Graspop 2007 - 8 New Names

LINE-UP IS SHAPING UP: 47 NAMES SO FAR!!

8 New Names: VELVET REVOLVER, PAPA ROACH, STONE SOUR, MASTODON, LESS THAN JAKE, LAUREN HARRIS, CHRIS CORNELL and HAMMERFALL.

The line-up for the 2007 edition of Graspop Metal Meeting is definitely shaping up! These are the newcomers: VELVET REVOLVER, PAPA ROACH, STONE SOUR, MASTODON, LESS THAN JAKE, LAUREN HARRIS, CHRIS CORNELL and HAMMERFALL. Just nine more names to go for the main stage and the two marquees.
But there's more! The entire programme for the revamped Metal Dome has yet to be compiled. A total of fifteen bands will be taking the stage in the Metal Dome and we will have those names for you shortly.

Nu-metal band PAPA ROACH has been confirmed for Friday. Like so many other bands, Papa Roach has its roots in high school. Back in 1993, lead singer Jacoby Shaddix and drummer Dave Buckner ran into each other at school and founded Papa Roach. They had to wait until 2000 for their major breakthrough with the release of their triple-platinum album 'Infest'. Tracks such as "Last Resort" and "Broken Home" became instant hits. Late last year, the nu-metalheads released their fourth record with 'The Paramour Sessions', or how young boys grow up. This will be their second appearance at Graspop.

CHRIS CORNELL will also play a set on Friday. The former Soundgarden frontman, who announced the split of his band Audioslave in February, will be introducing his latest project to the Graspop audience. Cornell was responsible for 'You Know My Name', the title track to the new James Bond movie 'Casino Royale'. The song will be included on his new solo album Carry On together with a cover of Micheal Jackson's 'Billie Jean'. The album's release is scheduled for 1 May 2007.

Slipknotter Corey Taylor and his band STONE SOUR are programmed for Saturday. The band was formed as early as 1992 by Corey and ertwhile drummer Joel Ekman. However, it took ten years for Stone Sour to start off with silver for their self-entitled debut. The sound is nothing like we're used to hearing from Corey and his Slipknot posse, but metal crowds immediately embraced the new band. Their second full-length effort, 'Come What(ever) May', was equally successful.

LAUREN HARRIS and LESS THAN JAKE have been added to the bill on Saturday.

Last year we had Axl Rose, this year his ex-Guns 'n Roses friends Slash (guitar), Matt Sorum (drums) and Duff McKagan (bass) will terrorise the masses on Sunday with their super band VELVET REVOLVER. The threesome already convinced the festival crowds of both Rock Werchter and Pukkelpop and things are looking even better since singer Scott Weiland (ex-Stone Temple Pilots) and guitarist Dave Kushner (ex-Wasted Youth & ex-Dave Navarro) joined the band. In 2004, their debut 'Contraband' conquered the world. Successor 'Libertad' is scheduled for a June release.

Also on Sunday: HAMMERFALL and MASTODON. The latter is part of the new wave of modern American bands. Formed in 1999, the Atlanta quartet took the international metal scene by storm. Their music is a mix of thrash, doom, prog and the occasional splash of hardcore. Their third and most recent full-length CD 'Blood Mountain' was released in September of last year to universal critical acclaim. Mastodon were even nominated in the category 'Best Metal Performance'at the 49th Grammy Awards ceremony for their track "Colony of Birchmen". Last year, Mastodon filled the support slot for Tool on their trek through the European continent's major metal arenas.

Nothing special here... (and one big shit... Papa Roach...)

Well, they will have to add better bands for the end of the line up...

Mastodon, Lauren Harris and Papa Roach (!) are "special guests" on the Iron Maiden tour, so no surprises here. The fourth "special guest" would be In Flames, so I could imagine them being added to the GMM lineup as well.

haha - do they leave the worst bands to announce until last?
come on.. if I was going to pay so much money for a festival I wouldnt want to have to endure some of them on stage. Velvet Revolver annoy me and Papa Roach is something I really wouldnt imagine to be at sucha a big festival..
Less Than Jake are one of the most annoying sounding things ever!!!

this has made me wonder whether I will put so much effort into going or not..

ha ha !!!people can actually be disappointed with this kinda line-ups.i guess its the result of being able to see every band many times during their lives and they have many festivals to choose from...

New bands are disappointing (apart from Hammerfall. VR are tolerable but not something I'd expect to see live).

Still, the other bands announced have me sold.

hammerfall is a good add, lauren harris is an -ish add. alongside the other 6 announced, (and including lauren harris) isn't this supposed to be a metal meeting? it seems more like the ozzfest rejects list.

Looking at the total line-up I am thinking of not going and instead on concentrating of trying to go to Hellfest and Wacken.

I think that I will go to the Hellfest for sure now... The Headliners of GMM are really cool, and I really wanted to see Heaven and Hell, but the "other" bands are not so cool and in the end, the Hellfest is better.

Marcel, you'll have to find a way to come with us in France
