Insomnium - Unveil 'The Reticent' Single

Insomnium are excited to present you a brand new stand-alone single, "The Reticent". The accompanying official video clip was directed by renowned videographer Vesa Ranta.

Guitarist/vocalist Ville Friman comments: "The past year has been a difficult one. People have lost their loved ones, jobs and livelihoods. Hope has been replaced by fear, anxiety and uncertainty. We have all been forced to live our lives in isolation, detached both physically and mentally. This song is about all those feelings. An inner dialogue of hope and hopelessness. During this time, music has been a source of comfort and solace. Something to rely on and return to. And while we have become withdrawn and reticent, our music tolls now ever stronger."

Not really a fan of Jani's vocals here but the song itself is very emotional and strong. Got "One for sorrow" vibes to it.

The song is emotionally beautiful and good, nothing impressive and it doesn't have to be for a stand-alone single, but a full album with tracks on this vibe and I'll probably sleep after 2 or 3 ones.

Good one, I like direction to calm vocals. Nordeners can put deep cold emotions in such way

It's cool to see some people like it !

On my part, unpopular opinion, but hey... we all have different tastes!
To me, this song is even more disappointing than The Conjurer. Maybe this album is the transition album to a new sound, although I thought Heart like a grave was the transition album.

I used to be fan of Jani with is other projects, but I feel his influence is killing the band. He's nowhere near as good as Friman on cleans. I don't know how much he's involved in the writing process since his arrival, but I feel the incredible melodic parts that made the trademark of the band from Above the Weeping World to Shadows of the Dying Sun are mostly gone on this song and Conjurer. We are stuck in a very flat kind of slow-to-mid tempo and the keyboards sound cheezy AF.

That being said, I'll definitely go see them live when it is possible again! Cheers

Agreed, only this feels to me like a One for Sorrow b-side or demo, as if it's the basis for a more fleshed out song but never builds on the initial idea any further.

This band really caught me with "Shadows of the Dying Sun," and then kind of failed to ever repeat that magic again (and none of their previous albums do much for me, either). A shame... one-hit wonder for my tastes, I guess.

But this so-called demo still gets some recognition from most (I am afraid) fans. If I had listened something like this when I first checked Insomnium back in 00s I would never had concerned myself with them.

To sum up, the new track sucks.
