Intronaut - Band Update

Intronaut guitarist/vocalist Sacha Dunable has posted the following detailed blog regarding the band:

"So yeah, the new record is coming along. We are planning to be in the studio recording by April at the latest. We have about four and a half songs totally finished, and so far the material is completely blowing everything else we've done out of the water. I'm almost embarassed to have been a part of the last four releases knowing how great this one will be. You can check out a brief clip of us jamming on some new stuff here. Details on all that will be coming soon.

I supposed I could give you more of a detailed update on the band, too. We have all been busy with other musical projects in the past few months as well:

Drummer Danny Walker has been writing and recording with a grindcore band called Murder Construct, also featuring former Intronaut member Leon Del Muerte, Caleb from Bad Acid Trip, Kevin from Fetus Eaters, and Travis from Cattle Decapitation. He also just tracked drums for the new Bad Acid Trip record. As if all that wasn't keeping him busy enough, Uphill Battle has been rehearsing and will be getting back together for a few shows next year sometime.

Dave Timnick contributed drums to a song or two in a project with Justin Chancellor from Tool and a Polish guy named Peter. I'm a little afraid to try and describe the music, but it rules and kind of sounds like African techno with Polish lyrics. That's actually not at all what it sounds like. Forget I said anything. It rules though! We've also been talking with these two characters about collaborating on a new Intronaut song.

Joe lester is about to track bass for the new EP from our midwestern brothers Mouth Of The Architect. This will be the first time he's recorded with the band after doing more tours with them than any "permanent" bass player they've ever had. I personally can't wait to hear the new stuff!

I have been writing and recording songs with my friends from the band National Sunday Law. We'll announce more details on this as things come together, but we have about 25 minutes of music so far. I've also been jamming casually with my friends Dan Dismal (of LA death metal legends Crematorium) and Beau from The Copperthief on some stoner doom riffs we've been trying to piece together for almost ten years now. This might actually get serious enough to be recorded this year."

Apostle Of Solitude - New Album Almost Finished

US doom metal band Apostle Of Solitude are currently wrapping up the mastering of their sophomore album. According to a press release, Last Sunrise is a doom metal masterpiece that comes across as the heaviest and most emotionally driven material that Apostle Of Solitude have crafted. The Profound Lore version (Eyes Like Snow are releasing this in Europe) will include three exclusive hidden bonus tracks as well (these were recorded by The Gates Of Slumber/current Nachtmystium live drummer Bob Fouts). Them being "Streetside" (The Obsessed), "Mary And Child" (Born Against), and "Astro Zombies" (The Misfits).

The release date for the European version (and LP) is February 26th. The release date for the North American version is March 16th, although it will be available from the Profound Lore webstore at the end of February; same as the release date for the European version.

Ludicra - New Album Details

Profound Lore Records press release

One of the most respected metal bands in the Bay Area, Ludicra, have completed work on their anticipated follow-up to 2006's Fex Urbis Lex Orbis.

Entitled The Tenant, the new Ludicra album sees the five-piece at the height of their musical powers by delivering an album which incorporates all the best moments from Ludicra's illustrious back catalogue and incorporating a much deadlier metallic attack to the diverse sound canvas in which they harbor. With the black metal influenced blueprint Ludicra laid down with their elusive Hallow Psalms debut, along with incorporating a vicious punk vibe and adding tasteful splashes of neo-folk, the band took it to the next level with their Another Great Love Song follow-up. With Fex Urbis Lex Orbis, Ludicra had created their most progressive and musically complex album to date, an album that just recently landed in the #51 position in Decibel Magazine's special 100 Top Albums Of The Decade issue.

The Tenant, while being the most metal-sounding Ludicra album to date, is an album where all of Ludicra's influences culminate into an epic audial journey through a sprawling and harsh urban landscape, one in which its members have dwelled and roamed within during the band's decade long career. With their black metal influenced sound which initially cemented the basis of where Ludicra would expand their sound from, and that is still quite evident on The Tenant along with the neo-folk and experimental dabbling, Ludicra continue to take their progressive edge even further while at the same time, building upon their vision by taking it into more expansive ground.

Along with Ludicra's reputation as one of the best metal bands in the Bay Area, the reputation has its merits due to the band's ability to put on one of the most vicious live sets you'll ever witness from any metal band. This will be displayed in full force this spring, when Ludicra will be hitting the road in support of The Tenant. An announcement concerning an upcoming Ludicra tour shall be announced very soon once everything is finalized and once we've been given the go-ahead to do so.

The album will be released on March 3rd 2010.

The Tenant cover art] tracklist:

01. Stagnant Pond
02. A Larger Silence .mp3]
03. In Stable
04. The Undercaste
05. Clean White Void
06. Truth Won't Set You Free
07. The Tenant

Negură Bunget - Two Departed Members Start New Band

Prophecy Productions are proud to announce that Dordeduh, the new band of the former Negură Bunget core members Hupogrammos and Sol Faur has signed a long-term contract with Lupus Lounge / Prophecy.

Hupogrammos explains the philosophy behind the band: "Dordeduh aims to link the two words "dor" (English: yearning for something, missing something) and "duh" (English: spirit) to the significant values that make us humans, melting together the soul and the spirit. The way one aligns one's experiences with one's own soul, the way one relates to the Universe, the way one perceives and integrates, through Intention, the perpetually flowing Transcendence, that is what defines different levels of humanity in a person, that is what makes one Human."

Musically, Dordeduh will follow the path opened by Negură Bunget, but the musical act will open new perspectives as they will experiment with a new way of approaching black metal as well as using traditional instruments. Hupogrammos: "It is normal for musicians to evolve and develop with every album released, but our goal is to push forward this natural development and to make Dordeduh distinguishable from our musical past."

The first material released by Lupus Lounge / Prophecy will be a 7" EP with two songs stylistically quite different from each other, but both capable to provide an idea as to how the first Dordeduh first album (due to be released later in 2010) will sound like.

Dordeduh line-up:

Hupogrammos - guitars/vocals/keyboards/traditional instruments
Sol Faur - guitars/keyboards

Guest members:

Arioch (Negură Bunget, live Secrets Of The Moon) - bass
Thelemnar (Secrets Of The Moon, live The Vision Bleak) - drums/percussion
Sergio Ponti (ex-Illogicist, ex-Ephel Duath) - drums/percussion

Bucium - New Single Released, Recording New Album

Romanian folk-prog outfit Bucium just released a new single, called "Sus La Cheia Raiului" (English translation "High to the Heaven's Key") through the band's MySpace page. The song has the same pre-Christian foundation as the previous Christams single "The Stagg Carol" and as most of the band's songs.

The first Bucium album, called Voievozii, was launched in March 2008 by A&A Records (Warner Music) and is available on on-line stores such as Amazon, EMusic and iTunes. The band is now in the studio, for recording the second album, called Miorita (the name of an ancient Romanian myth). Songtitles to appear on the album are:

01. Miorita
02. Codrule, Maria Ta
03. Frunza Verde De Trei Flori
04. Frunza Verde Foi Marunte
05. Mirel Tinerelu'
06. Rai
07. Voinicel Instelat
08. Cand De-Acasa Am Plecat
09. La Marginea Codrului
10. Zorile

Bonus songs:
01. Cantecel De Asfintit
02. Mandra Mea Nu Ma Certa
03. Sus La Cheia Raiului

Most of the songs were written almost 8-10 years ago, but it's the first time they are properly recorded. The album itself is less metal, but more atmospheric-oriented than the predecessor, Voievozii. Bucium also has most of the songs ready for a third album, which will be recorded after the Miorita launch. Bucium is currently unsigned since the agreement with A&A Records was for only one album.

We chose "Fucking Hostile" because it's two and a half minutes of pure, raging metal. It's short, fast and brutal. There's some real intricate riffing parts in there. We'd jammed it before but we'd never sat down and analyzed it properly. I think we did a great job on it."

Dragged Into Sunlight - Sign To Prosthetic Records

Official press release

Prosthetic Records has signed the UK's Dragged Into Sunlight to a worldwide recording contract. This marks the first signing of a UK act for the label, which will re-release the UK-based band's album, Hatred For Mankind, in April, 2010. The album, recorded by Tom Dring and Billy Anderson (Eyehategod, Neurosis, Weedeater), was originally released in 2009 by Mordgrimm Records (Anaal Nathrakh, Covenant). The mysterious band, whose sound can be described as a mixture of black, death and doom metal, has shared the stage with acts such as Vader, Grief, Trap Them, Gama Bomb and Lazarus Blackstar.

The band, who appear masked in photos, play in near total darkness and smoke and do not publicize their individual names, commented about today's heavy music scene: "A few blastbeats, a scrawled logo and people accept it, regardless of the reality. Dragged Into Sunlight is a concept, we've taken the time to come up with our own understanding and presentation of what we want to see associated with extreme metal in 2009 and beyond."

Terrorizer chronicle Dragged Into Sunlight as "crushing, sweeping and just plain riffing," praising their "crusty blackened doom" and "delicious black majesty." Meanwhile, Metal Hammer distinguished their sound as "a torrent of seething riffs so caustically expansive, they feel as though they're about the burst out of your skin. It's also the sheer, pre-meditated malice that drives them on a systematic rite of destruction, whose domineering, scorched-Earth tactics leave no synapse or nerve-ending unscathed."

The band will be making its first trek to North America this spring in support of the re-release. Check out a culling of the gruesome beast at http://www.myspace.com/draggedintosunlight.
