Balfor - New Album Details

Ukraine Black Metallers Balfor has recently released the finalized artwork cover and album tracklisting of the group's debut effort entitled Barbaric Blood. The brooding yet introspect artwork cover and layout for Barbaric Blood was designed by Martin Saavedra at Uruguay's Spina Studio (Aborted, Dååth, Divinity, etc).

States Balfor frontman/guitarist Thorgeir: "It's always a long journey making an album, first it has to be written and rehearsed. Then it has to be recorded and mastered, and that's where most people think it ends. But it doesn't, quite end there. An important factor that everyone forgets about is the artwork, and yet this is often what people notice first. So we are particularly pleased that the artwork for "Barbaric Blood" has been so well executed by Martin of Spina Studio. He has captured both the concept behind the album, and the band itself."

Barbaric Blood was recorded at Blacklight Studio, Ukraine during August 2009, with the effort mixed and mastered by Shaddar. A further update on the official street release date for Barbaric Blood will be announced soon.

Barbaric Blood cover art] tracklist:

01. From The Ashes (...The Beginning)
02. Behold My Hate!
03. Shadow Of My Raven Wings
04. In A Thunder Of Ancient Glory
05. Pure Barbaric
06. Light's Demise
07. Kingdom's Blood
08. Voices Of Wilderness
09. The Perfect Fire

Destruction - Return To Nuclear Blast

Legendary Teutonic Thrashers Destruction have signed a new record deal with Nuclear Blast Records. Here are the obligatory press releases that come with such events.

Comments mainman Schmier: "Sometimes I really hate the business side of my job, we have been thru some very difficult decisions in the last couple of months. Now after some weeks of hard work, I can proudly announce that Destruction is back with Nuclear Blast Records. We really wanna thank AFM Records for the great co-operation in the last years. Cheers for supporting all our craziness, I know it wasn't always easy folks.

Going back to NB feels like coming back home now, working with old friends is one of the biggest achievements you can have in this music business known as a "shark tank". Almost eleven years ago, Markus Staiger and his label made it possible for Destruction to come back in a strong way, those were some of the best years the band ever had. Hopefully this will be the last label change of the band's career, we have returned to our home port again and it feels absolutely fantastic.

We are working on a fast & furious new album that will kick ass in January 2011. Expect the roughest piece of thrash you've heard from Destruction in many years!"

Added Nuclear Blast A&R manager Jaap Wagemaker: "We are very stoked to announce that legendary German thrashers Destruction will be re-joining the Nuclear family again. After a small stint with another label, the band around scene icon Schmier has made the decision to return to the their label home Nuclear Blast. Everybody knows that Nuclear Blast was the label that brought back the band with a bang with their comeback album All Hell Breaks Loose and the following tour they did with Kreator and Sodom. Hell Comes To Your Town! was a huge success for the band as well.

After releasing several more CD's and DVD's the band decided to try something new, but over the years we have stayed in contact with both Schmier and Mike. When the time was right, we decided to sit around the table and realized that the future of both Destruction and Nuclear Blast should be a path we should walk together, and so Destruction is back home.

At the moment Destruction are hard at work to seal this deal with their most thrash sounding album for a long time. The future belongs to Destruction - the mad butcher has returned!"

Shroud Eater - Free Download Of Debut EP

Shroud Eater, South Florida's DIY grunge/stoner rock trio, is offering a free download of their debut self-titled EP, in anticipation of the release of their debut full-length record, ThunderNoise, due out this autumn.

Inspired by all things dark and dirty, including 70's heavy metal, and 90's grunge/stoner rock, the three-song EP can be downloaded at this location.

"We had always seen the EP as a way to distribute our music for free to as many people as possible - it's a basic primer on who Shroud Eater is as a band, and hopefully it left people curious and interested in hearing what we can really bring to the table," states guitarist/vocalist Jeannie Saiz. "For the ThunderNoise sessions, we have some surprises up our sleeves, and are positive that the finished album will rock your ass off."

The EP was recorded last year at Relax, Bro! recording studio, in the band's hometown of Miami, and it was mixed and mastered by Jonathan Nunez. Artwork comes courtesy of Shroud Eater's own Jeannie Saiz.

The EP is also available for streaming on the band's official MySpace, while a music video (directed and edited by Alvarez Bros. Productions) for the record's opening track, "We Are Beasts", can be viewed at this location.

After Oblivion - New Album Almost Finished

Mixing and mastering will be done by Stephan Fimmers (Necrophagist) in his Aexxys-Art Studio and first free streaming tracks should be ready first week of July. Check MySpace for further updates.

The band states: "What you can except from Stamina is eight old school driven tech death metal songs, where not much place is left for experimenting and innovations, since death metal is perfect already." Illuminandi - New Songs Online

Polish symphonic folk metallers Illuminandi recently released their new album In Via. Two songs - "W Drodze" and "The Promise" - are now streaming on the band's MySpace, so go check them out. More album details below.

Official press release: "Having gained some recognition with their well-received EP Illumina Tenebras Meas, the seven-piece Polish metal act Illuminandi strikes back with their LP titled In Via . The album comprises 10 songs in which heavy guitar riffs are as prominent as haunting cello and violin melodies.

Although frequently labelled as "folk metal" or "gothic metal", the band's sound does not easily yield to boundaries. Even though Illuminandi appeals to most listeners of melodic metal, their music also contains elements of extreme metal, classical music, European folk music, progressive rock, early music and even hardcore.

The album features guest performances from members of Celtic music band Open Folk (Paweł Iwaszkiewicz - recorders, shawm) and Polish avant-garde folk band Żywiołak (Robert Jaworski - hurdy gurdy) as well as four different vocalists, which definitely adds to the albums diversity. The CD was mastered by Polish mastering legend Grzegorz Piwkowski. In Via was released on Ars Mundi on May 28 2010."

02. The Promise

Lullacry - Taking A Fresh Start

Last Friday lead guitarist Sami Vauhkonen issued the following update on the whereabouts of Finnish metal band Lullacry:

"It's been a while since the last update from the Lullacry camp. After a hard and complicated fourth album we took some time off. In 2008 we were ready to record some new material, with a new interesting record deal with quite a big german label. Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Moonspell, Apocalyptica etc.) was going to be the producer for that album.

But then suddenly just before the studio, without any warning we lost the connection to the label. After a couple of months I read from the newspapers that they went bankrupt. Fuck that.

Now when I look back, I can say that it was a blessing in disguise. Compared to the new songs, the older material was not as good. It wasn't the right time I guess...

Now it's a fresh new start. I've written some killer songs and I must say that a new era of Lullacry has begun! We are currently recording a couple of those songs and we'll put them online as soon as possible. Stay tuned and rock with Lullacry!"

The band's latest output, Vol. 4, dates back from 2005. Lullacry are set to play some new tracks live at Dante's Highlight in Helsinki, on Saturday 24 July. The band is currently looking for a label.

Dimmu Borgir - New Album Progress

Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir proudly announce their collaboration with Norwegian composer and Berklee College of Music summa cum laude alumnus Gaute Storaas in addition to the 51 members of KORK (the Norwegian Radio Orchestra) and the 38-member Schola Cantorum Choir for their as-yet-untitled new album. To date, over 101(!) musicians have lent their talents to the making of the album.

Composer Gaute Storaas shares some insight on what it's like to work with Dimmu Borgir: "There have been several attempts of dressing up rock bands in suits, bow ties, and symphonic splendor - to various degrees of success. Working with Dimmu Borgir is quite different. Their music is epic, thematic and symphonic already from the creation; they are clearly having an orchestral approach to composing. My role in this is sometimes just to transcribe their themes, sometimes to take their ideas, tear them apart and build them back up in ways that are true to the band's intentions. The music must also be both interesting and playable for the musicians, and hopefully, meet the quality standards of the orchestral world."

Dimmu Borgir's ninth studio album will be released in Germany on October 8th, in the rest of Europe on October 11th, and in North America on October 12th.
