Metal Storm Awards 2019 - Voting Is Closed

February is now gone and the Metal Storm Awards for the year 2019 are officially over. We put a lot of effort for these and we were compensated by all of you with the biggest participation we've had in recent years. We saw categories exceeding or coming very close to 1,000 votes, which makes us happy and proud and gives us motivation to try even harder next year.

As we always say, metalheads finding new bands and bands gaining new fans are the real winners. Congratulations to those who took the time to check out the lesser-known acts, voting is now closed but you can still keep on listening while we begin preparing the 2020 Awards.

Check out the results over here and comment below. And remember to keep it civil.

We have to admit our mistake in nominating Belzebubs for Best Debut.

We didn't realize that they also released Quis Novit Daemonis Astus in 2006 and Moth Of Satanas in 2009.

My 5 picks got to be the winner. All well-deserved one.

Great to see that huge turnout and quite frankly, in this edition, people voted for quality content. And boy, look at incoming traffic in the most abused category - Melodeath.

In that case its band fault

Nope.
It's the fault of people being unable to distinguish between reality ("the long-awaited Belzebubs debut") and obvious fiction based on a webcomic.

There were three pleasant surprises for this year, which is more than usual: Sunn O))) taking Ambiandronoise over Ulver, BAN taking Meloblack over Beelzebubs, and Full Of Hell taking Grindcore over Exhumed. The latter two were definitely the most deserving of their respective categories. I wouldn't say the same for Sunn O))), but I went into the vote thinking Ulver would totally sweep that category, so it was nice to be proven wrong.

Death metal was a pretty fierce battle between Blood Incantation and Cattle Decap. 'Twas rooting for and cast my vote for the former, and they were indeed ahead by a few votes at several points throughout, but in the end Death Atlas held onto the throne.

Anyone who's seen me express my thoughts regarding Mgla on here can probably surmise how I feel about the black metal vote result.

Other than those five cats I can't say I'm really that invested in any of the results. Good year as usual. If you discovered anything new through the Awards, props to you, because that's what really matters most in all of this.

I've heard about Hidden History of the Human Race before, but haven't managed to listen to it until Awards. And fell in love with it immediately, which resulted in tossing the vote for them. Too bad that they lose it the end, but Death Atlas is a solid album, so no harm done here I guess.

Not at all.
Thanks to the write-in votes, we have a top 12 of doom now and a bunch of rather unknown bands obtained a well-deserved spot and gained some recognition. Coming 8th out of 12 isn't too bad of a result for Swallow The Sun either, considering that When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light is currently rated as the third least appreciated album of the band's career thus far.

29 write-in votes count as 290 regular votes?
Okay, deal.
But then these 45 misplaced write-in votes for StS (power, sludge, extreme progressive, etc.) will count as 450 votes. That's 450 "fans" who don't even have a rough idea of the kind of music their most favorite band is actually playing.

I believe that this is the only cause for concern in regard of Swallow The Sun, their fans and the Awards.

As far as the sludge and power metal write-ins are concerned I'd prefer the good ol' fashioned practice of public naming and shaming.

Or just fans who love Swallow The Cum* so much they spam them in any conceivable category. And lols as counting 10 times... the last several years 30-40% of my ballot is write-ins.

When did they plaid blavk metal, it has maybe BL feeling because band is from Norway, and cold winter landscape in album, but listen it its not black metal, its progressive, progressive means being above stereotypical prog DT sound
