I never understood European possession about Dubai, and that region, no mater how much oil you have, money you have, no matter if you watch Chelsea games and Champions Leuage, you're not in Europe .. but same shit happened in Russia where orthodoxians did same to few bands... to me Dubai don't exist , never wanna go there...same time deady and rupsy was right in small part, but like I said religion is equal, its all religion problems, IMO EU must ban it and we need hope it will weed out

I know, like I said, in Europe it can not happen, unless its our rapsy beloveth country where Patriach rules ... here church just blabber...I like it. From what I understand, the authorities probably had very little to do with it. The venue mentioned that a competitor had filed the complaint, and the authorities probably had a look, saw devil worshipping, and just cancelled the show there and then.

Sounds more like dubious business practices taking advantage of draconian laws.

Hmm, this is interesting to note, actually. I can't tell since I don't live there, but would you mind elaborating more upon this rivalry you mentioned? It would actually clear a lot of things up for me if this extreme religious censorship was merely a scapegoat for shady business tactics.

There has been long running petty squabbles between rival promoters here over the years, with them often competing against each other rather than supporting each other. It used to be a quite common occurrence to have one promoter book and announce an event only for a rival promoter to go and book another event on the exact same night to purposefully clash & ruin the attendance for their rival etc. I have to say the guys behind Metal East Records are a great bunch who never got themselves involved in these petty politics but for whatever reason have now become a target themselves, presumably because they are the only promoters around now who are consistently trying to bring international quality bands to the region.

Regarding the censorship thing, this event was originally approved by the government, as was the Vader & Aborted gigs before they got banned. In all three cases the government explained to the promoters the reason for the ban is because they have received complaints from a 'concerned member of the public' that these events are devil worshipping etc. If the government felt that strongly about these accusations they would ban the promoters from organizing future events or stop these bands entering the country, which has never happened (even this event will now be attended by Swallow The Sun as guests - they just can't play). IT's just they would rather not bother themselves looking too deeply into the nature of the 'complaints' and take the easy option which is to swing the ban hammer.

Totally Agree with you .. i was in Insomnium Gig in Duabi with the same organizers and the same place less than a month ago and the event went with no problems at all .. it is the matter of laziness of the authorities in the deep investigations of the complaints which was probably because of a commercial competition somehow . the event was done yesterday with Swallow the Sun band members as a guests of honor in the same place in Dubai .. anyway it is a shame to ban musicians to play because of total fake reasons
