Sounds more like next year. Also their last show wasn't particularly good. It was mostly plain boring and way too long.

Valentin: For say half a year now you've only talked about two bands, Running Wild and The Scorpions. Both being incredibly 80's and old, and both doing what would need to grow up a lot to be called metal. So there's your chance to find new bands right here

It is kinda sad...they were great when I saw them last summer, but that's not just it - what really saddens me is that one of the ageless and most well-known bands ever is breaking up for real...I've always though that...bands of that caliber, history and repute just...don't break...ever...I'd like to believe that a lot of things can change for a year, let alone a few years, but still...it is very sad news indeed...

And what do you expect from those old 70s and 80s metal bands, really?

They won't stay active forever, you know. All of them are getting quite old so it's normal they start to call a quit one after the other. Many others will call a quit in the next years. And a few bands will probably disband after the death of a key band member. That's the circle of life. Life is a turning wheel and nothing is eternal. People like you who seem to be surprised each time an old band calls a quit are unrealistic, because it was to be expected.

About "every decent band is disbanding these days", you're the only one to blame if the situation makes you sad. Make some effort to find new and younger bands, instead of sticking to grandfathers who play the same old outdated stuff for decades.
I'm twice as old as you, I grew up listening to those bands when they were at their best, but I try to live with my time and refuse to stick to things that belong to the past. It's something I find quite weird, you know. I would have many more reasons than people who are in their early 20s to be sad of this situation but it doesn't make me sad at all. Why? Because I'm realistic and what happens now is only logical.

This whole post is really uncalled for. It's always sad to see one of your favorite bands disband no matter for what reason. Apart from that, Val actually does listen to quite a number of today's bands from many different genres.

And why again would anyone stop liking bands just because they're old? I would shit my pants right here if Pink Floyd announced a reunion tour with both Waters and Gilmour in the lineup. Same goes for Led Zeppelin with Robert Plant. And I manage to be a fan of a big number of today's bands.

My point was simply that most people see the old metal bands for what they were and not what they are. If they'd see them for what they are, they would not be surprised when events like that happen.

The really sad part is... I just got into them.

granted, my first reply was a bit over the top, but it was because i was genuinely shocked and saddened from the announcement. i am NOT some guy living in the 80s, i know and love tons of other bands(the list is huge, believe me) whose band members were in kindergarten at best during the 80s. none of them are among my all-time favorites, except maybe for Amon Amarth, but some of those bands are growing on me.
it's just the fact that Scorpions has been growing on me a lot during the past months, i passed a great opportunity to see them in July last year with Blind Guardian and Edguy supporting(two godly live bands and one good live band), and now i realize what i missed and that i have a very limited time-span in which i can see them.

Remind me, Lord, what was the reason people cant enjoy both old AND new bands? It's just that my senile, 80s mind is not what it used to be anymore, and I'm having trouble remembering things...That was one bitch of a post, you know...Yes, I am very sad that Scorpions are about to disband, I was very sad when Therion's entire line-up save Christofer left, I was also extremely sad when Warning disbanded for a second time...It always sucks when a favourite band breaks up, no matter which decade saw their glory days...And yes, if such band happens to be one of the all-time legends in musical history, it DOES add a particularly more bitter flavour to it...So if you have a problem with that, feel free to go and tell people to "find new musical interests" and "stop living in the 80's" all you want, I couldn't care less...

Nah, the real relief was that manowar missed the opportunity to appear for a third consecutive year, else I would've never seen Scorpions live, mhahaha... No, really, it was an all-german night, and it was very cool...

As always, Marcel is the party crasher extraordinaire.. i think he wants to get people down so everyone will be as misanthropic and world-weary as he is in order to fully appreciate the majestic genres of funeral doom and sludge metal.

Well, they're splitting up after so long. At least the band didn't end by some of the members dying in a freak accident or something along those lines. Them ending on a high note is a nice sign. IT sucks that they're splitting up, but almost all earthly things come to an end.

I will answer your question. I'm well aware there are people who enjoy both old and new bands. I was talking of those people who say that 80s metal can never be surpassed and that metal is only noise nowadays. Most of those people never took the time to listen to anything more recent and prefer to regurgitate their bitterness at the first occasion. I have very little respect for those people who are stuck in the 80s and can't accept that things change with time. I know lots of people like that. They're totally ignorant of what happened on the metal scene in the last decades. Their knowledge about metal is almost strictly limited to mainstream stuff like Metallica.
Good if it's not your case.
Don't put the hat on your head if it doesn't fit, I would say.

This is really sad, but everything has an end. Scorpions is one of the greatest bands in the world.
