Alright, I may be the one who put this news article up, but this song is fucking awful. I'm sorry, I had to say it straight up. The production and guitar tone are horrendous and takes away a lot of the potential heaviness compared to Desolation of Eden. It's not heavy here, it's just noisy, and not even in a good way. Alex's vocals have got seriously bad over time, years of improper technique have fucked up his vocals beyond belief.

I didn't even get into the lyrics. Chelsea Grin have always had pretty bad lyrics (although Ashes To Ashes significantly less so) but they managed to outdo Attila on bad lyrics. Yes, the band known for gems like "Suck my fuck", "You can do whatever you want, just don't be a fucking bitch", and "If you hate gay people you should get your ass beat. You're a close minded faggot bitch kiss my feet." That is an achievement on its own, and I'm not sure whether the band should get applauded or shit on for managing to find a way to go THAT low. From Skin Deep was "FATHER FORGIVE ME FOR I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK", then Clickbait had "AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT YOU CAN PUBLISH THIS DICK", and now we have "AND I'M NOT FUCKING THAT BITCH ANYMORE". Attila aren't serious. 0-0-0-0-0-0-0 Grin are.

Skin Deep was an alright song, but these last two singles have been pretty awful. The album is not looking very good. It's a shame, I liked all of their albums, and Evolve had its moments. My first ever database addition was this album, and my first ever news post was this. Just like how good ol' Tanner's first review was Desolation Of Eden. Chelsea Grin sure holds a lot of firsts on this website.

For me, this band became shit immediately after their self titled EP. It was decently heavy and I liked the vocal range. Everything after has been nothing but a disappointment. Doesn't surprise me much that they haven't made any improvements but this is also coming from someone who's not the biggest fan of "typical" angsty metalcore.

Ashes To Ashes was actually very good IMO. It had a lot going for it and significantly reduced the tropes they created in the past (breakdowns and breakdowns and breakdowns and Alex hating women and breakdowns) while still avoiding the massive cringeworthy missteps that were present on Evolve. It was just a little bit too long (considering it's a 58 minute deathcore album, pretty impressive) and still had a little too much chugging and breakdowns but otherwise I can't really see very many problems with it. It was the best thing they ever made, and a contender for deathcore album of the year 2014.

I also don't like the standard angsty metalcore/deathcore. That's why my deathcore list is titled in such a condescending way to the genre, because let's face it, there are a lot of crap albums in that style. And my list has no Suicide Silence, Winds of Plague, Emmure, or Annotations Of An Autopsy on it. Chelsea Grin's debut wasn't way too different from those bands, but it was heavy enough that I viewed it as an enjoyable novelty. Their second album wasn't very good. It lost a lot of the over-the-top heaviness without gaining very much. Evolve I have to respect them for trying something completely different, even if it wasn't very good outside of maybe "Lilith". And then I may be biased due to being a huge fan of Jason Richardson's guitar work but he made Ashes To Ashes good. After he left due to creative differences I knew what would happen, and boom. These past three songs.

I honestly haven't kept up with them. Have just checked in here and there to see if they've produced anything I liked. After seeing this thread I checked out some stuff on Youtube and I'm still not sold.

Their EP was definitely nothing special but as you've accurately put, it was an enjoyable novelty. Didn't get the same feeling from their later work. That said, I have very strange taste sometimes. It can be the weirdest little details that make me like or not like a band.
