Gojira - Win Grammy Award For 'Best Metal Performance'
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, held on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, saw French metal band Gojira receive a Grammy in the Best Metal Performance category for their track "Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)". This is the first time Gojira has won a Grammy, after being nominated three times in the past.
The French Revolution-era song was performed at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on July 26, 2024. Co-composed with Victor Le Masne, the musical director for the games, the track featured French-Swiss mezzo-soprano opera singer Marina Viotti, who also performed at the event, alongside nearly 300 classical musicians. The elaborate performance, rich in France’s revolutionary history and marked by macabre imagery—including a beheaded Marie Antoinette—provoked global controversy.
