Norwegian black metallers Den Saakaldte have recruited Anders Kobro, long time drummer with the legendary Carpathian Forest (but also known from his work for Green Carnation, In The Woods..., Blood Red Throne and Chain Collector) to their ranks to replace the departing Uruz. Jarle "Uruz" Byberg (ex-Urgehal, ex-Shining) left the band in November. The band recently inked a deal with Pulverised Records for the release of the second full-length album, Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete, due out in 2010, and new material is currently being prepared.

Avenged Sevenfold - Drummer Dead At 28

James Owen Sullivan, drummer and backup vocalist for Avenged Sevenfold, has been found dead at his home in Southern California, authorities have confirmed.

Police Lt. John Domingo said the 28-year-old Sullivan, who went by the stage name "The Rev", appears to have died of natural causes on Monday in Huntington Beach. Police were notified by firefighters who had responded to Sullivan's home about 1 p.m. The Orange County coroner's office is investigating the death.

Avenged Sevenfold formed in Huntington Beach in 1999 - Sullivan was a member from the beginning - and won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006. According to their MySpace page, the five-man metalcore band was working on their fifth album.

The band released the following statement expressing their sadness: "It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time. Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you."

In Flames - Come Clarity Best Swedish Album Of The Decade

Readers of the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet - one of the larger daily newspapers in the Nordic countries - have chosen In Flames' 2006 album Come Clarity as the best Swedish album of the past decade. In Flames got about a quarter of all votes, ending up as the only metal related band in the top 10. Four albums of Swedish rock band Kent appeared in the top 10 too. Top 10 results "Best Swedish Album Of The Decade" here.

Bruce Springsteen's 15th studio album Magic, released in 2007, was voted best album by a foreign (non-Swedish) artist, before Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park. See the top 10 here.

FOE - New Song Online

Polish metallers FOE will release their debut album Madness in January 2010, via Let Them Come Productions.

This Polish band, once known as Alkoholika, performs an old school death kind of metal with a touch of thrash and progressive elements. The sound of the album Madness can be described as raw. One of the tracks from the album, called "Cold", has already been added to the label's profile, and can be found at this location. A picture of how the cover artwork will look like can be seen here.

Icarus Witch - New Album Details

Official press release

The 3rd full length CD, from traditional metallers Icarus Witch mysteriously entitled, Draw Down The Moon, will be released February 9th, 2010 through Cleopatra Records/Koch Distribution. The band was recently described as having a "Heavy influence of Iron Maiden combined with good old fashioned hard/rock metal production and great musicianship" by Don Jamieson, host of VH1 Classic's That Metal Show. Perhaps this assessment helped land the boys the opening slot on original Maiden crooner, Paul DiAnno's first American tour in over 15 years, commencing this January 27 in NYC.

Britain's Metal Hammer magazine recently drafted Icarus Witch for both their cover mount compilation CD as well as an interview on their feature about the explosive rise of traditional metal with the younger generation of bands, referring to the Witch as "One of the best new bands to take up the NWOTM (New Wave of Traditional Metal) standard and carry it triumphantly into the future. With such accolades, the pressure is mounting for the group to top their previous efforts, a feat which has been handily accomplished by the creation of this new album, their first since 2007's critically acclaimed, Songs For The Lost.

With a few years of regional headline touring under their belt as well as supporting everyone from Heaven And Hell and Coheed & Cambria to 3 Inches Of Blood and Trouble on the road, the boys honed their live chops and discovered the formula for what translates to a frenzied crowd and what passages are better left for the headphones. The end result is a nine song battle cry called Draw Down The Moon which sees the band in a more mature, yet increasingly aggressive song writing mode, stripped of the extraneous bells and whistles of synths & samples.

This is a back-to-basics, classic metal album with a raw, in-your-face production (once again with Eric Klinger at the controls) that owes as much to '70s Marshall overdrive and gothic tales of yore, as it does the 80s flash and modern metal trappings that have become de rigueur in this burgeoning scene Icarus Witch is alleged to have helped establish. Apparently the time machine has been set to reverse, and once you dig your teeth into the muscular framework of this future occult rock classic, you will forget about eras, genre tags and hype, and realize what truly matters most... this band knows how to fucking ROCK!

Visceral Bleeding - Founding Member Leaves, Replacement Announced

Swedish Brutal Death metal outfit Visceral Bleeding have issued the following band update, telling about the departure of only original member Peter Persson, his replacement, a new album and the search for a lead guitarist (Martin Bermheden left last year to play for The Berzerker). Here's the full message:

"It's been way too long since we made any updates on what's happening in the Visceral Bleeding camp, we apologise for this, we know a lot of you've been wondering about what's going on.

First off, a message from Peter: "I have decided to leave Visceral Bleeding to pursue and focus on other challenges in life. There is not really that much to say about it, Visceral Bleeding took up all of our time for a lot years (10 fucking years to be exact) and we got to do some amazing tours and shows and meet great people all over Europe. But now it's time for me to focus on family and other personal stuff. Absolutely no hard feelings involved in this decision, I just feel I have other priorities in life and don't want to be a burden to the band.

I don't want to exclude any band, person or zine but I do want to mention bands that we really had some extra fun with and that's Prostitute Disfigurement, Psycroptic (or Psuckonmycockdick if you will), Spawn Of Possession, Deicide, Skinless and everyone at Massive Music booking! You guys really fucking rock! I'm glad I got to hang out with ya'll and get to know all you crazy drunks and I wish all of you the best of luck in the future. Same goes out to Ruud Lemmen at Neurotic Records, thanks for all the good times and for everything you have done for Visceral Bleeding! I'm glad I got to know you and Joel and the drunken twins. Chris at Retribute Records who was the one who gave us our first break and gave us the opportunity to release Remnants of Deprivation and thereby making everything else that we have done possible. Mankan at Pama studio and Robban at FlatPig studio who both pushed us to do our very best in the studio.

Most importantly, I wanna thank the rest of the guys in Visceral Bleeding for all the good times on and off the stage. I'm sure Tobbe, Pedro and Body will find new members to spread the Visceral Bleeding mayhem with. I know for a fact that Tobbe already has a couple of songs and a bunch of riffs in the works so keep your eyes and ears open! Ripping the disgusting vile flesh... Peter"

We're all very sad to see Peter go, things will definately not be the same without him in the band. We wish him the best of luck in the future and will remain close friends as he will always be involved in this band one way or another.

Shining - Drop Off Behemoth's Evangelia Amerika Tour

Swedish extreme metallers Shining have dropped off the upcoming "Evangelia Amerika" tour alongside Behemoth and Septicflesh, due to work visa issues. Lightning Swords Of Death, who had previously been added to three of the tour dates, will now be taking Shining's place for the duration of the tour.

Lightning Swords Of Death vocalist, Autarch, comments on the Behemoth dates: "Regarding our dates with Behemoth, attendees can expect to find themselves victim to the horror of true and agonizing ritual abuse. All of the bands on this lineup exemplify the epitome of their collective genres' strengths and will be a dark and impressive sight to behold."

Lightning Swords Of Death's Metal Blade Records debut album will rear its head sometime during the spring of 2010. In anticipation of this album's release, the band will be touring the western and southern US during March of 2010 with Kreator, Kataklysm, Evile and Lazarus A.D..

Misery Index - Preparing New Album

Original news, posted on 18.11.2009

Misery Index have issued the following update:

"We are happy to say the hibernation has paid off, and we have roughly 9 songs in preparation for the January recording of our 4th full length, to be recorded at Wrightway Studios in Baltimore, Maryland beginning January 2nd, 2010. These are the guys that mixed and mastered Traitors, so we are excited to do the entire project there this time around. We will have more details on that in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we are pleased to announce, at long last, our discography collection of splits and EPS, entitled Pulling Out The Nails (after the first song the band wrote). It will feature 30 tracks, and include ALL non-album material from 2001-2008, including the Overthrow and Dissent EP's, as well as the splits with Structure of Lies, Commit Suicide, Mumakil, and Bathtub Shitter, the Hang em' High 7", live tracks, bonus covers etc. The compilation was remastered by Scott Hull this year, and will be available in January on cd through our own Anarchos records imprint, and on double vinyl through Power It Up (Germany) soon after. This cd will also include an extensive 24 page booklet of details, notes, pictures, and an all-time list of all the shows we have performed. We hope its the final representation of the various incarnations of the band in the past 8 years. Til then, more news soon."

UPDATE

Baltimore, MD's Misery Index have spent their recent time away from the road writing for their follow-up album to 2008's Traitors. The band will begin recording in early January with engineer Steve Wright at Wright Way Studios (Dying Fetus, Slipknot, Mos Def). The album's tentative title is Heirs To Thievery and advance song titles include "Embracing Extinction", "Heirs To Thievery", "Fed To The Wolves", and "Sleeping Giants". A May 2010 release date is expected.

Misery Index's Jason Netherton commented on the album's lyrical theme via his Demockery blog: "The thread that binds several songs lyrically surrounds ideas of hidden history, how we interpret our nation, and our idea of who we are culturally and collectively, as it is generally handed down to us in terms of icons, wars, struggles and triumph."
