a simple question which just dawned on me.. of course i'll say Priest, Motorhead changed their sound a bit over the years, but there aren't really 2 albums which honestly don't sound like the same band, unlike the Metal Gods, take for example Rocka Rolla, Jugulator, Point of Entry and Painkiller. as for Motorhead of course Lemmy is a machine and could play a 10 hour concert or something..

but Priest had such a huge influence on metal subgenres, they've been in the game longer than Motorhead, and are basically the thrash metal prophets, with their heavy 70's songs (Exciter, Tyrant, Diamonds and Rust etc)

Priest it is! (what a surprise for people who know me lmao)

Arrrrggggg I always get worked up when people say DIamnds and Rust is a Judas Priest song, so once again.... Diamonds And Rust is a Joan Baez song which Priest covered.

wow, i didn't know Joan Baez plays real heavy stuff and had a huge influence on Thrash metal

come on... in the studio version there is precisely ZERO stuff other than the lyrics which Priest took. and you said you didn't care for lyrics most of the time so there you go

also, there's a really great bootleg "Live in Seattle" from 1977 or something with an even FASTER version than on "Unleashed".. awesome to the max.

All the notes to the song are the same as well, it is only played heavier. And Diamonds and Rust didn't have that much of an influence on thrash, actually most of the Judas Priest didn't really influence thrash that much somehow. Iron Maiden had a larger influence on thrash, as did the Deep Purple song Speed King.

no, you are WRONG. well i was wrong too lol, there are 2 things which Priest took:
1.the vocal melody
2.the main chord progression

btw I forgot to vote...

Now voted Priest, cause although Motorhead is nice at tiems they sufferfrom the AC/DC illness almost everything sounds the same and their peak was clearly with Ace Of SPades whereas Priest reinvented themselves a lot of times, sometimes that was horrendous (Turbo & Nostradamus) and at other times utterly brilliant (Painkiller, Sad Wings Of Destiny, Screaming For Vengeance)

It is true, not a lot of people know this. They did a heavy version of the song and now they do an acoustic version.

I just prefer their music... Both are such a big influence in metal. But I really like Lemmy. He is a level below to be GOD.

Yeah I'm not alone! Well, I think its no secret why I voted for Motorhead. As much as I hate to see Motorhead losing, being the underdog is Motorheads style from the start, so what would fit more?

It makes me want to reproduce at a rapid rate, force feed my children Motorhead, then make them sign up for this website. Unfortunately children are expensive.

Howso? Maybe if both bands came out yesterday then yes they would, but both bands helped shape metal to what it is today, so overrated, no.

I'm basing it in comparison to bands today. I can't stand the overglorification of music simply because it was influential.

Hmm, well I know most people prefer the older stuff from both these bands, no one hypes up their new stuff that much. When people say they love these bands I usually hear them mention Ace Of Spades or Painkiller, not Kiss Of Death and Nostradamus. Besides, have you seen either of these bands play live? They both put on a show worth talking about.

I actually saw them both a few days ago at the Metal Masters. Their shows were alright, but nothing terribly special. Of course they have a great stage presence, as they are huge bands and have been doing the live thing for years, but they were hard to get into.

Really, I went to the Metal Masters tour as well and it was possibly the best show I've ever seen. I've been to my fair share of concerts as well (sitting somewhere around 55 major touring bands at this point, not counting local underground type shows), thats including bands like Iron Maiden, Megadeth and such.

Well, I've only been to maybe 10, and that's stretching it a little bit. People just have different tastes, and because of that, we'll never be able to resolve this. Different strokes for different folks is all.
