Firewind - Working On New Material

Guitarist Gus G. of Greek metallers Firewind has issued the following update:

"The past few months for us have been really great. We decided to do select shows and festivals in 2009, so that we can concentrate on writing new material.

So in May we embarked on a 6 date UK / Ireland tour together with Stratovarius and Eden's Curse. All gigs were great and we already miss our UK fans right now... but we'll be back in UK and Ireland in 2010 that's for sure!

So, straight out of the final gig with Stratovarius and into the festival mood we played a bunch of great festivals like Metal Days (Switzerland), Rock Hard (Germany), Graspop (Belgium) for the 2nd year in a row and Tuska (Finland). Then we played a very special show in Greece (and the only one for the rest of the year). We played with the Scorpions & Dokken @ Creta Festival which took place in the beautiful island of Crete. I'm sure all good tourists know where that is.

Not only did we use special pyro for that show, but I also ended up joining my idols, Scorpions, on stage and played "Rock You Like A Hurricane"! This was beyond my imagination and I sure wasn't dreaming! I thank the Scorpions for being so nice to us and for the once-in-a-lifetime invitation to play with them, I'll never forget it!

We're now ready to do the final 3 shows of the summer:

July 19 - Unirock - Turkey
August 14 - Summer Breeze - Germany
August 28 - Ilha Do Ermal festival - Portugal

We'll see you all out there!"

Regarding the upcoming recording session, Gus G. adds:

"So while we've been doing all these select shows this year, we concentrated mainly on writing new material. I can tell you right now that we have 12 great vocal songs and 2 instrumentals. While it's too early to know what will end up on the album, all of us in the band are very pleased with the demos and pre-production we did and we are positive that we're creating the best album of our career so far!

We're planning to enter the studio this Autumn and looking into possibilities of who will be mixing our new album.

As for the material itself, I'd say it's what our fans would expect from us. Powerful rock / metal anthems with cool riffs and memorable vocal lines from Apollo, but also some faster & more technical stuff is on there. We also wrote a very challenging instrumental song. It will have a fusion of styles and advanced playing from all of us. Needless to say the guitar will shred like never before!

The Fall Of Every Season - New Album Finished, Song Online

The Fall Of Every Season mastermind Marius Strand has issued the following update:

"After quite a tiresome year of education and work, the summer has come and I've finally had time to work on The Fall Of Every Season again. The band's new record, a concept-album entitled "Amends", is finally completed, but I still haven't decided on any label for releasing it. For the ones out there who have been waiting for new material, I've decided to put up a full new song from the album. The song is called "The Mammoth", and I sincerely hope you'll sit through the 14 minutes of music and find yourself inspired. (MySpace messed up the quality of the song completely, so I'm putting it on a standalone player, not the usual MySpace-player.) The material on the new record has been dwelling in my head for a couple of years now, and it's quite a relief to finally "let go" of it. It's definitely an evolution of The Fall Of Every Season's sound."

Here's the tracklist for "Amends":

01. Sole Passenger
02. The Mammoth
03. A Portrayal
04. Aurelia
05. Waves

Laethora - First New Album Details

Laethora, the side project of Dark Tranquillity guitarist Niklas Sundin and Joakim Rosén, Jonnie Tell and Joel Lindell from The Provenance have issued the following update:

"Just popped in to say that we are currently waiting to confirm a release date for "The Light In Which We All Burn" and this is one release you really shouldn't miss out on. The first photo shoot for press release was successful and we're all in mint condition, looking more handsome than ever, so don't stare for too long unless you welcome the feeling of inferiority. We'll be back soon with more info on release date so until then; stay wretched!"

Queensrÿche - "Home Again" Video Contest

Queensrÿche's touching ballad "Home Again" from their latest album "American Soldier" has really struck a chord with the military community and now the band wants your help making a video. Queensrÿche is asking members of the Military to submit pictures of themselves with their families to be featured in the upcoming music video for the song "Home Again."

Photos can be uploaded to http://americansoldieralbum.com/homeagain from 7/14/09 - 7/27/09. One Grand prize winner will be seIected at random from all eligible entries. No purchase necessary. The Grand prize winner will receive an ESP LTD Michael Wilton Signature Series Guitar, autographed by Queensrÿche.

About "Home Again": like all the songs on "American Soldier", "Home Again" is based on a real soldier's story as told to singer Geoff Tate. The song features a rare duet between Geoff and his 11-year-old daughter Emily and examines the emotional toll of war from two perspectives - Geoff singing from the soldier's point of view and his daughter singing from that of the child left behind.

Says Geoff Tate: "This song is inspired by a series of letters between a soldier and his young daughter back at home. He was laughing about how he thought it was really cute to him that in the letters, they were both saying the same things and even using the same terminology. There is a lot of emotion attached to this song. The whole idea of separation between loved ones is one of my favorite topics, perhaps because I live and breathe it being away from my kids and my wife while touring. You miss them so much, and it's like you live two separate lives. When you're a soldier and you're away, it's very difficult to bridge those two worlds."
