I'm suprised this hasn't been made yet... Founded in 1988, Cryptopsy grew to become one of today's biggest leaders in today's technical death metal scene. Their singer, Lord Worm, is certainly one of the most notable aspects of the band, whose voice sounds almost strained, yet still powerful. Cryptopsy's music is very fast and aggressive, made stronger by their liberal use of time-changes and the intense drumming of Flo Mounier, who gives all of their songs a very prevalent percussive feel. This lineup released two albums, Blasphemy Made Flesh and their groundbreaking album None so Vile. After 1996, Lord Worm left the band for his own ambitions as a teacher, and was replaced by Mike DiSalvo. His vocal style was very different from that of his predecessor, taking on a more -core style. His first album as singer was Whisper Supremacy. While many people were turned off by this dramatic change, DiSalvo was indeed a very aggressive vocalist. After the release of the band's fourth album, And then You'll Beg... DiSalvo quit in 2001 to pursue a family life. After a brief stint with Martain Lacroix as vocals (who can be heard on the album None so Live), Lord Worm finally returned as lead singer on Cryptopsy's latest album, Once was Not. The band is now touring Europe to promote the album. The first Cryptopsy album I heard was And then You'll Beg, and I loved it, so I suppose I like DiSalvo a bit more than some other Cryptopsy fans... of course, I now prefer Lord Worm. Any other fans?

once was not was rubbish and flo mournier is overrated. J Read can do the same stuff twice as fast and just as technical and without the use of triggers live or in studio (does flo use triggers?). their first 2 albums are very good but their newer stuff is a lesson in cramming 50 albums worth of riffs into one album and it doesn't work. it doesn't flow. its completly unmemorable in everyway. the way that they stop the songs so they can have some short weird guitar bit before starting again also affects the flow and the structure. rubbish basically. technically proficient, yes. but no songwriting ability whatsoever.

Wow,as much as I knew of the band I had no idea they formed in the 80's,hehe.Anyways great band plus they are Canadian which makes us have another great band to be proud of. =) I bought their live album and I have to say it is one of the best live albums I heard,They still maintain their sound when playing live, there are a lot of bands I know that sound like shit live.My favorite Crytopsy songs are probably Phobophile and Crown of Worms.

tommy tee: well that is your opinion i know that if i feel like listening to something like that, i will know that 'Once Was Not' is always a good choice even if it isnt as memerable as a lot of things, that just makes it more interesting to listen to each time doesnt it - if you dont know it inside out?

If you guys want to her the true Cryptopsy "Blasphemy Made Flesh" is by far the best album IMO, with the classic Defenestration. Besides that album I dont really enjoy Cryptopsy that much. And can we please stop dissing drummers like Flo' and George they are much better than all of us so whos to talk, personally i think Flo' is a fantastic drummer.

My favorite is definitely None so Vile,,d last one(Once was not) lacks something. It needs more attention and accurancy.I have seen them once in Warszaw this year in january together with Aborted and Grave. It was a great pleasure for me to witness such a nasty perfomance delivered by Cryptopsy.\m/

I like them especially because of Flo's drumwork, but besides that nothing really captures me. They tend to bore me more than they amuse so I haven't listened to them in at least a few months. Most technical death metal bores me now, but i still enjoy Krisiun or Brutality every now and then.

A great band! It is quite possible that Flo is god. I have yet to speak to a theologian regarding this question. I found Mike DiSalvo much more tolerable than most other people did. His style is fairly hardcore-ish, true, but it is actually well done, and is quite consistent. Unlike Lord Worm, his vocals do not add another layer of mess to the already mind bogglingly complicated music. I think it allows the songwriting to stand out more. "cold hate warm blood" is perhaps my favourite song of theirs. On the other hand, the live album was completely ruined by the awful, awful vocals of Martin Lacroix. "Once Was Not" is my favourite album of theirs. The first time I heard it I was a bit put off by the dirtier sound of it, but I find that it doesn't actually get in the way, and that it is also the most complex album they have assembled to date.

They're great. I love None So Vile, my favourite album they've done. Once Was Not is a good attempt. Nothing bad but far from their best. You gotta love Flo's drumming. Perfectly suited for those growls. Hopefully I'll see them twice in the space of a week in August and I'm totally looking forward to it!

Wow, havnt posted here yet ... Well one of my favourite Death Metal bands I must say. Lord Worm is an excellent vocalist, his work on 'None So Vile' is my favourite of their discography and worth rating highly in my books. Just the whole extremely brutal feel of the album is just incrediable, one of my favourite Death Metal albums. Their other albums are really good... but 'None So Vile' stands out more to me.

Have 4 songs off of "None So Vile" now,"Dead And Dripping","Slit Your Guts","Crown Of Horns" and "Phobophile".No one seemed to mention "Dead and Dripping" the drums are killer and "Slit Your Guts" is definitley the greatest song on None So Vile,I love the quick bass solo it superb and the guitar solo is nice and melodic.I think its safe to say that Lord Worm has the most incomprehensible vocals ever,I mean I thought Isahn's and Chris Barnes are hard to understand, but his vocals fit the music.
