Metal Storm - Mission Statement Now Online

After a lengthy drafting period filled with much consideration and rewriting, the Metal Storm staff are pleased to announce the publication of Metal Storm’s mission statement, a summation of our values and purpose.

When we relaunched Metal Storm three years ago, we had several goals in mind. One goal, of course, was to make the site functional: fixing broken features, adding new ones, actually guaranteeing consistent access to the site, etc. This process has been ongoing ever since, as you’ve seen from our waves of updates and tests. But the idea of Metal Storm extends beyond its code, and we have been working toward another means of making the site a better place to be.

As part of our renewal, we felt that we needed something to explain Metal Storm’s governing principles. We wanted a tangible document of our business and moderating philosophies, something that would be visible all around the site for longtime users and new visitors alike to understand how we operate. It’s a mixture of goals for ourselves and guidelines for our community. You can read the full text and see for yourself what exactly it entails; suffice it to say that this is important to us and we have been working on it for a long while. Metal Storm is not just a database, but a community, and we want to be a positive force in metal. This statement espouses the integrity with which we approach our work here.

What you see on that page is the product of much work and revision and we’re quite happy with it, but we also view it as being subject to evolution. Times change, our community grows, our needs fluctuate, and so our mission statement, too, will be adapted as we see fit to encapsulate our vision for Metal Storm.

For now, hop over and give it a look. We hope you appreciate it and will help us make Metal Storm an honest, accepting, and fun place to be.

I suggest discussing the mission statement in a dedicated thread that will be more long-lived than this news piece. We are looking forward to your feedback.
