Benighted - Part Ways With Drummer Kevin Paradis

French extreme metal maniacs Benighted have parted ways with drummer Kévin Paradis. He was part of the band since 2017. The band is now in search of a permanent replacement.

Statement from the band as follows: "After 7 years playing together, we always knew that Kevin and the rest of the band had different ambitions in music. After his recent experience with Ne Obliviscaris and his applying for Archspire, it appeared that it was too difficult for Benighted to have a drummer that might leave for other opportunities in a short notice.

"We are now searching for a new full-time drummer who's at the same time fast, tight and of course fully available to open the new chapter of the Benighted history! Contact us here: benighted.audition@gmail.com.

"Of course, there is no bad blood between us and Kevin will ensure all the upcoming gigs while we look for a new drummer. We wish our Kevin all the best for the future, we really want to thank him for everything he brought to Benighted during this amazing time, we love you man! To all bands who might be interested in playing with this incredible drummer, please contact him: Contact@kevinparadisdrumming.com.

"Thank you all for your support."

It sounds to me like Benighted guys didn't like the thought of Kevin being involved with other bands, which sounds like a big BS, since the guy is free to apply for whatever he wants. I wish him the best of luck with Archspire! He is the perfect fit! He has it all!

I haven't read nor heard that. He said on the Youtube video that he had applied fot the job and did the audition. And of course he can't give informations in advance. The audition outcome is yet to be known.
He is the most capable guy from the lot of people who did the same audition. He is the obvious choice. And how convenient it is for him to be free right now?
This is just like the process involving Eloy Casagrande and his admittance in Slipknot. Remember how he quit Sepultura just before he got in Slipknot?

I read that more like a business decision than a personal one. You can only be on tour with one band at a time, and having a contract with three bands would make it harder for each to make use of him. Pretty understandable decision from that point of view, actually.

In the context of running the band like a business this is a pure risk management decision at a time when the tenure is of considerable length and, as stated, differing ambitions.

I.

He didn't say it in the video, he commented it. Quote: "So the answer is no, Archspire isn't giving me the job and I am now a drummer to hire."

Well I guess it must have been something logistical or financial, cause Kevin is a total beast on drums and seemingly also handling both the rejection from Archspire and the firing from Benighted very professionally, which is not something you can say about most high-caliber musicians. It seemed like everyone stood behind the guy just waiting on the band to announce it. Honestly sucks it ended this way.
