Been spinning this over and over again.
Sometimes I feel like there is something wrong with the current atmoblack scene, I listen to the bands and I don't get more much of the same feeling I used to get when I used to be more into it. And I was never sure whether the genre was really stagnating or it was just me changing my taste. However I do keep going back to the atmoblack bands whose albums I listened to a lot of times, all of which date pre 2010 or so, and when I listen to them it just feels different. Again I was never sure... Is it nostalgia value? Are the older bands really that superior?
And now Drudkh, one of the most well known and consolidated bands on the genre comes up and brings... This.
This is a new track, however it hits just so different than what the newer bands have to offer. So I think it's not about nostalgia value or anything like that, the good bands just... feel different. In the end it seems it's all about good songwriting. How can it be? It's just a silly keyboard thrown in all over the mix that steals the melody, yet it feels just so... perfect. I don't get the same thing listening to newer bands.
