Crimfall - Ink Deal With Spinefarm Records
Official press release
Crimfall has joined the ranks of Spinefarm Record label and the release date of the yet unnamed second album has been set to be March of 2011.
Crimfall merges many genres from folk to black metal and wraps it up with expression better known from the world of movies and their soundtracks. The band itself describes their new album to be more epic, grandiose, extreme and more dramatic than their debut piece. Upholding the chosen path from the previous work but leading the listener to new sceneries and seasons; as the debut album's themes were of fire and summer's swift ending this one takes us to the coldest winter and unto brace of war with its ruthless reality stripped from heroics and glory. The album also features many visitors well recognized from Finnish Folk Metal Scene.
Beginning as Jakke Viitala's one man project Crimfall took shape in the year of 2007 until Helena Haaparanta and Mikko Häkkinen enlisted to take care of vocalist responsibilities. The first album As The Path Unfolds... was done with session musicians but after the release in 2009 the line-up stabilized as Janne Jukarainen (drums) and Miska Sipiläinen (bass) were hired to be permanent members. The producing of the second album was financed by the band itself and although the process was indeed arduous and long the band claims their newborn outshines their previous work in every aspect.
Hannu Lehtonen from Spinefarm adds his comments: "It is great to have Crimfall as new artist in Spinefarm. I can honestly say that the bands forthcoming second album is worth the wait. The band is in killer shape and has recorded an excellent piece of music which will be released in spring 2011."
The members of Crimfall would like to announce:" For Crimfall this alliance is a great leap in what has been a long painful march. This definitely opens up a new chapter in our history and the expectations are high since it finally seems we have found a partner that shares our faith in Crimfall's music and potential."

"There's no drama involved in this line-up change. It's all about time issues. I hope very much succes and happines for you Tommi Kuri (bass), Joonas Pykälä-Aho (drums) and Emil Pohjalainen (guitars) in the future. You can meet the new line-up of Amberian Dawn on our music video "Arctica". These new guys have been around already before - Heikki Saari (Norther, Naildown) used to be our original drummer in 2006 and he played drums on the songs "River Of Tuoni" and "Evil Inside Me" on our debut album, River Of Tuoni. Bassist Jukka Koskinen (Norther, Wintersun, Cain's Offering) has already played one gig with us last summer at Tavastia Club. Woods Of Ypres - Sign With Earache Records
Official press release
Earache Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of the Canadian cult metal act, Woods Of Ypres.
Formed in 2002, Woods Of Ypres have earned critical acclaim for their ever-evolving, envelope-pushing mix of blackened doom metal. Most often compared to bands such as Agalloch and Type O Negative, Woods Of Ypres toe a thin line between the catchy, the artistic and the extreme to create an unmistakable signature sound.
With this signing comes controversy. As many may know, Woods Of Ypres had previously announced that they were disbanding so why would Earache sign a defunct act? Truth is, the band never really broke up to begin with. Let frontman, David Gold explain his side of things: "After 8 long years of pushing forward, recording five albums and going on multiple tours as an independent band, we are very proud to announce that we have finally signed Woods Of Ypres to Earache Records. To address the rumors (some that we ran with and some that we started ourselves), Woods Of Ypres never actually broke up/disbanded/quit/ended, at all. Allow me to explain.
We just released the massive Woods IV: The Green Album late last year (not even a year ago yet!), toured North America this past summer and then in August, we recorded our fifth album, Woods 5: You Were the Light. We've always been gluttons for pain and punishment in this band, and we've put ourselves through some hellishly busy years while keeping this band alive (not even considering all the side projects the guys and I have done during the same time!). Being the black and 'true doom' artists that we are, we simply couldn't resist the urge to take advantage of the opportunity to experiment with the drama and reaction to the news that we finally, unexpectedly and mysteriously decided to give up after all this time, after all that momentum, after coming this far.
Putting an end to Woods Of Ypres, after all it's been through, would be the saddest and most unfair thing we could ever do to this band and our supporters. I also think it was important for us, the band, to imagine and realize how it would feel, if it were true, if we did decide to finally call it quits when things were just starting to happen. Offering the news of our demise was also the most satisfying false sense of temporary satisfaction we could possibly give to our many haters who've been hoping that we'd finally quit for years, of whose lost spirits we can now continue to crush with the announcement of our signing to the mighty Earache Records!

Asomvel - Vocalist/Bassist Jay Jay Winter Passes Away
It's with heavy hearts that we announce that Jay-Jay Winter, bassist & singer with ASOMVEL has lost his life in a car accident. He was driving home Today on October 18th when en route he was forced off the road by another drivers incompetence. Jay later died in hospital from the injuries he sustained.
Jay was a great man, he was one of the most honest, forthright and brutally truthful people you could ever hope to meet. With his razor sharp wit and frank opinions, he was loved and respected by all of his peers in the UK Metal community because of his strength of character. He was generous and helpful to a fault with people who deserved it, and sometimes even with people who didn't deserve it. Such was his love of fair play and the underdog getting the upper hand.
He was more than just a bandmate, he was also a family member and a true friend. We are all stunned by this turn of events and hope that you will all understand why all our forthcoming gigs are now cancelled.
R.I.P. Jay Jay.
Lenny Robinson & Ian Wright (ASOMVEL, October 18th 2010).
"Jay Jay Winter - A REAL MAN, he played every English shithole under the sun and spoke the truth like we all should and nothing else. Let this be a lesson to us all. IF SOMETHING WAS SHIT HE SAID IT. 100% Respect to the man. Jay was like a big brother to me, he introduced me to the pleasure of cheap whiskey and a love for loose Women, How can anyone deny that to a man ? But he also cared for the underdog, he was a warm hearted bastard and would never see anyone on their arse?he looked after my goodself even when I was passed out in the piss filled toilets whilst wearing his own leather jacket back in Harrow 2008...
Turn it up LOUDER you daft twats??I'm playing some Venom and downing a bottle of Jameson's tonight for the man!"
Randy Reaper - THE LAMP OF THOTH
"Jay Jay Winter was the perfect sardonic counterpart to Lenny's playful enthusiasm. If he wanted to take the piss out of you and rip you a new one - he could do it with ease. His command of the well timed phrase and put down was legendary. I learned that to take him on in a piss-taking contest was like bringing a blunt and rusty pen-knife to a gun fight. I remember being quite wary of him at first - here was a guy you just would not mess with. But as I got to know him, I realised that he was also a true Yorkshire gentleman possessed with the unyielding commonsense and common courtesy of that race - he was a force of nature on and off the stage.

Hull - EP Available For Streaming
Hull's crushing Viking Funeral EP is currently streaming in its entirety via Decibel Magazine's recently relaunched website. The unsung, 16-plus minute EP was initially self-released by the Brooklyn-based, three-guitar led sludge metal collective back in 2007 - their first official recording. It comes hand numbered/crafted with stunning artwork by Jorden Haley, still available in poster format for purchase via the band.
Said the band of the recording: "Viking Funeral is a two-movement EP that focuses on the life of war and struggle of an antiquated culture... This EP will eventually be part of a full-length album that touches on life, death and afterlife in the Viking mythology."
To check out Viking Funeral, visit Decibel Magazine.
Hull released their debut full-length, Sole Lord, via The End Records in 2009. The band is currently working on their follow-up with co-producer Brett Romnes, who played drums on the Viking Funeral EP. Further details to be announced shortly.

Rikki Mannhard - known for his work for French traditional metal band Mystery Blue - has now officially joined Lonewolf.
The band had been struggling to find a new bassist for a while now, with ex-Nightmare guitarist Alex Hilbert falling in on several occasions. Hilbert is now the band's new full-time new guitarist since the departure of Damien Capolongo less than two weeks ago.
