Well, the orchestral work seems pretty good (from what I've seen on the video blogs)...as long as they don't have any of that bloody stop-start riffing that was so prevalent on Once, it will be a very good album (I hope!).

I'm curious to see. This album is probably going to be worse than the last one. You know what happens to a lot of great bands once they hit Road Runner Records... They go straight down the tube because usually once on Road Runner, they have to do exactly as what they want them to produce. Also, a lot of bands on Road Runner usually get the material written for them. So to be honest, I'm not too stoked about this new CD. However, we shall see. Also Marco needs to just stop singing, he ruined a lot of good songs... Sorry, but his voice is just as bad as Toby's from Edguy. I'm sorry, but a nasally sounding voice was never appealing to me. Oh, and Tuomas is nothing special. He can compose greatly and all. But he doesn't even play most of it live. ALSO, you don't have to play it to record it when it comes to the keys. You can write it out on various midi enabled programs and just transfer it to a keyboard. Don't get me wrong. I still like Nightwish, but all the hype the members get is a little ridiculous. Joost Van Den Broek is a very skilled and much younger pianist/keyboardist than Tuomas. --Mike

Can't wait to hear the new album, it will be awesome. I loved Once. There are an ocean full of power metal bands, but very few that play bombastic film-score metal with an orchestra. I like the new direction the band is taking.

I, among with most fans probably, want a return to operatic vocals and power metal orientated gutiar and drumming, but the continued use of the orchestra, choir, long songs and more serious lyrics. NO BLOODY TCHNO BEATS THIS TIME. I like Marco's voice but it's the wrong style of music for him. Written by Doc G. on 17.01.2007 at 17:17 Rather high headed for a glam fan, 'omg they have a female singer, gay classical music and sing about emotions and elves' I'm yet to hear a genuine musical reason from someone like you why a band is bad. Sure Joost is more talented than Tuomas, Floor is a stronger singer than Tarja too, but After Forever don't have have the boundless romantic atmosphere and emotion that marks Nightwish out. If it was about technical talent I'd jsut be listening to Nitro.

I hate to see how a good band turned into a fucking pure comercia band, listen when any band that doesnt have as much money involved needs a new singer they take about 1 maybe 2 months to get a new one. But noooo thats not Nightwish's case, they need a fucking year and then 6 months to decide who they're gonna pick to START recording the vocals, they cant just contract a season singer, because they are way to important for that. Screw Nightwish, everyone can see that the new album is going to suck. Oh yeah there is a song about a "dead" girl who happens to be Tarja in a metaphoric way, what a coincidence... One more thing, Im also pretty sure that they are going to record one or two albums with this new singer, and then will kick her out of the band, and Nightwish will slowly die, because the other band members will see that mr Toumas is the problem, but Nightwish cant exist with Mr pimpass Thoumas, SCREW THAT. I just hope that Tarot be more famous. As you all can see Im pissed with Nightwish

18.01.2007 - 01:48 Written by [user id=5431] on 18.01.2007 at 00:28 ... Did you notice on the CD Once, Tarja was limited along with Emmpu? That's due to them being with Road Runner. That company tells bands what to do and they do it. The main reason bands join that record label is for money and popularity... Also, my point was not really for the more talented or more technical band. It's just because Tuomas takes most of the money and has over popularity. Really, he's not that great. I mean, look at Leaves' Eyes. Alexander Krull writes all of it. Sure, Tuomas writes the music, but so do a lot of other people in other bands and it's still fair. Tarja won an award for her voice, but he took the reward since he wrote the lyrics. But it wasn't even about the lyrics, it was about her voice... Everyone has made Tarja out to be quite a horrible person, but really, it was moreso Tuomas just being an ass. Sure, she wanted to hang out with her husband. But she devoted 110% to Nightwish still. Nightwish was her passion and she even has stated that in a few interviews. She wasn't what many people make her out to be. How could you even go about kicking her out the way they did? That was so... Inhumane. So there, I rest my case.

Hmm, I don't know about Nightwish being more commercial. Once had long progressive songs like GLS and CMB, record companies tend to like short songs. But I will admit that Wish I had an Angel is a fucken terrible song. Holy shit.

@Lord Grim: Yes because Opeth's 'Ghost Reveries' was such a shit, commercial album, just because they moved to Roadrunner. I actually used to have the same misgivings about bands moving to Roadrunner, but look, it's not the end of the world. Opeth proved that the label doesn't write the music, and I'm sure Nightwish are good enough to break the shackles and do the same. I agree with you on the point that Tuomas probably needs to take as much of the blame as Tarja for what happened though. 'Once', for all it's flaws, did contain some of Nightwish's best moments. 'Ghost Love Score', anyone? I hope they keep the good elements, but at the same time, be more Power Metally again. I don't think the new singer will change the music that much. But we all know that Tuomas will do what he thinks is best, seeing as this is HIS band...

Humm... I don't think that moving to Roadrunner will change the band.. I trust Tuomas to keep doing the great job and I don't believe the label is going to tell a band like Nightwish what to do, as they didn't with Opeth. I guess there's only one thing to do: wait to see the results.. but I'm not worried

18.01.2007 - 05:59 Written by Judas on 18.01.2007 at 04:04 Ghost Love Score is such a good song, HOWEVER, its not something that you wanna hear every album, I dont know if its only me but Nightwish lost all of its "power" in exchange for generic EMOish lyrics, that true fans cant stand for that long, I do like Nightwish (well atlast before "Century Child" if tho it has a hand full of good songs) but Once can not get more comercial then that. Does anybody still remember Kinslayer? She is my sin? even Elvenpath, in my opnion the first 2 cds are the best (YES, Angel fall First) but I dont think Nightwish willl be able to make anymore good albums no metter howmany line-up changes they have (only if Thoumas is gone, and Tarja is back)

18.01.2007 - 06:08 Written by 4look4rd on 18.01.2007 at 00:35 1. Honestly, as if it matters how they go about getting a new singer. Recording a session (that's what you meant, right?) singer would be idiotic. 2. Having a song about a 'dead girl' is hardly new for Nightwish - all of their songs are about dead lovers, forgotten swans and other such junk. The fact that it can be so closely tied to Tarja's departure means nothing, and certainly doesn't mean that the song/album will be crap. 3. Tuomas may be the problem, but the fact remains that HE is the band. No Tuomas, no Nightwish. Am I the only person who gets annoyed with speculation concerning Tarja's departure? Seriously, it's not like any of us were there, or are privvy to any inside information. Whatever, I'm over this band.

I thought Nightwish were'nt even signed to Road Runner anymore. And who cares who the new singer will be. No expectations lead to no disappointments. And the guys aren't retards; no matter what happens they'll have the band + fans best interest at heart. Once wasn't such a bad album. Every band needs their experimental phase. Hopefully they'll come out better from it. People here are too critical of bands.

I've seen on a magazine that Nightwish actually has chosen two female vocalists and one male, or one female and one male, i cant remember well... maybe they're which Nightwish prefer most... but i think Nightwish wont ever have the same fans it had. It wont be ever the same, even with another female vocalist

Account deleted Written by Lord Grim on 18.01.2007 at 01:48 He doesn't jsut write the lyrics he writes all the music which is why he owns the songs as he created them. Marco whenb writing makes Tarot, Tarja likes pop, Emppu doesn't seemt he writing type and Jukka likes Linkin Park. If the other band members wanted to write music they would but they're intereste din playing, Tuoams writes everything and he is the one who is behind it all. You can play exceptionaly well and be shit (Nitro), or you can write fantastic music with little talent and still be brilliant (Burzum - Dunkelheit). Sure Tuomas sounds like a pretentious ungrateful person who cacn't handle people (he kicked out Sami and Tarja by phone/letter, which imo is cowardly)., but his songwriting is the main reason for their success, an artist should be remembered for their art not their personalities (I sure as anytihng don't agree with Jon Schaffer or Varg Vikernes). As I said there are many better metal singers than Tarja but few more heartfelt composers. The thing aobut Roadrunner, where did you hear it? I can believe they made them drop the power metal solos and operatic vocals, but it had already started on Century Child and I thought it was the band selling out by themselves?

And I agree with you, even with another female vocalist... alot of Nightwish's identity and image was Tarja and she cant be raplaced. It'll be almost like a new band, so thats why im not going to compare who they've chosen as the new vocalist to Tarja.
