Mean Festival (BEL). Devourment has also just announced a four-week US tour alongside Cattle Decapitation.

Iron Maiden - New Video Online

Iron Maiden have premiered their new video for the opening track of the upcoming album The Final Frontier, to be released next month. The clip for "Satellite 15... The Final Frontier" is actually pretty cool, so check it at this location.

The video was produced by award-winning production company Darkside Animation Films. Darkside's creative team includes animators who've created effects for feature films including "Lost in Space", "Gladiator" and "Black Hawk Down". The script was written by the director of BBC Radio's "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", and the live action was co-ordinated and directed by Nick Scott Studios.

As well as working round the clock to turn out over three months of animation in eight weeks flat, the Darkside team developed entirely new technology to bring to life as never before Iron Maiden's mascot, Eddie, in his new alien incarnation. A total of 141 shots combined live action with integrated CGI as well as full 3D animation, resulting in a complete running time of five minutes - that's over seven thousand frames, taking up to half an hour to render each frame!

Intriguingly, some of the integral footage was shot at Rendlesham Forest in Southern England, which is associated with The Rendlesham Forest Incident due to a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights and alleged landing of a craft of unknown origin.

More news about the new album here.

Korn - Crop Circle Performance Online

Last Sunday, Korn performed an 80-minute concert inside a crop circle during a special North American broadcast on HDNet. The event is now available online and can be enjoyed at this location. The crop circle has featured in a series of viral videos posted online by the band and the concert is said to be inspired by the eerie atmosphere of Pink Floyd's legendary Live At Pompei gig.

Said frontman Jonathan Davis: "The setting and the mood took us into a totally new direction musically. We took the opportunity to stretch out and experiment with the performance. I don't think we'll ever be the same."

The concert promotes the arrival of Korn's ninth album, Korn III - Remember Who You Are, which comes out today (July 13th).

Cattle Decapitation - US Headlining Tour Dates

Cattle Decapitation are pleased to announce "The California Blood Tour".

Featuring bands mostly hailing from California, the tour will be headlined by Cattle Decapitation and sees Devourment (TX) rearing its ugly head plus searing acts such as Knights Of The Abyss, fellow San Diegans Burning The Masses and newcomers Son Of Aurelius. Select dates also feature Sacramento's Slaughterbox and San Diego's own purveyors of brutality, Condemned.

This will be Cattle Decapitation's final US tour for the Harvest Floor record, as the band will commence the writing of their 5th Metal Blade release at the end of the year.

Cattle Decapitation vocalist Travis Ryan had this to say about the tour: "We've had this idea for a tour that was mostly comprised of California bands for quite a while now. I don't know, there was just something about the term "California love" (popularized by 2Pac Shakur) that never quite sat right with us so we came up with something a little more fitting, considering the level of brutality that California has always had under its belt. From the seedy sewers in the big cities to the "Cowshwitz" communities of central CA to the inhospitable depravity of the dry desert, we decided it was time to show the rest of the US that CaliGOREnia is not just about hippies, silicone bodies and marijuana dispensaries (not that there's anything wrong with that, haha!)... This is California Blood!"

StarGazer - New Album Details, MP3 Available

Australian avant-garde occult death metal band StarGazer have finally completed work on their much-anticipated full-length album, A Great Work Of Ages, the first StarGazer full-length in five years. The album will be released late August.

Following 2005's The Scream That Tore The Sky - the band's debut album - StarGazer), along with their like-minded comrades Portal, had already built quite a reputation within the Australian underground metal scene since their formation towards the end of 1994 and had already manifested themselves as one of the most potent forces within the Australian metal underground.

And just like Portal, StarGazer (in which said members are also involved with bands such as Mournful Congregation, Cauldron Black Ram, and were even a part of Portal's line-up for Outre) have crafted themselves out to be one of the most unique death metal bands today (musically and lyrically). Amongst a series of demos, EP's, splits, and compilations (surrounding their Scream That Tore The Sky release), StarGazer create an intimidating breed of avant-death metal which comes across as chaotic mix of classic '80s thrash ala Coroner and Voivod blended with the aesthetic power of Morbid Angel, the blackthrash virulence of Absu, and who also incorporate the more progressive edge of death metal reminiscent of Testimony Of The Ancients era Pestilence, Atheist and Sadus.

Overall, A Great Work Of Ages is complex, very progressive, and ultimately psychedelic, yet technically proficient and masterfully crafted where an immense unholy atmosphere creates vortex-like chaos unparalleled through violent waves of sonic magick.

A Great Work Of Ages cover art] tracklist:

01. Red Antlered Radiant
02. Passing Stone - Into The Greater Sun MP3]
03. Pypes of Psychosomatis
04. Refractive Convex Continuum
05. Chase For The Serpentsong
06. The Morbid Slither, The Sinner Slough
07. Hue-Man-King
08. Formless Face of the Timeless Faceless
