Symphony X - New Song Online, Lyric Video
Symphony X have another new song for you today! The New Jersey proggers released a digital single today called "Without You". The track will appear on their upcoming album, Underworld (out on July 24th via Nuclear Blast Records), and is also the second one you get to hear from the release so far. The band shows off their more melodic side on this one. Give it a spin below!

Guitarist Michael Romeo comments on it: "'Without You' is a bit mellower than the first single, 'Nevermore', with a big chorus and a sweeping feel. I don't know if I would call the track a ballad, but it's a little bit softer, not so much about riff, but more the acoustic and electric interplay. Those two are good single choices, if you will, because they represent what the record is: it's heavy, but at the same time, there are some of these soaring melodic parts."

I like it but this is not something i'd expect from SX... I still hope the rest of the album will somewhat reflect their earlier materials.

This was rather pleasant. A step more in this direction away from the perhaps overly heavy tone of Iconoclast would make me happy. Been a long time since I was really into SymX but based on the two songs released so far it will likely be an enjoyable release.

Sounds like they have tried to combine their current heavier sound with hooks and tricks from older albums. Those acoustic guitar parts sound familiar, I hope the rest of the album contains more of those contrasts. It's pretty good, but I think they can do better. Their last album had less appeal to me, since I found the overall sound too monotoneus and bombastic. I think it's silly to say that they must return to their older sound, but I hope they continue to challenge themselves to develop their sound and bag of tricks.

Ugh, very watered down. Almost reminds me of a modern country song with a SX solo tacked on. Their past ballads at least built up to something worthwhile.

I have to say that I don't like where this is going so far. They are trying to show variety, here we have a heavier song and then more ballady stuff. It's just not sounding very inspired.

Well, this year HAS been too good, so much great music, there was bound to be a lemon sooner or later. This is shaping up to be the first Symphony X album I won't be pre-ordering, maybe even not buying at all. God bless Spotify...
