Keep in mind guys. Spotify isn't "free" in the sense that you mean. The artist gets money from the number of streams for each song that gets played. Meaning, if you want to support the band you stream their music on Spotify. Just wanted to inform you.

Yes, but I also read somewhere that what the artists get from this is minimal. It should be more substantial.

So they're putting the entire album on spotify... like thousands of bands already do...I fail to see what's new and exciting about this.

Nothing, but we post news about bands streaming material on x or y platform, why wouldn't this be deserving of being published?

Yes you're absolutely right. They do make more from record sales of course. I'm just saying, that using Spotify as your sourse of metal is not always a worse thing than buying records. Especially if you're into a variety of bands and styles in metal. Many bands release records, but in very limited copies which makes them hard to get. With that in mind, Spotify is a great way of supporting your bands compared to illegal downloads.

Nothing against it but the title sugests its something different than it actually is

It's different in the sense that a metalband made an agreement with Spotify to pre-release songs one day at the time. And it's the first time that Ensiferum does it obviously. Also it's a high profiled band, which makes their actions interesting.

and how is that different? Metal bands oftenly full stream the full album entirely before the release and, no ofense, we're talking about bands way bigger than Ensiferum. They just don't do it in Spotify...which is a big letdown if you ask me because a) It's not available worldwide. b) The free version has a limited time. c) It has fucking annoying pub.

Good thing about this is that the band gets money from streaming songs. Hence why Spotify isn't free in the sense that you mean. I pay 10 euros / month for premium. Pretty fucking cheap considering the amount of music you get for that money. BUT, if you expect to get things for free, you're never gonna be happy.

It's free for you! That doesn't mean it's beneficial for the artist. There's 2 sides to a quarter.

It actually is benefitial to the artists, they receive a certain ammount after it hits X listens. I'm not sure it's more than Spotify but I would assume it is since there's way more underground on BC. Overall it's a better platform.

But that's not the subject here, The whole point of my post is this being "sold" as a new thing when it's just a band showcasing their album on a Streaming platform...quite common.

What do you think the purpose of this update is? To show off how cool spotify is OR to let the fans know that Ensiferum's new tracks are streamed via spotify?
