Imperial Vengeance - Recording Sophomore Album

British extreme metal act Imperial Vengeance have entered the studio to begin recording of their second album, due for release later this year via Transcend Records. The album promises to be a nightmarish tapestry of opiate Victoriana and Kafkaesque atmospheres. Ms. Lori Lewis, the acclaimed soprano with Therion, Aesma Daeva joined the band the studio this weekend for the recording of "The Black Heart of Empire"; bringing her voice to a double slice of IV intrigue - "The Devil in The Detail" and "Veiled Threats Over Cocktails".

The band had the following to say: "Having someone that comes primarily from a classical background, but additionally works in the Metal industry, rather than it being the other way around, was the priority. Both of the new tracks are specifically rooted in specific styles of singing and given Lori's extensive history with such entities as Minnesota Orchestra, The St Paul Chamber Orchestra, and VocalEssence, she understands the nuances and intricacies involved. It was amazing, she nailed the parts first time in virtually every take."

Preceding this album release, Imperial Vengeance are set to unleash a special edition DVD of director's cut videos and extensive exclusive extras on 12th July. This special edition disc features promo videos for the album track, "6th Airborne Division", shot at the 400 Company studios in London and their Madness cover, "Night Boat To Cairo" plus tons of special features including audio commentaries by C. Edward Alexander (aka Charles Hedger (Cradle Of Filth)) and David Bryan, unseen production photo galleries, behind the scenes footage - "A Gentlemans's Miscellany" and "The Cairo Cutaway" and exclusive footage from "The Harry Patch Recordings".

All info about the band and tour dates (with Sabbat in August) at MySpace.

Julie Christmas - Solo Album This Autumn

Brooklyn's Julie Christmas (Battle Of Mice, Made Out of Babies) has been mysteriously under the radar as of late. But far from disappearing, the emerging singer/songwriter has been busier than ever. Christmas is scheduled to release her first solo record, The Bad Wife, this fall. More details about the album are forthcoming, but "July 31st", a song from the pending release, is featured on the soundtrack for Paramount film, Wrong Turn at Tahoe, starring Harvey Keitel and Cuba Gooding Jr. A video to promote the album is in production.

"I use sounds to express feelings and ideas that I am too clumsy to get across with words alone," explains Christmas. "Working with amazing visual artists - people who speak in images - gets me one step closer to really communicating with anyone nuts enough to listen."

First noticed for her startling performances in NYC underground band Made Out of Babies, and her devastating vocals in Battle Of Mice, and super-group Spylacopa, Christmas has been busy expanding her repertoire. Currently, Christmas is collaborating with Nix Turner, renowned illustrator of worldwide counterculture icon, Emily the Strange, to create a book titled The Scribbles and Scrapes of Amy Anyone: (A Multiple Personality Autobiography). Christmas wrote the story and is working on music for the release of an accompanying CD, which features a tone signaling the reader to turn the page.

In addition, the singer recently worked on the soundtrack for a French indie film Le Debut, in which a young couple resorts to infanticide when faced with the challenges of poverty, depression and parenthood. Christmas's band, Made Out of Babies, is currently writing their fourth full-length album, scheduled to be released in the Spring of 2011. Live shows and exhibitions with visual artists are being arranged.

MetalStorm.net - Blocked In Iran

So... apparently MetalStorm.net has been blocked by Iranian authorities. As of Sunday, MS has been "filtered" and is no longer accessible in Iran. Yup, Metal Storm is officially too metal for Iran. Several of our Iranian users have reported though that, next to bypass software, the site is still available through https://www.metalstorm.net.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been filtering social network sites, like MySpace, Facebook, Last.fm, Twitter, Urkat for years now. But since last month authorities have started filtering blogs and websites related to Metal music. The infamous Metal Archives were the first to go down. But also most of the Persian language metal forums and blogs got filtered. Even the official Metallica website had to bite the dust.

Click the thumbnail to see a screenshot of how MS currently looks like in Iran. The text reads as follows: "In the name of Allah the Merciful, the Beneficent. According to internet violence rules, access to this website is denied."

When The Guardian reported about the intensified censorship following the commotion after the 2009 elections, the newspaper wrote that "internet censorship is both routine and highly developed in the Islamic Republic." Iran uses what the OpenNet Initiative calls "one of the most extensive technical filtering systems in the world", as all internet providers are required to go through state-controlled gateways.

According to Wikipedia - who have a surprisingly thorough article about internet censorship in Iran - every ISP must be approved by both the Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI) and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and must implement content-control software for websites and e-mail. ISP's face heavy penalties if they do not comply with the government filter lists.

In 2008, Iran has blocked access to more than five million Internet sites, whose content is mostly perceived as immoral and anti-social. In recent years, Internet service providers have been told to block access to political, human rights and women's sites and weblogs expressing dissent or deemed to be pornographic and anti-Islamic. The ban has also targeted such popular social networking sites as Facebook and YouTube, as well as news sites.

So yeah... Hail Satam, y'all!

Conspiracy - New Album Details

Dutch eclectic extreme Metal band Conspiracy returns with a brand new third full-length album entitled Irremediable.

Previously helmed solely by Carpathian Wolf (Lupus Karpatius in Latin) for the previous two full-length albums, the band currently also consists of German guitarist/composer/orchestrator Aryan Blaze to join the ranks of Conspiracy.

Carpathian Wolf (aka Al' Hazred, former member of Sumerian Black Metallers Melechesh) left Melechesh in 2008 to fully concentrate and focus on Conspiracy. Conspiracy's musical direction sees a more logical step towards the fulfillment and ideology of Carpathian Wolf himself.

Conspiracy head-honcho Carpathian Wolf comments: "This time Conspiracy doesn't just spit rage and hatred but presents the symphony of sinister entertainment for the chosen elite black metal consumer. The material on Irremediable ranges from Blackened Heavy Metal with melodic and harmonious guitar solos to Black Metal with unorthodox elements, which will pleasantly surprise even the most spoilt listeners."

"The cover art is based on the painting by the Belgian Satanist painter - Félicien Rops (1833-1898), which goes really fine with the dark poetry of Alister Crowley, Charles Baudelaire and some other classical masters."

"As an additional treat, some of the songs that are on Irremediable will feature pre-recorded drum performances by Dirk Verbeuren (Aborted, Soilwork, Scarve, etc) taken from "The Library Of The Extreme - Blasts & Fills" by Toontrack."

The official street release date for Irremediable will be announced at a later date.

Irremediable cover art] tracklist:

01. Nocturnal Hunters
02. Ouverture

Massive Slavery - Set To Release Debut

Maple Metal Records have signed Canadian death metal band Massive Slavery and will release their first album Global Enslavement on July 26th.

Massive Slavery hail from the towns of Val d'Or and Ryoun-Noranda, the gold-mining district in Northern Quebec. The province of Quebec, Canada has traditionally been a hot bed for great metal talent and now Massive Slavery can be added to that illustrious list.

Born from a concept conceived by bassist Marc-André Barrette (ex-Paroxysm) and guitarist Joël St-Amant (Descend into Nothingness), Massive Slavery was officially created in the winter of 2009.

Having previously worked with Joel in Descend into Nothingness, drummer Pierre-Alexandre Mercier (Decrepity) did not hesitate to join the crew. Even if the band were still looking for a frontman, they began to write and work on fresh material. After a couple of months of hunting around, their search was finally over when vocalist Jonathan St-Pierre landed the role, to round out this new quartet. His addition to the band gave new dynamics, and a boost of energy to push the band into finalizing the writing of their first album.

The collaboration of this musical assault Global Enslavement, combines a mix of melodic, brutal and technical death metal. The album was produced, realized and recorded by Yannick St-Amand (Despised Icon, Neuraxis, Beneath The Massacre), mixed and mastered by Pierre Remillard (Misery Index, Krisiun, Malevolent Creation).

"In these dark times when the future of humanity seems to be put in danger by individualistic and corrupt leaders, four musicians from Canada work on a musical plan aiming to reach the ranks of opposition, already well established in the middle of extreme metal. Like a wakeup call, their goal is to alert and open the eyes of our society, to reveal the sad and brutal reality, often unseen or denied by man. It's under this shadow of complete disillusion towards our civilization that Massive Slavery emerge from collective ignorance, in order to defend and promote an engaged movement of resistance, fighting against the manipulators of our system."

Global Enslavement cover art] tracklist:

01. MediAssassiNation
02. Shade of Corruption
03. Global Enslavement
04. The Denial of Man's Regression
05. Destroy, Rebuild, Repeat
06. A Cold Interlude
07. Wider We Open Our Eyes
08. Pull the Plug on Modern Civilization
09. Humanity's Last Hope
10. Generalized Cyberphobia

Atheist - Acoustic Solo Material Of Frontman Online

Kelly Schaefer, vocalist/guitarist of Atheist - who are in the middle of recording a new studio album - has issued the following update:

"After a year's worth of shredding and writing non-stop Atheist metal, in the last 10 weeks I wrote a bunch of tunes that are very far from metal. They are just sketches with friends, but for those with an open mind, I welcome you to check them out and your feedback is welcome. They are just demos, and mostly acoustic, don't bitch at me about it, haha.

I have plenty of metal for you all when this Atheist record hits, and recording starts July 5th, but for now something different. A calm before the storm perhaps.

Kelly Shaefer & Friends is the new site where I will post all of these new collabs with piano players, sax and cello players and all my friends who enjoy writing music of many different colors. I do plan on making an albums worth of material in 2012 that will be a "Kelly" record, and it will be all over the place style-wise."

Check out the songs at this location.

Manowar - Magic Circle Music's Dio Tribute Under Fire

Self-proclaimed kings of metal Manowar and Magic Circle Music - the company owned by bassist Joey DeMaio - find themselves in the middle of a media storm because of their Dio tribute album (read: cash grab).

It all started when Manowar and Magic Circle Entertainment decided to "honor one of metal's greatest legends with Magic - A Tribute to Ronnie James Dio, featuring Magic Circle Music artists and friends performing some of Dio's most inspired work."
Magic - A Tribute to Ronnie James Dio features a Manowar cover of "Heaven And Hell", while HolyHell covers "Holy Diver", with other performances of Metalforce, Jack Starr's Burning Starr, Feinstein and a thing called the "Magic Circle All Star Band" covering "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll".

According to a press release, the album - which will be released today in Germany - "is from the hearts of these musicians. It is not only their privilege, but also their duty, to honor Ronnie by singing his praises while singing his songs."

There was no word if any of the revenue generated from the sale of Magic - A Tribute to Ronnie James Dio would go to the Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Cancer Fund.

But - and here's where it gets sticky - ex-Elf guitarist, and a cousin of Dio, David "Rock" Feinstein responded to the release as follows: "I just found out that Magic Circle Music stated on their site that I was contributing a song to their proposed tribute album to Dio. It also states that I specifically wrote this song for Ronnie. This is totally UNTRUE! The song is called "Far Beyond" and was a cut on the Feinstein Third Wish album, released by Magic Circle Music (SPV) in 2004. The song was co-written by myself and John West eight years ago.

I am NOT a part of this Magic Circle tribute album, and will ONLY be a part of any tribute to Ronnie that is sanctioned by Niji Entertainment Group and Wendy Dio."

And then, Manowar director Neil Johnson issued the following statement defending the release, saying the criticism is fueled by jealousy. He stated: "I hope you all will enjoy it and please do not be influenced by some of jealousy and negativity being spread about this very heartfelt project, which I, along with many others who shall soon come forth, are very proud of. Magic Circle Music will be issuing a statement very soon but in the meantime let me personally express my feelings about it with some indisputable facts:

The Heretic - Drummer Passed Away

Xtreem Music has confirmed the death of The Heretic drummer Cristóbal Martínez. The Heretic are an underground Spanish symphonic black metal band, who recently regrouped after a small hiatus. Not so long ago the band released a comeback compilation album, called Memorandum (1997-2007). Cristóbal Martínez was one of the founders of the band back in 1995.

The emotional message from Xtreem Music goes as follows: "With big sorrow we must announce that on past 13th of June, our great friend, drummer and leader of the band The Heretic, Cristóbal, died in his flat due to a fortuitous home accident. It was yesterday, day 14th, when his flat-mate found his lifeless body and all his nearest people knew about this tragic event.

From Xtreem Music we're deeply affected by this loss, since Cristóbal wasn't only a great musician, but above all, a more than excellent person of great human quality that only left friends wherever he went. Anyone who had the pleasure of dealing personally with him, can only say good things about Cristóbal and for us, whose relationship dates since more than 13 years ago, it's a shock having lost such a great musician and comrade.

We want to give our deepest condolence to his family, friends and specially his brothers in The Heretic (Juan Carlos, Fernando, Javier & Raul) - a band thanks to which Cristóbal can be more than proud of being able to leave an indelible legacy of the highest quality through all their recordings and shows. Needless to say that the reunion show that the band were preparing for the next months where they would present their most recent release Memorandum (1997-2007), released just 2 months ago, won't take place and the future of the band remains more uncertain than ever.

The rest of members of the band are still very affected with this shocking loss, so they haven't been able to update their official website, but anyone who wish to leave their last words to Cristóbal, can do it at this location."
