"DAATH" are an American five-piece act who play a different sort of techdeath. They have two albums out, The Hinderers (2006) and Futility (2004). "Daath's music is an exploration of the negative sides of the human psyche. Using the Tree of Life as a roadmap, their albums will be systematically exploring the adverse side of the tree until they havedescribed all ten of its points, or sepherot. Each of these points represents a facet of our being. There is also a hidden point, Daath, which is the doorway to the adverse side of the tree as. When you go through the Daath point all the attributes of the sephirot are reversed. For example, Kether, which means crown represents the highest a man can go, when reversed, represents futility, the inability to progress. While the highest point is on one side quite a level to attain, on the other side it is a place from where you cannot go anywhere but down. With this in mind it is important to see 'Daath' not only as a doorway but as the primary device of reconcilliation between the two sides. There are 3 pillars on the Tree. There are the outer pillars which represent severity and mildness and the middle pillar which represents the interaction of the first two. That's why there is a balance of Daath's heavier music with their lighter music. However, the first album "Futility" does not focus in any one direction since there can be no true balance in the adverse tree. The philosophy to Daath's music is that in order to become whole as a human being, we need to come to terms with all sides of ourselves. In other words, in order to grow and realize our potential, we need to take a long honest look in the mirror and not be afraid to accept what we see. Daath's message is not one of negativity, but of honesty with one's self. The parts of ourselves that hinder us the most are often the hardest to realize." (taken from their soundclick page, where you can find 3 mp3s all from Futility I think). An mp3 to digest (Track 1 from The Hinderers): http://daath.swizcorp.com/audio/Ovum.mp3 Maybe if I pander to the collective taste of MS a little more, I'll get MORE RESPONSES ON MY FREAKING THREADS.

Dude, relax ok? Give us more than three hours. And it's good stuff. If I'd not be in a financial valley I'd try to get this from some place. I recommend this to readers, you'll like it. (So Nokkkie, gave you a little bit more promotion. )

hmm, the whole pillar deal sounds complicated. Unfortunately I can't download music while I'm at work or home so I'll look around the web to find a song that's streaming.

ok, I finally heard them and I like them a lot. I noticed that the drumming was especially good, so I looked at who it is and I found out that their drummer is Kevin Talley, who just so happens to be my favorite drummer.

They're ok... but a tad bit boring. There's really nothing technical about these guys though, it's just boring music.

I don't see how they are technical death metal either...they're straight ahead crunchy death/thrash metal and they sort of remind me of Arch Enemy...the vocalist sounds creepily like a male version of Angela Glassow's vocal tracks on Doomsday Machine if you take her vocals and this dude's vocals and put them side by side...oh yeah...a lot of Arch Enemy influences with this band...

Dood, the band is in Roadrunner Records so they suck! Sell-outs! The vocalist kind of reminds me of Dez Fafara (right?), the vocalist of now defunct Nu Metal band Coal Chamber and frontman of the band DevilDriver. I think they are good.

DevilDriver? I think i saw them live? oh well. Yeah, they are not that spectacular anymore after a while. Still some better-than-average music for me, though.

Well, I don't know how their old stuff is, but I think their new stuff is pretty good, even though I haven't heard much. I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that Kevin Tally is a new acquisition, but I could be wrong.

I have a friend who actually found this bands purevolume page about a year ago (?) and I loved it. I immediately went home and downloaded the two songs they have available. Good stuff.

@Xtreme Jax - Well, I'm still a little confused. Kevin Talley is listed as the band member, but in the booklet it says that other people recorded the drums. The album is only decent at best; I originally liked what I heard, but it was actually the old songs I listened to prior to buying The Hinderers.

One of the only listenable bands on Roadrunner at the moment in my opinion. Several months ago, my friend Chet was constantly telling me to listen to them, but I ignored his requests because he mostly listens to bands I don't like. Then, I went over to his house recently and Daath was playing on his computer, and have been a fan ever since. I think it's the industrial feel that they have that makes me like them so much. Can't wait for Ozzfest!!

I saw their "Subterfuge" clip on MTV, a few weeks ago, and I must say I was pretty impressed. They play a weird Industrial/Technical Death Metal kinda mix, but it's pretty good stuff. You should definitely check them out.

Sounds quite good. It seems to be more influenced by melodic death metal, at least it is quite easily digestable music and energetic, catchy. Although it is interesting that they attach some deeper meaning to their music to, instead of making some boring over-used themes. All in all seems quite good, but I wouldn't say I like it very much.
