Queensrÿche - Empire 20th Anniversary Edition

Queensrÿche has partnered with Capitol/EMI for the September 14 September 28 release of an expanded 20th Anniversary Edition of the band's triple platinum-certified breakout album, Empire.

The new 2-CD and digital packages both include the remastered album, featuring six hit singles, including the #1 smash "Silent Lucidity," as well as 13 bonus tracks, among them 10 previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1990 at London's Hammersmith Odeon. The 2-CD package is presented in a lift-top box with five postcards, a fold-out poster and a booklet featuring rare photos from the band's personal archive, as pictured here.

After building a devoted fan base with album and EP releases throughout the 1980's, including 1988's critically acclaimed Operation: Mindcrime, Queensrÿche broke into the mainstream across North America and abroad with the 1990 release of Empire. In the U.S., the album peaked at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and its hit ballad "Silent Lucidity" quickly became a heavy rotation staple at rock radio and on MTV, topping Billboard's Modern Rock singles chart and earning Queensrÿche the coveted MTV Viewers Choice Award for the song's music video. Empire also made the U.K.'s Top 10, and the album's international success led to Queensrÿche's 18-month headlining "Building Empires" world tour, the band's longest trek to date.

Queensrÿche - "Home Again" Video Contest

Queensrÿche's touching ballad "Home Again" from their latest album "American Soldier" has really struck a chord with the military community and now the band wants your help making a video. Queensrÿche is asking members of the Military to submit pictures of themselves with their families to be featured in the upcoming music video for the song "Home Again."

Photos can be uploaded to http://americansoldieralbum.com/homeagain from 7/14/09 - 7/27/09. One Grand prize winner will be seIected at random from all eligible entries. No purchase necessary. The Grand prize winner will receive an ESP LTD Michael Wilton Signature Series Guitar, autographed by Queensrÿche.

About "Home Again": like all the songs on "American Soldier", "Home Again" is based on a real soldier's story as told to singer Geoff Tate. The song features a rare duet between Geoff and his 11-year-old daughter Emily and examines the emotional toll of war from two perspectives - Geoff singing from the soldier's point of view and his daughter singing from that of the child left behind.

Says Geoff Tate: "This song is inspired by a series of letters between a soldier and his young daughter back at home. He was laughing about how he thought it was really cute to him that in the letters, they were both saying the same things and even using the same terminology. There is a lot of emotion attached to this song. The whole idea of separation between loved ones is one of my favorite topics, perhaps because I live and breathe it being away from my kids and my wife while touring. You miss them so much, and it's like you live two separate lives. When you're a soldier and you're away, it's very difficult to bridge those two worlds."

Queensrÿche - US Tour Dates

Official press release

Queensrÿche envisions war through the eyes of a soldier with the band's twelfth studio release, the epic concept album "American Soldier". The ambitious album encompasses a dozen songs inspired by numerous interviews with veterans conducted by Geoff Tate, the group's singer and chief songwriter, who was intent on telling their story using their words. After speaking with soldiers who served in various conflicts - from World War II to Iraq - Tate turned their firsthand experiences from the frontlines into an unflinching musical examination of the life of a soldier and the consequences of war. "American Soldier" will be available from Atco/Rhino on March 31 for a suggested list price of $18.98 (CD) and $9.99 (digital).

Tate, Michael Wilton (guitar), Ed Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums) recorded the album in 2008 over the course of nine months. The idea for "American Soldier", Tate says, came from hearing stories from fans that are veterans, as well as his own father, who served in both Korea and Vietnam. "My father was a career military man, but until very recently he never spoke about what he went through. I think that reticence is true of a lot of veterans, which means most people never truly understand what it means to be a soldier at war. Hearing what he and some of our fans have endured made me want to share their stories with the world. This is an album about the soldiers, for the soldiers, as told by the soldiers themselves."

Those stories resonate at the heart of "American Soldier", imbuing each song with vivid details about both the emotional and physical impacts of war, evoking war zone battles ("Middle Of Hell"), sacrifice ("The Killer"), loss ("If I Were King"), the longing for home ("Remember Me"), and adjusting to society after returning from war ("Man Down!").

Tate recorded many of his interviews with the soldiers, and some dialogue from these discussions is mixed into several of tracks, allowing the soldiers' own words to help tell their compelling stories. The band also brought a few of the soldiers into the studio with them to record vocals. The verses of the track "Unafraid" feature the voices of Chris Devine, a Vietnam veteran, and Sean Lenahan, a veteran of Somalia, recalling their war experiences while Tate provides the anthemic chorus. Also making a guest vocal appearance is Tate's 10-year-old daughter Emily on the gripping duet "Home Again," which examines the emotional toll of war from two perspectives, with Geoff singing from the soldier's point of view and his daughter singing from the viewpoint of the child left behind.

Queensrÿche - Guitarist Quits

Guitarist Mike Stone has decided he will not be touring with Queensrÿche this spring. The band commented: "We will miss him. He is a wonderful player and has contributed to our lives musically and spiritually. We wish him the best and hope to see him succeed in everything he chooses to participate in."

Mike Stone adds this statement: "After much consideration, I will not be joining Queensrÿche on the 2009 "American Soldier Tour". I feel now is the time to focus on other musical endeavors, including my new band Speed X with Nick Catanese of Black Label Society. I would like to thank all of the Queensrÿche fans around the world for being nothing less than amazing to me during my time with the band. You have treated me like gold, and I will never forget it. Queensrÿche - Song Snippet Available For Download

Queensrÿche announced the following post on their official website:

"Soon, people all over Washington state will be hearing the new tour commerical for Snoqualmie casino. The show isn't until April, but what's interesting is what the commerial reveals. Two really cool bits of information. First, the show will consist of three suites:

Suite #1: selections from "Rage For Order"
Suite #2: selections from "American Soldier"
Suite #3: selections from "Empire"

But what's even better than that is the small snippet of music embedded in the commerical itself. The song, "If I Were King", is one of the new tracks off of the upcoming album "American Solider", due out in April.

Queensrÿche - Set To Unveil New Album This Spring

Queensrÿche is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their 12th studio album, "American Soldier". The concept album, due this spring from Rhino/Atco, finds the band once again tackling some heavy subject matter, this time focusing on telling the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate has spent the last few years conducting extensive interviews with veterans and has crafted their thoughts into this epic tale. "American Soldier" examines American wars from World War II through Iraq from the viewpoint of those in the trenches and on the frontlines. Following the album's release, Queensrÿche plan to present tracks from the album live on an extensive spring tour of the U.S., with international dates to follow later in 2009. The first date of the tour will be a hometown gig at Seattle's Snoqualmie Casino on April 16.

"Queensrÿche has always had incredible support from members of the Armed Services," says vocalist Geoff Tate. "It seems like after every show, I'd end up speaking with a fan that was or had been involved with the military. The more and more I began to hear their accounts and feelings, the more I really felt a conviction to tell their story. Over the last two years, I've conducted dozens of one-on-one interviews with veterans of many different American wars. I listened to their amazing and moving recounts and did my best to examine war through their eyes."

Queensrÿche - Videos From Live Acoustic Set Online

Still holding the flame, metal vets Queensrÿche stopped by MP3.com to play an acoustic set.

In a career that has spanned nearly three decades, Queensrÿche has released 20 albums and toured relentlessly. In doing so, it has been a long-time favorite of both headbangers and fans of more operatic music.

Some people might know this band only from its biggest chart hit "Silent Lucidity," but Queensrÿche was around long before that and shows no sign of slowing down. Frontman Geoff Tate and company recently announced that a new album is in the works.

In San Francisco on yet another tour, the band stopped by MP3.com to play a short set, including "The Killing Words" from the 1986 album "Rage For Order", "Eyes Of A Stranger" from its 1988 breakthrough "Operation: Mindcrime", and "The Hands" from "Operation: Mindcrime II".

The quintet also threw in a cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Almost Cut My Hair" from their 2007 covers album, "Take Cover".

Check out the live set at this location.
