Okay song, not their best, especially when compared to the singles from the previous record. The chorus just doesn't do it for me this time. Still hyped for the album though.

This is a very Amorphis sounding song... which is overall a good thing, since it tells me they won't be drastically changing their style.

With that said, the track itself is nothing special by Amorphis standards. It feels oddly stripped down, and the melodies feel like leftovers. Still, though, not bad, and enough to make me interested in the rest of the album.

I must admit this is a bit dissapointing. Sounds more like an Amporphis cover band than amorphis itsel

Its OK, but then again it sounds as band sounds in last few albums, same direction, they could change something , as re write own sound, so thats why to me this might be a bit boring.

It is a very typical Amorphis single. A simple, but beautiful atmospheric piano intro followed by basic or mediocre riffs and melodies, leading into a catchy chorus that doesn't quite deliver on the intro's or prechorus' promise. The last time one of their singles actually made me check out the album was with Under The Red Cloud back in 2015. I hope the album has on average better material than this, for the sake of their many fans.

Thats really not a good sign for the rest of the record. Ugh.
This sounds like they are moving away from the greatness of the 2 most recent albums and going back to Eclipse cringe.

Eclipse was an album what have band second life, when Joutsen came, because all from Tuonela to Eclipse was bad, but now this might be a album what kills a band.

Yes, its true, but I personally didnt like a single album from "Eclipse" to "Circle". Then came "Under The Red Cloud" and "Queen of Time" which were both FIRE.
The first track on "Silent Waters" from 2007 called "Weaving the Incantation" is pretty much the only track I liked by them until Under the Red Cloud album.

Personally, this new The Moon track sounds like they are going back to a softer sound again, which I do not like. At all.
Them getting pushed to go in a more aggressive direction in that Swedish studio during Under The Red Cloud is what really improved them, in my opinion.

To me all from Tuonela to silent Watters was bad, then Tomi saved the band, now seems they are getting old, or they simply used free corona time, whit out motivation.

But Silent Waters was also with Tomi and it was terrible (except for Weaving the Incantation).

I really don't hear much difference between all albums from Eclipse onwards. Their back catalog is very dynamic ranging from melodic death metal to folk and electronica. They even had that hideous pop rock abortion called Far From the Sun. But after Eclipse all albums are consistent with very slight variation. Every record has "folkier" songs, more melodic stripped down songs and heavier songs. So i really don't get liking Queen of Time and not liking Skyforger for example, since they are similar albums. Someone may not like the songs themselves, but to say Under the Red Cloud and Queen of Time are different from Eclipse, Skyforger and so on, for me, is non sense.

As for this new song, i have to say that yes it's a typical Amorphis song, but it's also the least compelling single they've release since, ironically, Eclipse. Still, one of my fav bands and i'm eager to listen to the whole album.

Good song, but a proper guitar solo would have elevated the song a lot

The song is somewhat catchy and enjoyable, but doesn't hold up so far to either Queen of Time or Under the Red Cloud.

It's catchy and good, but sounds like some kind of a variation of Sacrifice from UTRC.

Songs with no harsh vocals (lead), Joutsen albums:
Eclipse: 6
Silent Waters: 7
Skyforger: 5
The Beginning of Times: 4
Circle: 6
Under the Red Cloud: 1
Queen of Time: 1

Average track length, Joutsen albums (approximate):
Eclipse: 4:11
Silent Waters: 4:40
Skyforger: 4:46
The Beginning of Times: 4:33
Circle: 5:09
Under the Red Cloud: 5:00
Queen of Time: 5:44

The average Queen of Time song is at least a minute longer than on the albums they self-produced. There are also musical aspects on UTRC and QOT that simply weren't a thing before, especially notable in drumming.

So your gripe with Eclipse and Silent Waters in not having enough growls despite having several very heavy songs? Ok, to each their own.
Not having more growls automatically makes an album be more varied? Ok then.
Average track length is really an issue for you? So many variants in that: number of tracks, intros, interludes, 6 minutes songs and 3 minutes songs in the same album... so on and so forth.
That's all being extremely nitpicky, but yeah whatever rocks your boat.

It's not a gripe for me at all, I think Eclipse is at least as good as Queen of Time, for example. However, the fact that only one song on each of the last two is virtually devoid of growls is an indicator that something is likely different; if we compared the total proportions of growls vs. cleans, the overall shift between the last two and other Joutsen records would be even more obvious. Majority of the songs on these albums are quite heavy in comparison, not just a few in the mix.

Quote:

None of the albums in question have any intro or interlude tracks, and most of them also have 10 tracks each, bar the two exceptions. The difference between Queen of Time and the first four albums comes almost entirely from song structures and arrangement, they simply have more things going on to them.

Quote:

Extremely? Defnitely not. I'd go as far as saying the previous Joutsen albums aren't even the spiritual comparison point for most of UTRC. It's Elegy.
