Dimmu Borgir - New Album Track List Revealed + Other Details About The Album

Norwegian symphonic black metallers Dimmu Borgir have finalized the track listing for their new album, "In Sorte Diaboli", due in North America on April 24 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will arrive in Europe on April 30 (April 27 in Germany).

"In Sorte Diaboli" was recorded and mixed at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producers Fredrik Nordström and Patrik J. Sten. A limited-edition digipack version of the CD will include the bonus cut "The Ancestral Fever" along with a bonus DVD containing the video for the album's opening track, "The Serpentine Offering", shot by director Patric Ullaeus of Sweden's Revolver Film Company. Ordering information on both the regular and digipack version can be found at www.cdon.com.

"In Sorte Diaboli" track listing:

01. The Serpenitine Offering
02. The Chosen Legacy
03. The Conspiracy Unfolds
04. The Ancestral Fever (bonus track)
05. The Sacrilegious Scorn
06. The Fallen Arise
07. The Sinister Awakening
08. The Fundamental Alienation
09. The Invaluable Darkness
10. The Foreshadowing Furnace

As previously reported, Nuclear Blast Records has launched a special "In Sorte Diaboli" news page at this location.

Dimmu Borgir guitarist Silenoz previously told Revolver magazine that the songwriting and recording process for the group's long-anticipated follow-up to 2003's "Death Cult Armageddon" involved none of the intensive pre-production of their last two discs, no demos, and no gallinvanting around with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. "It's definitely going to sound way more epic and bigger than we thought, because Mustis has also contributed with his keyboard ideas," said Silenoz. "I have to admit that some of the keyboard things on 'Death Cult Armageddon' sound better on the demo version than on the album. I probably shouldn't say that, but it's true."

This will be Dimmu's first concept album, a story set in always-epic Medieval Europe that also serves as a treatise on the modern-day political and social abuses of organized religion. "There's this dude that works as a priest's assistant, and after a while he just discovers that he has nothing to do with Christianity," said Silenoz of the storyline, which he conceived in full before even a note of music was composed. "He just sort of has this awakening and realizes that he has different abilities and different powers and is leaning more to the dark side."

Dimmu Borgir - New Album Title Revealed

Posted by guitarist Silenoz on the official website:

"After what we can call a pretty mellow and relaxed mixing session (at least from a dimmucratic point of view), In Sorte Diaboli is now mixed and ready for mastering! Ooops?happened to mention the album title there.

"Anyways, mastering duties will be done pretty soon courtesy of Russ Russell at an undisclosed location in the UK.
We'd especially like to thank Fredrik and Patrik for the great work they've done helping us creating such a great sound! Would you really expect anything else? Not only that but also for putting up with our bullshit for over a month, trust me when I say there are just a few out there capable of doing that..."

Meeting Patric Ullaeus and discussing the new video was satisfying as well. There are some really nice ideas brewing at the moment! More about that later?"

Dimmu Borgir - Album Recording Finished

Dimmu Borgir has finished the recording process for their upcoming yet-to-be-titled album. The album was recorded and produced at Studio Fredman in Sweden by Frederick Nordström and Patrik J. Sten. This album is a concept album that deals with organzied religion and policits that is set in medieval Europe. Guitarist Silenoz says this about the concept:

"There's this dude that works as a priest's assistant, and after a while he just discovers that he has nothing to do with Christianity. He just sort of has this awakening and realizes that he has different abilities and different powers and is leaning more to the dark side."

The new Dimmu Borgir album is set for an early 2007 release via Nuclear Blast Records.

Dimmu Borgir - Frontman Talks About Side-Project Chrome Division

MrRock.net recently conducted an interview with Dimmu Borgir frontman Shagrath about his side-project Chrome Division (in which he plays guitar). A few excerpts from the chat:

MrRock.net: As a musician, how important is it for you to show all of your musical sides, and not just be considered a black metal musician?

Shagrath: Do you mean me personally?

MrRock.net: Yes.

Shagrath: Well, you know, I'm satisfied with my role in Dimmu. I create all of the music for Dimmu, which people probably don't know much about — they think that I'm just singing, but I also create a lot of the music for Dimmu Borgir. But a lot of the people don't see it like that. They see me more as a singer, but I've also played guitar for many years, I play keyboards for years.

MrRock.net: As a guitar player, who would you say are your biggest influences? I hear a lot of Ted Nugent in your monster guitar riffs.

Shagrath: I don't think that I take direct inspiration from any specific person, but I like a lot of different styles of music. I like AC/DC, Motörhead, some Black Labe Society, Monster Magnet, and bands like that. I don't try and copy anyone in those bands, but you can hear some similarities between bands like us and, say, a band like Motörhead.

MrRock.net: Is Chrome Division going to be doing any touring?

Shagrath: Well, you know, Dimmu is still my main responsibility and we are in the process of making a new album and writing new songs, so I have to prioritize that. But also, the other people in the band also have day jobs, families, and children. It's very hard to book a full tour. We have gotten some offers, but so far we have only played one show. But, if the timing is right, and everybody is able to do it, we'll try to take as many live jobs as possible. It wouldn't be like a full tour though.

MrRock.net: I know it's still early to tell, but will there be more Chrome Division music coming down the road?

Shagrath: Actually, we meet up once a week, and we already have 3 new songs written, and we're working on song number 4 for the next album.

The History of Black Metal continues?

Dimmu Borgir - Hellhammer on the New Album

DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Silenoz has confirmed that MAYHEM's Jan Axel Blomberg (a.k.a. Hellhammer) will play on the next DIMMU BORGIR CD as a session drummer. In a posting on the band's official web site, Silenoz writes, "To get this rumor bullshit out of the way, we confirm that mercenary Hellhammer will be doing the drums for us as a session member on the next album. And that's that."

The Norwegian symphonic black metallers had previously utilized the services of NILE's Tony Laureano and Reno Kiilerich (PANZERCHRIST, EXMORTEM, VILE) as touring members following the departure of Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH) in early 2004.

DIMMU BORGIR recently announced plans to re-record their second album, "Stormblåst" (originally released in 1996 via Cacophonous Records) later in the year. No further information is currently available.

Dimmu Borgir - a new interview with Silenoz

Jared Gardner recently interviewed DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Silenoz. Here are the highlights:

Death Cult Armageddon was released approximately eight months ago in September of last year. How have the fans been on tour? Have you seen a lot of new faces coming to shows since DCA was released?

"Yeah, there are loads of new fans of course. After every new release there seems to be more and more. But it's all good since most of the fans that have supported us since the beginning are still there as well. A good mix of young and old blood I'd say. We're lucky that way."

What's happening with Dimmu Borgir between now and the first Ozzfest show in July?

"We'll be doing a couple of festival shows in Europe first, before the first show on Ozzfest, so that's good. We have to get used to those freekin' tall stages again... I hate that. I get dizzy very easily. Other than that we're just rehearshing to get the set tight. We'll be doing Off-fest shows as well with LACUNA COIL I believe. We only get 30 minutes on Ozzfest, so it's cool to headline a few in between."

The new drummer Reno is reportedly working out really well. Do you think he will be the permanent replacement for Nick Barker? Or is Reno only going to fill in as a session drummer?

"He'll be considered as a session player for the time being. We have no rush in getting a new full time member at this point. But it's working out nicely with Reno so far. Of course it's a bit different. He's got a different style, so it takes more than a few shows to adapt to the songs in a live situation."

Dimmu Borgir will be performing on the main stage at Ozzfest this year. A great achievement for the band and a great opportunity to gain new fans in the USA. Dimmu is also the only black metal band on the bill thereby giving you the opportunity to expose enormous amounts of people to a new style of music. Was that your motivation for joning Ozzfest?

"Well, if you're in a band, growing up listening to SABBATH, PRIEST and SLAYER, and you get the offer to participate on mainstage Ozzfest with those bands, the answer is clearly in front of you. I personally don't need any other reasons. But of course it's also a great opportunity for us to show what we're about, to an audience that still seems to be a bit lost in what they call 'nu-metal'. Personally I don't understand that term. Either it's metal or it's not."

DIMMU BORGIR New Session Drummer ASGEIR MICKELSON

Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have recruited Asgeir Mickelson (BORKNAGAR, SPIRAL ARCHITECT) as the session drummer for their upcoming live appearances, BLABBERMOUTH.NET can exclusively reveal.

Mickelson joins the DIMMU ranks as a temporary replacement for Nick Barker, who was unceremoniously "removed" from the group's lineup in January.

In his first interview since being fired from DIMMU BORGIR, Barker told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that the group's decision to let him go came as a "total surprise" to him, with Nick attributing the split to "the distance thing ? me being English and those guys being Norwegians. And me commuting from England to Norway all the time. I guess they thought things just weren't working out. I think there might have been a few cultural differences, with me being English and those guys being Norwegians."

DIMMU BORGIR are scheduled to play a few live shows in South America in late April, to be followed by several European festival appearances and a much-anticipated main-stage slot at this year's Ozzfest.
