Alice In Chains - Complete Mixing New Album

Alice In Chains have posted the following band update on their MySpace:

"As most of you who have been paying attention have already figured out, the new Alice In Chains album is finally complete. We've been in the studio since October, and since it all began we celebrated 6 major holidays, elected a new President of the United States, crowned new World Series and Super Bowl champs, endured fires, earthquakes, & blackouts in and around Los Angeles, took a 2 1/2 week break to go to Australia, and to cap it all off, William & Jerry finally euthanized their beards.

This long, arduous process is complete, and although there's still a lot of work to be done, the songs are in the can and that's the most important thing. So what can I tell you when I look back on the last six months? I can tell you that the monotony of 12 to 16 hour days in the studio can be broken up by multiple costumes & hair styles, hours and hours of dice games, any sort of dialogue delivered in a heavily accentuated southern drawl, and a slew of special guests dropping by the studio.

Most of all I can tell you that some amazing songs were written and recorded. From the heaviest riff-dripping gut puncher to the most sadly beautiful song I think this band has ever recorded, I honestly believe that this album will return Alice In Chains to the top of the hard rock heap. So now the next few months are dedicated to things like album artwork, lining up interviews & press, shooting videos, planning tours, and figuring out whether to bury Jerry & William's beards at sea or donate them to science.

Hopefully these new songs will strike a chord and make a similar impact on all of you out there that were moved by this band in the first place. These songs have definitely done that with me, and frankly I'm getting pretty sick and tired of loving this stuff alone, so I can't wait for it to be released so it'll become your favorite record of 2009 and we can discuss it at the shows.

So clear a slot in your CD shelf and schedule maternity leave from work in September, because the long drought will be over soon."

Power Quest - Part Ways With Guitarist Again

English power metallers Power Quest have posted the following news:

"We are sorry to announce that after 10 months Bill Hudson and Power Quest have parted ways. The split was extremely amicable and was down to the fact that both parties were struggling with the logistics of Bill being based in LA and the rest of the band in Europe.

Power Quest keyboardist and founder Steve Williams commented: "Unfortunately the timescales and costs involved were too great for us to be able to manage in the current climate. We remain the very best of friends and certainly do not rule out a collaboration between myself and Bill in the not too distant future. We all wish him the very best for the future with Circle II Circle and his other projects and we look forward to him joining us on stage at ProgPower USA in Atlanta in September!"

Bill Hudson also commented: "Yeah, it's true. I'm no longer in Power Quest and that pretty much sucks. Unfortunately, having to fly back and forth between Europe and the US became a hassle, and I was even having to NOT to be present at some shows, such as Hammerfest in Wales. That situation wasn't good for either of us. However, you can expect to see me on stage with them at ProgPower USA this year, as well as some other surprises that might just appear here and there! Just to make it clear: I still love those dudes and we're still the best of friends! I wanna thank all of our amazing fans (some of the most hardcore I've ever seen) as well as Manuela, Simon and Paul, who work their asses off to make Power Quest's life easier on the road!"

Borknagar - New Album Title Named

The following update has been posted by Borknagar guitarist Øystein Garnes Brun on the band's Myspace page:

"The title of the new Borknager album will be nothing less than: "Universal".

As the musical and lyrical approach of the album has shaped up during the production of the new album, the title "Universal" is the title that shines through and mirrors the essence of the album. "Universal" is a title that is broad enough and huge enough to project the giant character of this album, both musically and lyrically.

The production of the new album is going as planned and the album will be mixed at Toproom studios by the end of April. We can assure you that the new album will come with a massive, energic and vital production that few can match, by far the best production we have had so far. The album is planned to be released through Indie Recordings in September, later this year, an actual date will be issued later."

Sacred Oath - New Video Online

MTV has the exclusive on the world premier of the new video from Sacred Oath "Counting Zeros". Check it out at this location.

"Counting Zeros," also the first single from the self-titled new album, was handpicked by iTunes as their Discovery Download Pick Of The Week for April 7th, and the band quickly set upon creating a video for the song.

"I couldn't be happier," said lead singer/guitarist Rob Thorne in a written statement released by the label Angel Thorne Music. "Counting Zeros is my favorite track on the album for so many reasons, not least of which is the lyric content. A few years ago we were uncovering the corruption underneath the war in Iraq. Now we're neck deep in AIG bonuses and Bernie Madoff. 'Counting Zeros' is a call to arms."

It seems fitting for a band whose loyal fans refer to themselves as "Oathbangers" to pair up with Headbanger's Blog for the video debut. Sacred Oath released their first album in 1987 ("A Crystal Vision") when Headbanger's Ball was new and enjoying tremendous popularity. "Our fans have always been the "oathbanger"," says Thorne. "Everyone was bangin' something back then," he says with a smile.

The new album from Sacred Oath cracked the Top 50 on the rock charts within the first three days of sales on iTunes. At the #46 position (and climbing), this is already the best-selling album ever for the band. "Unbelievable," croaked Thorne from a 7:30 am wakeup call announcing the chart stats. "This is our time. Classic metal is back. Hand me the damn flag, I'll wave it with pride."

The Gathering - Announces Dutch Try-Out Dates

Drummer Hans Rutten of The Gathering has posted the following update on the band's website:

"First of all: we will do a couple of try out gigs before we start the festival season. We will play in Heerlen and Purmerend, both located in The Netherlands. Please note these are try-out gigs. Things will go wrong. But that's also the fun part, we just play and we will see what happens! Both evenings will be a lot of fun for sure.

Today we received "The West Pole" vinyl test pressing. As we are living in a digital world I forgot the sound of a black 12 inch on a turntable. It is incredible! The sound is so much warmer, rounder, the high tones are crispy, bass sounds so creamy... Well I can go on for a while, but above all be sure you grab a copy of "The West Pole" on vinyl before they cost 200 dollar on eBay! Btw, it is a double album, 180 grams, specially remastered for vinyl, and with a different running order. Still available at our webshop, but we will only make 500 copies (limited), and they go faaast."

In other news, a new song from the upcoming album "The West Pole", called "No Bird Call" is exclusively available for streaming on the band's webshop with a quite higher quality than the MySpace player.
