Hellfest - Another Legend On The Bill: SLASH!

The full line up was announced on the 25th February, but sometimes surprises can happen! We're pleased and proud to announce that the legendary guitarist of Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver SLASH has just confirmed his participation at HELLFEST on Saturday 19th June along with ALICE COOPER, TWISTED SISTER, etc?

Many of you (like us to be honest!) thought that the bill was definitely closed and that there wouldn't be any more additions, but what could we do? Could we refuse to see such a legend on the festival's stage? We decided to give you this little gift which will, for sure, satisfy all the fans of hard rock.

SLASH will be accompanied by famous musicians such as Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), Bobby Schenck (Slash's Snakepit / Aerosmith), Todd Kerns (Age Of Electric / Sin City Sinners) and Brent Fritz (Theory Of A Deadman / Alice Cooper). He will play songs from his latest solo album and classics of Guns n' Roses and Velvet Revolver.

HELLFEST will be upon us in less than 80 days and tickets are selling really well. This gives us high hopes that the festival should be sold out in advance! You know what you have to do now!

Pretty Maids - New Album Details

Pretty Maids' new studio album Pandemonium will be released on May 14th in Europe, and June 8th in North America via Frontiers.

A 90 second snippet of the single "Little Drops of Heaven" is now available for streaming at this location.

Produced by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Rob Rock, Beyond Twilight), Pandemonium with its melodic approach is a definite return to the Future World/Red Hot And Heavy era of the eighties, but with an updated sound and freshness that consolidates that Pretty Maids are as strong as ever.

"I think this new record shows the band in it's finest moment", says singer Ronnie Atkins. "That's definitely our best effort in many years and the spirit in the band is higher than ever".

This album also introduces keyboard player Morten Sandager as a permanent member of the band and his impact is evident on the tracks of the CD, particularly on the hauntingly melodic new single "Little Drops of Heaven" which will be released - only as a digital download, as an exclusive teaser leading to the album's release, on April 13th worldwide.

Written in the fall 2009 and recorded in the winter 2010, Pandemonium will be supported by several festival appearances during the summer of 2010 and then followed by a full scale European tour in October/November 2010.

Neaera - To Enter Studio In June

German metalcore act Neaera have issued the following update:

"Hey there, just a quick update from the rehearsal space for you guys: the songwriting process is going fluently, we´re focused and very close to wrapping this thing up! We are very confident about the song material, this one is going to be a beast.

We will enter the studio in June to work on this next record which will be released in the fall of this year via Metal Blade Records. In compliance with the back-to-the-roots approach to this record, we will record the drums at Stage One Studio with the Mr. Myiagi among metal producers, Andy Classen, who already produced our first record, The Rising Tide Of Oblivion. Of course, we will also work again with our good friend Alexander Dietz, the self-proclaimed Brad Pitt among metal producers, on this one. The mixing / mastering will be done by none other than Tue Madsen. We will continue to update you guys as more information unfolds."

Xasthur - Final Album Announced

Malefic, frontman of black metal band Xasthur, announced that Portal of Sorrow is the title of the eighth album. This album will also be the last album that is released under the Xasthur moniker. The Xasthur blog reads:

"This album, Portal of Sorrow, is the last Xasthur album, period. The honorable thing to do is to end the band and not hang around too long, like so many metal/black metal bands do. Enough is enough, right?

I'm not able to make it work anymore. I don't want to turn into one of those bands who rely on too many guests and session musicians to make people interested in their music again. Some help is fine but more than some help is very cheap and it becomes others, not the roots of the band that makes the difference and the music work. I don't want to fall into that pattern. The motivation and inspiration used to be there full time and now it's not there at all, not for doing Xasthur at least. It is a roll or persona that I have simply outgrown. I've been saying I'm sick and tired of it all for too long... and now, I'm going to back it up. There are or have been literally 18,000 black metal bands; it does not matter if there's one less.

Just like in the nineties, I made a few recent attempts to put a real line-up together and it still failed; another sign that said "give it up already".

However, I wanted to end on a better note with this 'Portal of Sorrow' album because the album that came before it, 'All reflections drained', was not up to par and I couldn't finish up with an album that I was less than satisfied with. Now, I suppose any or all goals have been reached and there is nothing more I wish to try with Xasthur and it's time to move on...

Since it would be foolish to give up music all together, I have something else to fall back on that is beginning to take shape. It's a new beginning that I'm quite excited about.

Instead, I'm going to do something different by not performing any kind of metal at all! There's no use in trying to reinvent black metal or turn it upside down, it's all been done and in the end, it's still metal and will remain within those circles, stereotypes and boundaries no matter what. Overall, I need a bigger change in my life and with music than just trying to change metal. There isn't anything to lose.

I would ask you to stay tuned for my next project and give it a plug but there's no need to. It's probably of no interest to you and again, it has nothing to do with metal and I'm not trying to keep any connection or ties to it. I will not name influences, genres or anything of the sort.

Vanden Plas - New Album In June

The new Vanden Plas album The Seraphic Clockwork will be released on the 4th of June 2010 by Frontiers Records. The 8 songs were recorded at Bazement Studio by engineer Markus Teske and produced by the band.

The story of the concept album was written by Andy Kuntz and tells about a journey in time. The protagonist, who lives in 16th century Rome, comes under the spell of an Old Testament prophecy. He travels back to Jerusalem in the year 33 Anno Domini where he must face his God-given destiny.

Stephan Lill states about the new album: "I think that my preference for heavier bands shines through more than ever before. Heavy riffs, elaborate keyboard and orchestra arrangements plus catchy hook lines come together in a perfect symbiosis which marks Vanden Plas' characteristic style. I feel that we were much more adventurous on The Seraphic Clockwork than ever before."

The 11th Hour - Frank Harthoorn Joins

Official press release

It is with great pleasure that I welcome my former Gorefest buddy Frank Harthoorn to the triple axe live incarnation of The 11th Hour! He'll be sharing the stage with us at all upcoming gigs including the renowned Doom Shall Rise festival in Göppingen (9th of April). This means we're saying goodbye to Petra Guijt who will of course continue to perform with her bands Deadcell and Toxocara, we wish her all the best with her future musical endeavours!

Frank meanwhile has mastered the 6 chapters of doom that comprise The 11th Hour's debut album Burden Of Grief and adds considerable weight to the already massive live-sound. His dedication to delivering the Riff, the whole Riff, and nothing but the Riff is legendary (at least it is to me) and I look forward to exploring the road to musical misery with this new yet old companion.

The 11th Hour is:
Ed Warby - Guitar & Vocals
Pim Blankenstein - Vocals
Bram Bijlhout - Guitar
Frank Harthoorn - Guitar
Daniël Huijben - Bass
Dirk Bruinenberg - Drums

Upcoming shows:
Doom Shall Rise VII, Göppingen - 9-4-2010
Stonehenge Festival, Steenwijk - 31-7-2010
Springstof Festival, Kampen - 14-8-2010

More to follow!
Cheers,

Ed

God Dethroned - Band Update

Metal Blade Records has extended God Dethroned's contract yet again to - as the press release goes - "continue putting out some of the most intense and unique death metal albums from one of the genre's best bands".

God Dethroned will be campaigning across North America once again. This time, they'll be supporting Overkill's 25th Anniversary Killfest tour throughout April. The tour starts April 1st in Philadelphia at the Trocadero.

Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel comments, "We are very happy to continue our long and great relationship with God Dethroned. We've been working with the band and Henri for over a decade and we look forward to more great music from them in the future!"

Henri Sattler, God Dethroned guitarist and vocalist adds, "Once you're in it, you're in it for life, the head of Metal Blade in Europe once said to me. It was already a dream come true to sign our first deal with the label back in '97, and now 13 years later we just put our signature on our third contract with them. It's just as exciting as it was back then and we're very proud of earning their trust and support after all these years."

"We are halfway through the writing process for a new album, which we will record starting end of May. First, we'll play on the Killfest tour in the U.S. supporting Overkill together with label mates Woe of Tyrants and many other great bands.

Abigail Williams' axeman Ian Jekelis will take over touring duties for Susan, with whom we parted ways last January. We will announce the name of our new shredder right before we play our first European festival in May."

Eciton - To Release New Album Next Month

Bravewords is reporting that Danish death metallers Eciton will release their new album, A Scent Of Veracity, in Denmark on April 26th, and in the rest of Europe on July 5th via Mighty Music.

Eciton was formed in 2000 by musicians that throughout the past 12 years have been involved in numerous death metal bands and projects (drummer Jesper Frost was a member of the now legendary Danish death metal band Iniquity).

In 2003 Eciton won the Danish "Melo-Death Grand Prix", then Scandinavia's biggest competition for unsigned metal bands.

Finally, Eciton's second album is ready for release after the band went through deaths as well as studio and producer changes. Eciton is taking the fast and catchy brutality to it's extremes and mixing it with technical riffing. The lyrics circle around mankind's mental condition and double standard. It's a sharp and critical look at today's political agenda where the media strongly affect opinions, all ironically depicted in the lyrics and the excellent cover artwork.

Further updates to follow. More on the band at this location.

Hammers Of Misfortune - Sign To Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of San Francisco's progressive metal outfit Hammers Of Misfortune. Metal Blade Records will release four of the band's previous releases in late summer 2010 with a new studio album expected in 2011.

Guitarist and founding member John Cobbett says: "Metal Blade contacted us in April of 2009. After some back and forth we came to an agreement that will allow Hammers of Misfortune to continue making albums the way we always have: unsupervised and self-produced. Also, we grew up on Metal Blade releases - from Destruction and Slayer to Trouble and Fates Warning - so we feel pretty good about that."

Metal Blade's Brian Slagel adds: "We are really happy and honored to have signed Hammers of Misfortune. I have been a huge fan for awhile now and I personally am really excited to work with them."

Formed by the eclectic and versatile guitarist John Cobbett (Gwar, Ludicra, Slough Feg, Amber Asylum, Jarboe) in the late 90's, Hammers Of Misfortune started as an exercise in songwriting and making coherent full length albums making the group more of an experiment in art than your typical band. Hammers Of Misfortune is made up of some of the most talented musicians John Cobbett and co. can find. Founding member John Cobbett explains; "I set out to do it this way from the beginning. Having been in a dozen or so bands that broke up before realizing their potential, I decided that the songs and albums were the most important thing. So I formed a 'break-up proof' project that depends more on good material and strong albums than a consistent line-up."

One thing that is consistent, though, is that Hammers Of Misfortune has always consisted of John Cobbett (guitars) and Chewy Marzolo (drums) with Sigrid Sheie (keys, voice, flute) being another a long term member of the group. Bassist Max Barnett (ex-Old Grandad) has been with the group for over a year now and Hammers Of Misfortune recently added Leila Abdul-Rauf (ex-Saros) on guitar and vocals.

Come late summer 2010, Metal Blade Records will be reissuing the entire Hammers Of Misfortune back catalog.
