Lechuga - Drop 'Fret Not' Single
Chilean musician Benjamín Lechuga has just released a brand new single titled "Fret Not", accompanied by a music video. This is the first new material since the 2021 EP It's Not What It Seems. This song features the collaboration of musicians Chase Bryant on bass and Cristóbal Orozco on drums. It has been written, produced and recorded by Bejamín Lechuga in Los Angeles, California. The drums have been recorded in C.O. Drumlab Labs by Pancho Arenas and the mixing and mastering has also been the work of Benjamín Lechuga.
Benjamín Lechuga comments:
"Let the fretless era begin.
"All the proceeds from my new single FRET NOT on Bandcamp during January will be donated to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. This organization provides critical resources and support to the brave firefighters and first responders who risk their lives to protect our communities, especially during devastating wildfires. By purchasing the track, you’re not just supporting my music—you’re directly contributing to the efforts of those on the front lines. Let’s come together to make a difference and show our gratitude to the heroes who keep us safe.
"This is more than a single—it’s a turning point in my journey as an artist. FRET NOT is the sound of evolution, experimentation, and discovery. This release marks a shift in my style, pushing boundaries and diving headfirst into the world of fretless guitars.
"So, how did I end up here? Let me tell you a story.
"It all started with me wanting a simple Strat-style guitar. I found this cheap one on Reverb.com—thought, “Hey, tone comes from the fingers, right? You don’t need an expensive guitar to sound good.” When it arrived, I was excited; it looked great! But… wow. It sucked. It wouldn’t stay in tune, the pickups were garbage, and playing it was just not enjoyable.
"I figured I’d sell it, but no one cared about a no-brand, random guitar. So, I thought, “Why not experiment a little?” I grabbed some tools and started pulling out the frets and I even carved my logo with a dremel. Not gonna lie, it was chaotic at first, but when I played it? Something clicked. That unique, singing tone. The smoothness of the fretless neck. It was like discovering a whole new language. I was hooked.
"Once my DIY fretless experiment was completed—I posted a few video covers, and to my surprise, Ernie Ball took notice, showing interest in sharing my content. That moment sparked a journey I never expected.
"Fast forward, and I teamed up with Aristides Guitars to design a custom seven-string fretless with a stainless steel board. The result? Absolutely astonishing. It’s not just a guitar—it’s a new career path, a calling. And now, that sound, that feeling, is captured in FRET NOT.
"The video, recorded in Los Angeles, was brought to life by director Michael Levine, with incredible camera work and photography by Austin Scherzberg. Chase Bryant laid down the bass, while the drums for the song were recorded by Cristobal Orozco—though it’s Reuben Gingrich who appears in the video."
