Cathedral - Pull Out Of Hammer Of Doom Festival Due To Animal Blood In Stage Show
The organizers of the Hammer Of Doom Festival are out looking for another headliner to finalize the bill after seminal UK doom metal act Cathedral cancelled their appearance at the festival. Apparently the performance of one of the other bands has created some, uh, bad blood.
The organization of the festival, taking place October 28-29 at Posthalle in Würzburg, Germany, released the following announcement: "Unfortunately Cathedral cancelled their show at Hammer Of Doom Festival cause they do not play with The Devil's Blood. In their opinion the band is doing animal abuse, cause they use pig blood as part of their stage show. We now had the choice of cancelling The Devil's Blood, or risk the cancellation of Cathedral. Since we do not let anyone tell us who is playing our festival, we decided for The Devil's Blood and as expected Cathedral cancelled their show. We see the cause for their cancellation very doubtful since there is not any kind of animal abuse in the stage show of The Devil's Blood nor are they doing anything illegal."
Cathedral issued the following statement: "Regrettably, Cathedral will be withdrawing from their planned appearance at this year's Hammer of Doom festival. This is due to the use of animal blood as part of the stage show of one of the other bands on the bill. We do not condone nor endorse this type of activity, and in fact we are very much opposed to it. We would like to apologise sincerely to any of our fans who were expecting to see us at Hammer of Doom, but we feel very strongly about this issue and therefore felt we had no alternative but to withdraw".
In a recent update the band has announced they will leave the stage permanently after a December 3rd gig at the London Kentish Town Forum.
