Suicide Silence - Vocalist Eddie Hermida Joins, Quits All Shall Perish

The last time we heard about Suicide Silence, they had announced the passing of their vocalist Mitch Lucker, who died after a motorcycle accident last year. Recently, the band confirmed they would continue with a new vocalist and have now made the reveal. Suicide Silence's new frontman will be Hernan "Eddie" Hermida. You might know him as former All Shall Perish vocalist. Mere hours after the deathcore band revealed this, All Shall Perish also confirmed his decision to leave the band.

Suicide Silence's statement: "Suicide Silence is pleased to announce the addition of Eddie Hermida to the family. Many of you may be familiar with Eddie through his work with All Shall Perish. For those of you unfamiliar, our relationship with Eddie goes way back to the Spreading Disease Tour, our first U.S. headlining run, in 2006. Mitch & Eddie remained long-time friends and we felt that if the band were to continue it should be with someone Mitch knew personally and respected as both a friend and an artist. We've chosen Eddie as our new frontman in association with this long-standing relationship & countless other attributes from his quality of character to his dynamic vocal abilities that make him the absolute best fit for this band.

We hope you all will embrace this decision with open arms understanding that this is what Mitch would have wanted. He would want his brothers to stick together & carry forward what he helped create. Every time we step on stage it will be in his honor & for his legacy. Suicide Silence will continue."

All Shall Perish explained: "Earlier today, the official announcement came out that Hernan "Eddie" Hermida has joined Suicide Silence. Eddie has quit All Shall Perish to join Suicide Silence full time. To all our fans who want to know about the future of ASP, keep this in mind: Mike Tiner has been a major writer in the band and will continue to be. We had big shoes to fill when guys like Chris Storey and original vocalist Craig Betit left All Shall Perish, but we were able to rebound with the addition of massive talents like Adam Pierce, Francesco Artusato and Eddie Hermida. Eddie has big shoes to fill himself, stepping in for our fallen brother Mitch Lucker. All Shall Perish has continued before and will continue now. We wish Suicide Silence all the best."

And the question is - who cares?

I do cause, whilst I don't mind Suicide Silence and was quite sad when Mitch died, as he seemed like a great person and definitely was an inspiration to many, I am a huge All Shall Perish fan, and I love Eddie's vocals, so I'll miss him from ASP.

Also I think not long ago another ASP member quit so despite their statement, this looks quite grim for the band. I hope they'll recover from it. And I also hope Eddie's joining will improve Suicide Silence.

I was a huge All Shall Perish fan back when The Price of Existence was their current album. Although I haven't much cared for them since that album, but I still always thought Eddie was one of the better deathcore vocalists out there, despite ASP's music sounding generic and boring after the phenomenal The Price of Existence. And I never cared for Suicide Silence, the music never really caught my attention because I was too busy being driven away by Mitch's vocals. I'm sure the guy was a great deathcore vocalist, as the many SS fans out there would attest, but they weren't for me.

Saying all that because that re-recorded "YOLO segment" above actually sounds fairly decent to my ears, within the confines of that 1 minute clip, of course. I don't know what any of the rest of that song sounds like, but I do like that little one minute segment. So maybe, for me anyway, this will work out and I'll be able to enjoy some good, recent Eddie-involved music.

I'm surprised you don't like This Is Where It Ends, I've always thought that album was on par with TPoE (while being slightly weaker) with some quite awesome guitar work, courtesy of Mr. Artusato.

But anyways, I'd say All Shall Perish is as generic as it gets, but to me it does not mean a damn thing cause they were one of the pioneers of the genre, so of course they are going to carry with them pretty much all of the genre's properties.

Anyway - I don't like new vocalist. Mitch Sucker was way better on YOLO.

Well, in all honesty, I may not have entirely given that a full, proper listen. I believe I listened to a few songs online, and none of it really caught my attention, so I moved on. If you say you think is almost on par with TPoE then I'll give it another try. But Awaken the Dreamers was very disappointing to me, it just sounded like very uninteresting TPoE b-sides.

I did the same with Awaken The Dreamers, I don't know that album very well but what I've heard of it isn't bad but it just slipped past me.

TIWIE is a bit like TPoE mixed with ATD. They have TPoE's format and most of its power and urgency but fused with ATD's technical and melodic guitar work. Best of both world's really, the only problem is, it dilutes its intensity somewhat (compared to Price). So don't expect the ballsack-popping intensity of TPoE, but still, it is quite good. I don't spin it much these days but when it came out I did buy it and I know I spun it a damn lot.

Just found this interview while trying to make ASP's MS page fully up to date, it explains a lot about why Awaken the Dreamers was such a disappointment.

And all their fans are butthurt that their dumbfuck ex-vocalist has been replaced. So no albums will be sold on iTunes, and then the band will finally give up.

Wow, that's a great interview. I especially liked the questions regarding their genre and the such and I think the ASP guys' answer was really spot on too.

And yeah, TIWIE does not suffer from that kind of problems for sure.
I'd be interested to hear what you think of it if you indeed go around listening to it .

Agreed on whole statement about quality of the interview!

And I actually acquired the album earlier today, and plan to check it out during my lunch break at work today. Their answer regarding their intention when they wrote it, and that they feel they hit the mark after the fact makes me a bit excited too.

For the sake of not being off topic here anymore, I have responded to this interest on the album's thread.
